Second Chance

“YURI! YURI-YAH! YAH! KWON YURI!” Yuri turned around and smiled when she saw the source of the loud voice. It was none other than her bestfriend Choi Sooyoung the same Choi Sooyoung who happened to be the member of Korea’s former # 1 girl group; Girls Generation.

Yuri waved and immediately walked towards the tall girl. She enveloped Sooyoung in a tight hug before laughing with her.

“It’s always so good to see you Choi!” Yuri grinned widely

“Same here Kwon same here!” Sooyoung answered patting her in the shoulder

Sooyoung was driving when she suddenly handed her mobile phone to Yuri. Yuri was confused she just looked at the phone then to Sooyoung. The tall girl laughed realizing Yuri didn’t really get what she was implying.

“Phone Kwon!” Sooyoung insisted on Yuri taking the phone

“Choi Sooyoung I know what that is.” Yuri rolled her eyes “What am I going to do with that phone?”

Sooyoung wiggled her brows. “Aren’t you going to contact her? It’s been what Yul? 9 years already.” she even winked at the tanned girl

“You are crazy Choi.” Yuri laughed shaking her head

“What? You were friends! Ahhh don’t act like it was all nothing to you Kwon. Don’t tell you still haven’t moved on?” Sooyoung looked at her with disbelief

“YAH! Focus on the road Sooyoung.”

Yuri laughed silently as she turned her head to look outside the car’s window. It’s been 9 years already since Jessica’s departure from the group. They didn’t have the chance to talk things out properly and Yuri regretted that.

“I haven’t heard from her. How is she by the way?” she asked Sooyoung

“Aish! You idiot! Everyone started contacting her after Sunkyu’s wedding—“

“Which I did not have the chance to attend remember?” Yuri butted

“Oh yeah!” Soo nodded “What’s with the around the world by yourself though? You could’ve invited us.” She teased

“I just needed to you know? Have time with myself Soo.” Yuri said smiling

“4 years Kwon? Did you even try contacting her? You two had the deepest history Yuri. She went back to the US though uhmmm did you know that?”

--flashback--

5 days after Sunny’s wedding (4 years ago)

“Yuri? wha..what are you doing here?” Jessica was surprised to see Yuri outside her hotel room. She just got home from meeting up with some of her old friends before her flight back to the US tomorrow. She was obviously surprised to see the tanned girl in front of her since she didn’t have any idea that Yuri is in Korea.

“Hey Sica.” Yuri gave her a crooked smile

“Let’s go inside.” Jessica opened the door widely and let Yuri in

Jessica was on the kitchen preparing for something to drink as Yuri settled herself on the living room. This was the first time that they met again after 930 and Yuri was being nervous as hell.

Was Jessica still mad? Does she hate Yuri? What does she do? Is this okay? Were some questions that bottled up on Yuri’s mind.

“Hey Yul.” Jessica broke her train of thoughts when she arrived holding a tray with a cup of coffee.

Yuri smiled as she takes the cup. “Thank you Sica.”

It was all silence and Yuri swore she could’ve died because of the awkwardness that was surrounding them.

“Heard you attended Sunny’s wedding” Yuri awkwardly started “How was it?”

“Yuri.” Jessica looked at her “What are you doing here?”

Yuri sighed she realized that there was no time to waste and she needed to tell Jessica how sorry she was for all the things that happened in the past. And how she badly regretted doing what she could’ve done but she didn’t.

“I just wanna say I’m sorry for all the things that I did to hurt you.” Yuri hanged her head low “I was a coward Jessica I am sorry.”

“Yuri…”

“I didn’t do anything to protect you when I could have. I was selfish Sica I only think of what’s the best for me.” Yuri finally looked at her with sad eyes “I should’ve stood up for you when you needed me the most but I chose not to. I..I played safe for myself.”

Yuri was tearing up now. “I am really sorry Jessica I.. I’m sorry.”

“I’m not blaming you Yuri.. you were just thinking what’s best for you and I understand that.” She smiled as she caressed Yuri’s hand that was now trembling “Let’s all forget that Yul.” She wiped the tears that was falling on Yuri’s cheek “I forgive you and I am also at fault Yuri.”

But I love you Jessica and I was so sorry.

After their heartwarming talk Jessica lighten up the mood by playing SNSD songs from her phone. It made Yuri laugh since she didn’t thought that the latter would still keep songs of them.

“You listen to that every day?” Yuri teased

“NO! I only downloaded this since no one was listening to it.” Jessica joked

Yuri smiled but then felt a pang of guilt when she saw Jessica’s smiles. She remembered how the latter cried so much when the news of her removal from the group was announced. If Yuri could only turn back time she would’ve done what was right for her.

If only she didn’t let jealousy cloud her judgment then maybe she could’ve save Jessica.

If only Jessica told her what was really going on with her and Tyler Kwon then maybe she could’ve understood. Or could she?

Because Yuri felt like a fool when Jessica said that there was nothing going on between her and the guy but everyone around them says otherwise. Maybe she didn’t trust Jessica? Or maybe she was so blinded by what people were saying.

Why did she even listen to them when it’s Jessica’s answer that she should’ve listened to.

“Jess!” Yuri called

“Yeah?”

“Can I ask you a question?” Yuri timidly asked

“Sure what’s that?”

“About you and Tyler oppa? Is he really? Are you two?”

Because after all those years Yuri thought that maybe Jessica finally realized that she wasn’t the one. She can’t even do the right thing for the person she once loved.

“He helped me through a lot Yul.” Jessica answered as she looked away “He’s really a nice guy.” Yuri felt a stab in her heart when Jessica said that.

Even though how hard Yuri denied it she still has feelings for the latter. She really loved Jessica but she was too afraid. Yuri heaved a sigh before looking Jessica in the eyes.

“If you’re really happy with him then I’m happy as well.” Yuri smiled

It was so hard to tell the person you love that you’re happy for them when in reality you’re dying in the inside. What more when you’re giving them up to other people.

“Yul..”

“Sorry am I being too dramatic can I have more of this coffee?” Yuri changed the topic as she doesn’t want to talk about Jessica’s personal life anymore.

They talked for a while until Yuri realized that it was already getting late so she decided to go home. Jessica even walked Yuri to her door.

“Sica?” Yuri called making Jessica stopped in her tracks

“Yul?”

“Sorry.” Yuri suddenly hugged the latter surprising her

“Yuri..”

“I am really sorry. For all the things I’ve done to hurt you. For my mistakes. ” Jessica softly patted her back comforting her “If…we meet again..Sica..and you’re not in this kind of situation..would..you..” Yuri asked with her croaked voice “Can you give me..a second chance?.. cause Sooyeon.. it’s still you.. I still love you.” Yuri pulled away from the hug and looked at Jessica in the eye “I’m still inlove with you.”

Jessica’s phone suddenly started ringing breaking the duo’s eye contact. Yuri scratched her nape as she watched Jessica answered her phone.

“Oppa.” Jessica said “Yeah I’m here..yes I’ll call you tomorrow.” Yuri smiled bitterly as she listened to their conversation. Jessica glanced at Yuri apologetically before hanging up her phone.

“I guess I’ll go ahead.” Yuri stated “Bye Sica.” Yuri started walking trying hard to suppress the tears that were threatening to fall from her eyes.

“It’s my flight tomorrow Yuri I’ll be back on the States.” Jessica mumbled “Maybe for good.” Yuri gave her a crooked smile that Jessica used to love

“Take care Sica.”

“Yul..” Yuri stopped walking then she merely looked back “Be safe.” She just smiled before walking away from Jessica.

“I wish it was me Sica.. if only.” She mumbled to herself.

So it’s not true that Yuri didn’t know about Jessica’s flight to the United States she was actually there before the night of the flight. Yuri just decided not to come on that day because she can’t do anything to stop Jessica and that she’s too late. Jessica’s flight was also Yuri’s reason she started to travel around the world so she can find herself. Yuri thought it was the best idea to forget all the things that happened in Korea.

“Kwon I’ll be here at 6pm okay?” Sooyoung said when they finished carrying up Yuri’s bag to the tanned girl’s apartment.

“Okay Soo you said that for the 10th time already.”

“Of course so you won’t forget.” Sooyoung grinned

“Where are we going again?” Yuri asked slumping down on the sofa

“Our house.”

“Oh how’s Kyungho by the way? Any plans on making little Sooyoung and little Kyungho huh?” Yuri joked wiggling her brows

“Idiot!” she smacked Yuri’s shoulder before joining her friend on the sofa “We’re planning though.” Soo grinned

“Make me a godmother then!”

“Of course!”

The duo laughed at their silliness but was soon ended by the abrupt ringing of Sooyoung’s phone. She excused herself before answering it. It was rather short and Sooyoung immediately came back.

“Kyungho?” Yuri asked with a smile

“Yeah.”

“Already looking for you huh?”

“You know him.” Soo chuckled

“Send my regards to him and tell him he’ll see me later.” Yuri winked

“What are you Kwon? The Prime Minister?”

“HAHAHAHAHA anyways who are going later?”

“Of course our friends who else?” Soo wiggled her brows “Who are you expecting and it’s a welcome party for you too.”

“Hmmm yeah okay.”

“And don’t worry Jessica said she’ll try her best.” Sooyoung teased giving Yuri a weird look

“Seriously Choi Sooyoung are we still having this childish teasings? We’re too old for this.” the tanned girl shook her head.

“Wae? Are you still affected? Still have those feelings for her?”

“Idiot! Go home! Your husband is waiting for you.” Yuri laughed

“Changing the topic huh nice Kwon still hiding something.”

“Ah Choi whatever you say! I’ll rest now GO!”

Sooyoung gave Yuri the I am watching you look before she made her way out of her friend’s apartment. Yuri laughed loudly as she shouted her thanks for the taller girl.

“Sure! Bye Kwon!”

After sleeping for some hours Yuri took a bath and checked her phone, there were messages from her friends. Everyone was welcoming her back and was telling her how excited they are to see her.

“I do miss this a lot.” Yuri said to herself as she saw the portrait of their group hanging on her wall. She smiled widely recalling the time they were still complete, oh how Yuri would do anything to feel that again. The chaos, the fun, the laughter, her eight sisters that she shared the world with – Her smile never faltered as her eyes darted to one particular member.

“How are you Jess?”

After Sooyoung fetched her and they arrived at the latter’s house, Yuri was happily greeted by her other members. They were all complete, Tiffany rushed to give Yuri a hug and peppered her face with kisses. The others followed namely Taeng, Sunny, Yoona, Seohyun, and Hyoyeon.

“God I miss this!” Sooyoung shouted as she joined their group hug.

After the hug they all settled in the living room, they started catching up with one another. Yuri who toured the world by herself had lots of stories for her friends. She shared how meeting different people helped her in finding herself. That travel she did really helped her in knowing what she really wants for herself. They teased Yuri that she should’ve looked for a girlfriend while abroad which the latter just laughed off.

If only it was that easy --

The others started sharing all the things that happened while Yuri was gone. She found out that Taeyeon’s shares in SM increased by 10% and that she’s close to having a chair in the board. Tiffany is doing well with her solo career and is travelling back and forth to Korea for Taeyeon. Yuri even teased them when will they finally do the wedding since they’re complete. Yoona is having a fantastic career as an actress and is happy with her relationship with a certain younger Jung. Sunny does DJ-ing and singing gigs if she likes the offer, she’s busy being a family woman at the moment. Seohyun was doing good both as an actress and singer, she’s also done a lot for the government that her unnies even that she’s really going for the President title. Hyoyeon is successfully DJ-ing in big events, her dance academy is also doing well. Sooyoung is happily married too with a great career. Even though they’ve all pursue solo careers they were still all excelling in their respective fields.

“Dinner is ready! Let us eat and do karaoke later!” Sooyoung announced.

While everyone was busy doing karaoke in the living room someone ringed the doorbell. Everyone was busy doing something and Yuri was the closest to the door so she placed her plate down and said she’ll be the one to get it.

“Alright thanks Yul!” Tiffany said on the mic as she finished placing her song. Yuri gave a thumbs up.

Surprise was an understatement when Yuri opened the door and saw the person standing behind it.

“Yul.”

“Sica.”

Yuri blinked just to make sure she was seeing it right. Her heart started beating so fast she was afraid it’ll jump out of her chest. After all those years she’s finally here in front of Yuri smiling so brightly. She didn’t even change or aged a bit. She still looks beautiful as ever and Yuri can’t help the butterflies in her stomach.

“Are you going to let me in Yuri?” Jessica asked with a smile on her face.

“I’m so sorry! Come inside!” Yuri stepped aside and let Jessica in.

When Jessica got inside and everyone in the living room saw her they all greeted her. They hugged and Yuri can’t help the smile on her face looking at her friends being complete like this again. It was a sight to behold.

“Yuri! Why don’t you assist Jess in the dining room! Then you two join us here!”

“Huh?”

“Jess! Get something to eat first! Yuri will help you!” Tiffany said with a mischievous smile. Jessica just laughed but followed Yuri in the kitchen.

Maybe it was old habits but it was who Yuri prepared the food for Jessica. Yuri saw from her peripheral vision that Jess was smiling while watching her. Yuri slightly felt conscious so she fastened her moves and gave Jess her plate. She settled on the seat in front of Jessica and pretended to be playing her hands.

“Are you really just gonna watch while I eat here?” Jessica whined “That’s not fair Yul.”

“I just finished eating Sica.” Yuri answered with a smile. Jessica’s whining voice is so cute for her ears.

“Pfft fine.” Jessica started eating while Yuri chuckled at her

When Jessica finished eating she asked Yuri to go outside first to get some air. Yuri followed and they went to the garden. Jess sat on the bench first and then patted the space next to her for Yuri.

“The sky is really beautiful tonight.” Jessica said while staring at the sky above her. The moon and the stars made the sky shine bright.

“Indeed.” Yuri answered while looking at Jessica “So beautiful.”

Jess turned and caught Yuri staring at her, Yuri immediately looked away blush covering her cheeks. It made Jessica laugh. They were covered in that comfortable silence after until Jess reached for Yuri’s hand.

“Yul I missed you.” Her admission made Yuri look at her. “I miss you so much.”

Yuri didn’t know what got into her but she hugged Jessica, it was so tight as if she didn’t want to let Jessica go. Jessica reciprocated the hug as she tears up. Oh how badly she missed the warmth of this girl infront of her.

“You don’t know how much I wanted to do this Sica.” Yuri cried.

It lasted for minutes; their hug, until Yuri broke it off. She wiped her tears and gave Jessica a smile.

Even after all those years, no matter how many men or women I meet Jessica was still different. The feelings she has for Jessica was different. Yuri tried so hard to convince herself that it was okay but she needed to get things off her chest. Maybe, just maybe fate is on her side now.

“Sica one question.” She gently touched Jessica’s cheek “Are you happy?”

Jessica didn’t answer. One, two, three seconds passed but it was all silence. Yuri was about to open again when she felt something damp touched her lips. Her eyes widen when she realized what just happened. Jessica kissed her on the lips. When she finally registered what happened she slowly closed her eyes and cupped Jessica’s cheeks with her palms as if pulling her closer to her.

When they finished kissing they pulled away to look at each other. Jessica was crying and that made Yuri hugged her once again.

“Hey Jess.”

Jessica pulled away from the hug to smile at Yuri. This made Yuri confused since she was just crying a moment ago.

“Now I’m happy.” Jessica said “Because you’re here with me. Yuri don’t leave me again.”

Yuri wasn’t able to process what just happened she just stared blankly at Jessica. “YAH! Is your offer still up? You said that if we meet again right?“

“Wha.. what about him?”

“I tried Yuri! It wasn’t just 1 or 2 or 3 years… but you can’t really teach this.” She pointed at her chest “The heart wants what it wants Yul. And my heart wants you.” She cried “I’m so sorry I took this long Yul. I badly wanted to be with you but I was afraid that you won’t accept me.” Yuri wiped her tears away as she smiled at her. “God I am still inlove with you after all the things that happened.”

“I love you too Jessica.” Yuri kissed her forehead “And I know this won’t be an easy path but I promise you that we will get through it while holding each other’s hand. I will do everything just to make you happy Sica.”

“Yul…” She hugged Yuri close

They stayed in each other’s embrace feeling each other’s hearbeat. Jessica pulled away to look into Yuri’s eyes. Yuri leaned in for a kiss which Jessica gladly accepted. She placed her arms around Yuri’s neck while Yuri pulled her on the waist. Their kiss was passionate and full of emotions. It was like conveying all the things that they can’t say with words with action. They only pulled away when oxygen was necessary, Jess placed her forehead with Yuri’s as she pecked her lips.

“EHM.” Sooyoung faked a cough making Jess and Yuri pull apart.

“Ah that.. that was..” Yuri scratched her nape as she stuttered

“No need for explanations. We’re just happy you two sorted things out.” Taeyeon smiled looking at the both of them

“Finally when is the wedding?” Yoona favourite unnies

“We’ve always knew you two were soulmates.” Hyoeyeon added fake wiping a tear

“Oh how long we waited for this to happen unnies.” Seohyun said happily

“I’m glad that you finally realized that you two are each other’s true love.” Sunny said smiling

“I can’t wait for the wedding JESSI!” Tiffany squealed

Everyone laughed then Yuri pulled Jess close to her. She whispered something in her ear which made Jess punched her stomach.

“KWON IDIOT.” Jess mumbled

“What? Don’t you want to get married?” She grinned

“Alright we’ll leave the two of you first.” Sooyoung announced as they went back inside.

Yuri reached for Jessica’s hand and kissed it. “I know you’re the only girl I’ll love in this lifetime Jessica. I promise to do anything for you to keep you happy and loved.”

“Yuri I love you too. You alone love is enough for me to be happy.”

They both smiled at each other knowing that they finally got what their hearts desired.
