Yiqi wasn’t sure when it started. It all happened so fast, yet time seemed to slow down whenever she was with her. 

Mengyao.

Yiqi pet their cat as she watched Mengyao nap away. She wondered if the other girl felt the same.

They did everything together. The others would tease them constantly about being a couple. Did they really seem like one?

Mengyao shifted, her hand moving towards the cat in between them. “Why are you staring at me?”

“Huh, what?” Yiqi acted dumb, a blush forming on her face as she chuckled nervously. 

“Nevermind.”

Mengyao lazily got up and propped herself up next to Yiqi on their shared bed. “We should go practice our next stage.”

Yiqi scurried off the stage before Mengyao could grab her. Their performance didn’t go as planned, and it left Mengyao confused. 

The performance required them to have their faces really close together for a long time. But this was normal for them, even off stage.

She didn’t see Yiqi again until that night, back in their room. 

“Want to tell me what’s up? You’ve been acting weird today, you know.” Mengyao questioned the back of Yiqi, who was sitting at the desk, absentmindedly clicking away at her game. 

“Huh?” Yiqi acted dumb again, hoping Mengyao would drop it like she always does. 

But she didn’t. 

“Don’t give me that, Yiqi. I know you know what I’m talking about.” 

Yiqi paused her game and swiveled around to face the other girl. 

“Know what?”

Mengyao huffed in frustration. “Drop the act and just tell me what’s wrong.”

Yiqi stared down at her hands, fidgeting nervously as she thought about her next words.

“It’s nothing that matters.”

Mengyao frowned as she came closer and crouched down to level with Yiqi sitting on her chair. 

She grabbed Yiqi’s hands. “You can tell me anything, you know.”

Yiqi sighed as she got up, dropping Mengyao’s hands. “Not this, I can’t.” She muttered as she walked out of the room.

Yiqi clenched her jaw as she watched another member fool around with Mengyao on stage.

She felt really stupid. One, because she couldn’t find the courage to finally confess. And two, because she felt jealous seeing Mengyao with someone else.

Mengyao isn’t even hers.

A few days have passed since Yiqi walked out on Mengyao. Mengyao won’t look at her, or speak to her unless they had to on stage. 

She really messed up. She should’ve told Mengyao the truth.

That she was in love with her.

Yiqi hated to admit it. That she was foolish enough to fall for her best friend, her roommate at that.

Before they knew it, two weeks of no talking had passed. Yiqi was in and out of their room whenever she knew Mengyao wasn’t around or at practice.

She missed her. 

It was around midnight when Yiqi decided to go out and skate around for a bit. She was restless. And it didn’t help that she hasn’t been able to sleep in her own bed. With Mengyao.

Next thing she knew, a rock stunted her board and she was out cold.

Yiqi woke up in a dimly lit, but familiar room. It was her room. The realization sunk in and she sat up quickly, holding her head at the sudden pain coursing through her.

“You idiot, what were you doing out so late?!” Mengyao whisper shouted from across the room as she heard Yiqi shuffling on the bed. 

“Who found me?” 

“I did, you moron. I heard you riding your board outside and went to call you back inside, but I found you on the ground.”

Yiqi smiled nervously as she scratched the back of her neck. “You carried me back inside?”

Mengyao rolled her eyes as she got up from the desk to sit next to Yiqi on their bed. She tucked a piece of hair behind Yiqi’s ear. 

“Stay. I hate this, us not talking to each other.”

Yiqi fiddled with her fingers. She really did miss Mengyao. And their bed. 

“Fine.”

“On one condition.” Yiqi’s ears perked up at that. “You tell me what’s been bothering you.”

Yiqi’s mouth gaped at the other girl. “You really wouldn’t let me stay in MY room if I didn’t tell you?” 

Mengyao crossed her arms, shrugging as she waited expectantly. 

“You want the truth, Mengyao?” The girl in question nodded.

It was now or never.

Yiqi swallowed the lump in . The lump that’s been forming for as long as she realized her feelings. 

She locked eyes with Mengyao as she said her next words.

“I’m in love with you.”

It was silent for a second, before Mengyao burst into a fit of giggles.

“That’s it?” Yiqi gave her an incredulous look. 

“Y-Yes?”

“Want to know something funny?” Yiqi nodded mindlessly in response. 

“I’m in love with you too!”

“Y-You are?”

Mengyao sighed as she grabbed Yiqi’s hands. “Was it not obvious enough? I’m sorry you had to worry over this.”

Yiqi took in a deep breath before she leaned in quickly, pausing inches away from Mengyao. 

“I don’t care, just kiss me.”

Mengyao grinned as she closed the distance between them, holding back her laughter at how eager Yiqi was, the both of them smiling into the kiss. 

They pulled apart and Yiqi immediately flopped back onto their bed, in pure bliss over what just happened. Mengyao loved her back. 

She smiled a toothy grin. “I missed this bed!” Mengyao whacked a pillow at Yiqi. 

“I guess I missed you too, Mengyao.”
