Jolene POV (김조린)

I am super excited today! At 10 AM this morning, a bus will come and pick me up for the “Youth Fall Camp” event in Noryangjin. I’ve been waiting for this event to come! And finally, now is d-day. Currently, I am now putting on some makeup to this flawless face of mine *uh huh* and yeah, just having fun waiting. My clock strikes at 9 AM. One hour to go. Oh yeah! I forgot to tell you guys about this Camp. Basically, it is an event held by the church I am currently attending right now. It is like a semi-bible camp for youths. You know, not to serious and heavy, and they just told us to have fun so I signed up for it.

My best friends, Yura and Keira, will be coming with me. They both are so gorgeous. Yura is that type of calm and soothing girl and she has a really “hunnyeo” vibe. You know, that ‘pretty girl without even trying’ in Instagram. While my Keira, is more like the easy going type. She’s the most loyal and caring person ever. Her hair is short but damn she’s tall. She’s 175cm. Girl, even my ex was shorter than her *uhhk*.

Then, I walk to the sofa and lie my body there. I turn on the TV, just basically watching whatever that’s there. Oh! I just saw my all-time favorite bias on Musiqbank. Choi Seung Hyun, the hottest man that only appeared in all our dreams. They were replaying BIGBANG’s hottest stage, and trust me, not only the stage that was hot, but my man T.O.P was damn hot >.<

My fangirling didn’t realize that the time’s already 9.58 AM. I heard a loud honk from outside my house. I quickly turn off the TV, grab my bags, kiss Robbie (my lovely dog), bid goodbye to my aunt, run outside, and hop on to the bus.

Inside the bus, my church youth mentor, Anna, welcomes me,

“Hello, Jo! Long time no see! Your hair’s getting longer already! I miss you. How have you been?” asked Anna,

“I am extremely fine, Anna. Like I told you last night, I was super excited about this Camp!”

“Ooh I’m glad! How’s your bible reading routine?” asked Anna,

“Good! I read it every day. Thanks for reminding me!”

“What a nice girl. Your friends are in the back, better catch up with them!” said Anna, and taps my shoulder. I smiled at her.

I joined my friends, Yura and Keira, in the back. We sat down together, side by side,

“You look pretty today! That MEC lipstick suits you” said Keira,

“Thanks! It was on SALE last week, sooo I snatched it!” said me,

“Okay okay, but girls, you need to listen to this ‘thing’ that I’m about to say” said Yura, with a sassy attitude,

“What?” asked Keira,

“Joon is coming! You’re ‘one-sided love slash crush’ is coming to the Camp, Jo!” exclaimed Yura,

*gasp* “Omygosh! Are you serious? I can’t believe this!” said me,

“Neither do I” said Keira,

“Yup, I lied guys, sorry WAHAHAHAHA” said Yura

My pinch landed into Yura’s arm. Like, seriously?! I was really happy about that but it turns out to be a lie, meh. We continue to chit-chat and the bus suddenly stops in front of a basketball court.

 

Author’s POV

A fine young man hops in to the bus. He’s brown sharp eyes scans the bus. His lips curved up a little. He’s wearing a Wrengler T-shirt with a black cargo trouser, emphasizing his muscular thighs. His brown Timbirland boots taps the bus as his walking goes. He makes his way to the back, and in no time, he’s already sitting beside Jolene. Jolene is too busy focusing on her phone, making her failed to notice that her ‘so-called crush’ is now sitting beside her. Yura and Keira are shocked right now. They keep on tapping Anna’s shoulder for her to notice what’s happening,

“Eish! My Mario died! What’s wrong with you guys?” said Jolene,

“t-that…” said Yura while pointing at Joon,

Jolene turns her head to the left, suddenly she jumps a little bit from her seat due to shocking. She can’t believe at what she’s seeing right now. Lee Joon, sitting in her left, smirking at her,

“Hey, long time no see. How are you?” asked Joon with that deep voice of him,

“G-good. I thought you’re not coming…” said Jolene, then she glared at Yura fiercely, making Yura feel small,

“My father told me to come. Besides, it’s holiday time” said Joon.

Then, a quiet yet awkward silence came in the picture. Jolene just let out the classic ‘Ooh…’ answer to him. He shrugged his shoulder, then he looks to the front. Jolene squeezes Keira’s hand tightly due to embarrassment. Suddenly, she remembers that ‘event’ with him.

*A month ago*

The campus field is filled with cheers and chants from the students. Today, the soccer cup finally reaches its final match. Jolene, Keira, and Yura whom are sitting in the bench cheer loudly for their campus team. Actually, Jolene didn’t understand soccer that much. But, she comes to watch and cheer for Lee Joon EVERY single match because he’s in the team. Jolene keeps smiling from ear to ear, imagining what’ll happen after the match. Yup, she planned something for Joon.

The match ends with 2-1 score, leaving the winning title to Joon’s team. Jolene makes her way down from the bench, approaching Joon. Joon didn’t notice her. He grabs a water bottle and pour it all to his head, making his shirt wet. He reaches for a towel and dried his hair briefly. Suddenly, Jolene’s already in front of him.

“Joon! Congratz for winning! I am proud of you” said Jolene shyly,

“Yeah, thanks. Jo, I can’t really stay here for long. I need to get going soon to meet my coach” said Joon, half-heartly,

“Oo, okay. I just need 5 minutes of your time…please?” beg Jolene,

For some split seconds, Joon thinks. Later he gave her a mini shrug of approvement (plus that handsome smile),

“Joon… there is something that I wanna tell you…” said Jolene shyly.

Suddenly, a few people came and surrounded them both, including Keira and Yura. They all held a white rose in their hands. From the speaker of the field, Lee Hi – I Love You was being played. Upon seeing this situation, Joon’s expression changed. The look of confused and unamused filled his face. He can sense that Jolene planned this before. In front of him, there stood Jolene whom now is covering her red face with her left hand and her right hand offering him the white rose. Joon’s eyes sharpened,

“What’s all of this?” said Joon, accepting the rose,

“I prepared this for you. Hey, I think you’re really cool… I like you a lot… maybe we can go out or something?” asked Jolene,

The whole crowd let out the biggest ‘Aawwh’ at them. Joon’s team mate kept whistling and giggling at them. Joon took a really deep breath. He puts down the rose on the ground, and he says,

“Listen. You’re cute and nice. I’ve known you for a long time. But, I like you as a little sister. I really have to go now. I’m sorry. I’ll chat you later” said Joon.

Then he storms out from the field, leaving Jolene alone with the embarrassment. His friends looked at her with an apologetic expression, and then followed Joon. Jolene was taken aback. Her mind stopped working for a minute or two until her friends dragged her out from the field. Her lovely heart was crushed, hard.

Author’s POV

The whole bus ride was awkward for Jolene. Joon chooses to sleep, not aware of Jolene’s feeling. Jolene keeps sighing through the ride. About 45 minutes later, the buss arrives at the Youth Camp. Jolene wakes Joon up, and with the speed of light; she drags Yura and Keira out from the bus. Gosh! She’s still embarrassed!
