Chapter 5

It was one of those situations, when one’s natural instincts took over and where your body moved faster than your brain. It didn’t hit Baekhyun until his thumb tapped on the phone’s screen and the name flashed again before his eyes. The small action had caught both parties off guard. There was a drawn-out silence on the other line, and Baekhyun waited, his lips thinned, unwilling to greet his old friend.   "I didn't think you will pick up." The person finally said, upon realizing that Baekhyun wasn't going to say any other word.   Jongdae knew Baekhyun well like that.   He didn't think he would pick up either. But here he was, holding up the phone to his ears. Sometimes Baekhyun act before his mind could process those actions.   "What do you want?" Baekhyun found himself replying, though not exactly kindly.   "Are you back in Port Town?"   Baekhyun froze at those words. He never thought he was very predictable, or then again, this was the person who was closest to him in the last ten years. Coming back to Port Town, was an instinctive response as well, one in which he wasn’t quite done processing the reasons behind the decision.   "Yes."   "Can I meet you? At the usual spot. I am reaching in an hour."   They had a usual spot. The burger place near their high school. They used to spend quite a bit of time there. It used to be the five of them. Many times, it was just Jongdae and Baekhyun, making a fool of themselves, laughing at their own jokes, checking out the girls who walked into the shop. It was a place with so much memories, yet Baekhyun had not gone back to it since graduation. In fact, Baekhyun had no idea if the shop was still opened for business after all these years, but then again, Port Town never did change. They did though, Baekhyun and Jongdae.   "…and Baekhyun?"   "What?"   "I just… See you then."   "Whatever, Jongdae."     He didn't try very hard to be early, nor was he even on time. Baekhyun reasoned he didn't want to spend much time in the town center (not that he was avoiding anything, Baekhyun just didn't want to waste his time). On his way, Baekhyun was still thinking about the words he ought to say. But the truth was, he said everything he had to say already during their last encounter.   There was a lot of swearing involved.   Why did he agree to this meeting then?   Jongdae was already there. Baekhyun didn't need to look to find the man. The burger place was identical to what it was when Baekhyun was a student as if time had frozen over Port Town during their absence. The only difference was where there used to be a confident sixteen-year-old boy lounging casually in the back booth, who greet him with a lazy smirk as his bangs fall across his face, there was a solemn man in a navy blazer, with his hair combed up, staring grimly at his coffee. This man didn't greet Baekhyun, but he knew Jongdae saw him.   Silently, Baekhyun took his seat, across the man who he used to be best friends with. It was Jongdae’s fault. It was Jongdae who betrayed him. It was Jongdae who walked out of their argument. Jongdae loved going against Baekhyun, didn’t he? He stayed silent when Baekhyun demanded answers. He chose to seek Baekhyun out when he was quite done with this backstabber.   "You dressed up for a trip home," Baekhyun muttered as Jongdae looked up in acknowledgement.   "I am not staying. I got a meeting first thing in the morning." Jongdae answered, the strain from the long drive home evident in his voice.   Baekhyun glanced at his own gray sweatshirt and said nothing in response. Jongdae blinked, a little unused to seeing Baekhyun dressed so causally in the daylight. He used to be the one always due for yet another meeting. Baekhyun had not quite gotten used to his freed-up schedule.   "How did you know to find me here?"   "I know you better than you know yourself, Baek."   Baekhyun only stared in response. It was weird for them to be in this situation. As though he was couldn’t deal with the tension as well, Jongdae glanced away from Baekhyun, choosing to take in their surroundings carefully.   "I didn't think you will pick up if you weren't back here. There's just something about Port Town." Jongdae trailed off.   Baekhyun supposed he wasn't the only one reflecting on their past friendship in the last two days. It started right here, in Port Town. Was this the place to end it as well? Did they finally come full circle?   "I supposed you came to get the key to the apartment?" Baekhyun asked.   Jongdae let out a dry laugh. "You aren't the only one who knows the number of the locksmith. Although I have to say, that was unexpected. You realize that apartment is as much mine as it is yours. To think of changing the pincode…"   Baekhyun didn't respond. He wasn't sorry.   "Let’s sell the apartment. I know you can afford to just buy off my half but I doubt you would want to stay there for long. Since you will be looking for a job and what not, maybe it isn’t the best time to be looking for a new place. I will move out, and you can have it until you got yourself settled into a new job. We can sell that apartment then." Jongdae said, clearly having already thought it through.   "That's kind of you. So where are you moving to? Sooyoung's?" Baekhyun answered, making no attempt to keep the sarcasm out of his voice. So, this was the motive of Jongdae’s visit, he wanted to get rid of the apartment that they shared. The both of them get gotten so used to living together. Despite the fact that they both could long afford their own place, they had agreed to stay as housemates. Baekhyun had not been thinking about the apartment at all since he left.   Baekhyun didn’t want it. All he could remember of that place, was the horribly cold emptiness as he collapsed in the living room. All he could remember, was the replaying the scenes of the day in his head, letting his emotions eat him from inside out, as he waited for his friend to return.   Two boxes of his belongings sat beside him. One from the office, one from Sooyoung’s place.   Baekhyun had lost it all in one day.   When Jongdae finally returned, Baekhyun was furious. And he took it out the person he thought was his friend.   If it wasn’t for Jongdae, Sooyoung wouldn’t have left him. If it wasn’t for Sooyoung, Junmyeon wouldn’t have requested that Baekhyun be transferred to their overseas branch with that lousy explanation about needing his help to help the company grow regionally. They were getting rid of him. He was so close to being promoted to manager. So close. And he wasn’t staying around to let them do whatever they want from him. All the pain that Sooyoung had inflicted on him, Baekhyun chose to channel it into anger at Jongdae.   Baekhyun was pissed, and he was rightfully so.   He told Jongdae about what he felt. Well, mostly yelled. While Jongdae remained expressionless about Sooyoung’s breakup, a flicker of surprise escaped him regarding Baekhyun’s resignation. And then, there was an emotion which Baekhyun hated so much.   Pity.   Jongdae pitied him.   Baekhyun never wanted anybody’s pity. The fact that it was Jongdae, made everything so much worse.   “I want to help you.” Jongdae said softly.   “I am not going to help you ease your guilt.” Baekhyun shot back. He may have lost his job, but he needed no charity, especially not from Kim Jongdae.   “Guilty? I didn’t come look for you because I am guilty, Baekhyun.” Jongdae replied. “Truth is… I don’t even know why. But if it ain’t clear to you yet. I am not sorry.   I don’t like it. I don’t like seeing how it all went down. But I won’t apologize.”   Baekhyun wasn’t even surprise anymore. “Why are you here, Jongdae? I wasn’t expecting much of an apology, but if you have come to mock me, then I truly have to say you are exceeding expectations as a ty friend.”   "I'm tired of being your friend." Jongdae muttered, his eyes staring everywhere but at Baekhyun. "Sooyoung didn't think I should even look for you. But I can’t leave things as they were when we last met. We need to talk, Baekhyun.”   "Ooh. Is this your turn to break up with me?"   "Don't be an , Baekhyun." Jongdae snapped. "You know you have as much fault in this. I let you take your anger out on me the last time we met. But you know very well I did no wrong. I really do care about Sooyou

Chapter 5: We know in the first place, Baekhyun approach sooyoung because 'she is perfect'. That's a bad side of baekhyun, being the man full of ambition. I understand why 'baekhyun only accept perfection', his past life full of scars and he got hurt so much and he just want to have a better life, but the sad thing is... that ambition to be perfect is too much. And I'm trying so hard to not pity him, I don't want baekhyun hate me because of that, okay. I keep wondering if baekhyun really love sooyoung sincerely but I realise that's not important right now. It's suprised me that I didn't blame jongdae and hate him. I want to know what baekhyun would do after this, because I try to imagine my life if I in baekhyun position, but all I feel is just emptiness. I don't know what to do after this hahaha my head hurt so I'll stop thinking and just wait for next chapter :)

Despite what jongdae think, I think baekhyun loved her in his own way and yet he didnt know how to show it because of the way he grew up. There’s no way luke is hoing to turn out to be jongdae and jisoo’s son that happened when he came back, no is it? JUST A CRAZY THEORY THROWN.

And I still think the mother of Lucas is Eunmi and no idea who the father is tho...

And Jongdae choosing the hoe before the bro seems wrong .. I think he did that to see Sooyoungs royalty to Baek .. or maybe he is a bad friend but my Chen Chen is too nice to be a bad person :/ he’s all flowers and sunshine ❤️

Chapter 4: As I was finished reading this, Day6 You Were Beautiful was playing.

I'd like to read how this story unfolds more. But I'll say this: isn't it just healing to look towards children when the world can be just too cruel and dark for us? They have a way of reminding us of what we had probably lost along the way
