My Childhood Friends

Letters From Me to You

Everyone -- well more like Byeol and her mom-- was preparing food for Jungkook and his family's arrival back at Korea.

It had been seven years since they last saw each other. This was a big moment for Byeol. She was nervous about seeing Jungkook after such a long time. Especially since she has feelings for him. She had realized her feelings for him at the age of ten. She had fallen in love. Well what does a ten year old know about love anyways?

*flashback*

"Byeol! Be careful! You could get hurt!" Her mother shouted running outside.

Byeol was climbing a tree because she was trying to grab the kite that was stuck in between the branches. She was always good at climbing trees, she had never fell off before so she wasn't worried. Her mother on the other hand never trusted her climbing a tree because it was... Well dangerous.

"Just a little bit more." Byeol stretched out her hand to reach for the kite. And after a few minutes of struggling she finally got it.

"Yes." She cheered.

Her mother sighed in relief.

"Good now slowly climb down." Her mother instructed.

"Okay!" Byeol began to slowly stand up so she could walk off the big branch and climb down. As she began to walk she slipped.

"Byeol!" Her mother screamed.

Byeol shut her eyes in fear and waited for the huge impact she would make on the ground except she felt something different.

"Owww..." She heard a voice and slowly opened her eyes and saw that she had landed on top of Jungkook.

"Are you ok?" Jungkook asked her.

"Y-yeah. Are you ok? You didn't break anything did you?" Byeol asked.

"I'm fine. Besides you're really light so I didn't feel a single thing." He smiled at her. Obviously he was lying because he ended up twisting his ankle. But in that moment Byeol could not take her eyes off of Jungkook. Her eyes were glued onto him and she couldn't bring herself to look away. She felt something that she hadn't felt before. Her heart began to race and her face felt hot.

"Are you ok Byeol?" Jungkook asked, breaking Byeol out of her trance.

"Y-yeah. Sorry I'll get off of you now." Byeol stood up and ran inside the house leaving Jungkook confused.

*End Flashback*

"Byeol are you done chopping the onions?" Her mother asked.

"Yeah I'm done, what else do you need me to do?" Byeol said, setting aside the chopped onions into a bowl.

"Nothing. I can finish the rest. You should go to the bathroom and recheck your makeup because it seems that you cried it all off." Her mother chuckled.

"What?!" Byeol ran to the bathroom and saw that her eye makeup had smeared from her tears due to the onions she had cut up. She took her makeup wipes and wiped away her makeup leaving her bare face. So far the day was going disastrous. Jungkook would be here in less than an hour and she wasn't even dressed properly, still in her PJ pants and a green shirt. the same with her face, it was a mess. But then Byeol looked at herself in the mirror and said,

"He's not here to see you." A wave of sadness washed over her. She needed to remember the fact that he was in love with her sister and not her.

"Byeol, are you ready? Jungkook just called and said that they would be here in fifteen minutes." Her mother said outside the door.

"Yeah, I'll be out in five." Byeol quickly got changed and was surprised by her mother's loud voice.

"Omo! You guys are here!" Welcome back!" Byeol's mother hugged Mr. and Mrs. Jeon. Byeol also hurried to them and gave them each a hug.

"Byeol!" They exclaimed as they exchanged hugs.

"It's nice to see you guys." Byeol said breaking the hug.

"Oh my, you've definitely matured." Mrs.Jeon said as she patted Byeol on the back.

"Well she definitely got taller. I remember when you were just this small" Mr.Jeon put his hand next to his waist showing how much she had grown.

"Yeah well, it's been seven years." Byeol chuckled a little bit at their reactions. She was also just really happy to see them after such a long time.

"Speaking of seven years, Jungkook-ah! Are you done carrying everything?" Mrs.Jeon shouted out the door.

"Yeah I'm carrying the last of it right now." He said and walked into the door.

There he was right in front of her. The real Jeon Jungkook. He had changed. He had gotten way taller, way handsomer, and his voice was way... Hotter. She couldn't help but continue to stare at him.

"Byeol!" He said and hugged her snapping her out of her deep thoughts.

"J-Jungkook!" She quickly returned the hug.

"It's so nice to see you again!" He gave her a squeeze.

"Well you've certainly changed." Byeol said.

"I look way handsomer right?" He asked raising up his brows along with an anticipating smile.

"You wish, you still have a baby face and you're probably still acting like a ten year old." Everyone laughed at her comment. But it was a lie. Sure Jungkook still looked cute but his face definitely matured. The aura around him just felt different in general.

"Gosh, you could at least say one nice thing to me after seven years." He pouted.

She laughed at him, "Sorry. You did get better looking, just a little though." She said measuring a little with her thumb and index finger.

The adults sat down in the living room while the two of them went to the basement to catch up. He began talking about some new experiences he had encountered in America. He even stood up and demonstrated by acting it out which made Byeol laugh out loud, causing Jungkook chuckle a bit as well. He was always a good story teller she thought. He always made things seem so interesting no matter how simple it may be. He finally finished up his story.

"Oh God I've been talking for almost an hour." He said looking at the clock. It may have been almost an hour but whenever she was with him time seems to alway fly by making it feels like only seconds had passed. She only chuckled in response.

"By the way, where's your sister?" He asked, shattering Byeol's happy smile. Not that she hated her sister or anything. She just wanted the attention on just her and him without her sister. No matter what or when her sister was always on his mind. It's never just him and her on his mind. It made her kinda irritated but she knew that she had no right to be mad at him.

"Uh she's at work. Well she picked up an early morning shift so she should be back soon." Byeol told him.

"Ah I see." He said, shortly after he let out a big sigh.

"What was that?" Byeol asked giving him a weird look.

"I'm just happy to be reunited with you guys again. This is probably the best moment in my life." He put his arm over Byeol's shoulder.

"You mean second best." She corrected him.

"Second best? What was my first best then?" He asked with an eyebrow raised.

"Your best moment in life is obviously meeting me." Byeol smirked causing Jungkook to just burst out laughing.

"Yah! What's up with that reaction!" She punched him on the arm.

"Hahaha! Sorry it's just -" He continued to laugh for a bit longer.

"Sorry, anyways you're right. How could I possibly forget about the 'best' moment in my life. Besides if I hadn't met you I would've never met your sister." He smiled.

That one sentence tore the insides of Byeol apart. She felt a stab in her chest and it hurt... Like a lot. She smiled after a short moment of hesitation. Everything they had talked about always found it's way back to her sister. Her beautiful sister with absolutely no flaw. Her sister that had always outshined her. Her sister who had the lover of HER life. It was sad, but what could she possibly do about it? She grew up knowing his feelings yet this pain inside of her would not cease.

"Eww! You're smile is creeping me out you creep!" She forced a laugh and lightly hit him on his shoulder.

"Who's being a creep?" A voice interrupted making both their heads turn to the sound.

"Mina!" They both shouted causing the girl to smile in return.

"Is that you Jungkook? You've changed." She smiled shyly.

"Yeah, it's nice to see you after such a long time. You've gotten even more beautiful since the last time I saw you." He said and gave her a hug.

Byeol scoffed at the two. The scene made her want to run into the depths of hell and it would still be better than watching the two of them together saying compliments and such as those.

"Ehem. Sorry to interrupt such a touching moment but my senses are telling me that it's time to go eat." Byeol said dragged the two of them upstairs with her.

Byeol's POV

We all sat down at the table. I sat on the right side of Jungkook while Mina sat on the left side of Jungkook. There was lots to talk about. Jungkook's parents explained how they missed eating Korean food so much although of course American food was great as well but they couldn't help but feel a little homesick. The table was full of laughter, talking, and eating and it was just great. I wouldn't mind if it was like this everyday at their dinner table. To invite Jungkook's family over and have breakfast and dinner. Jungkook their family didn't live far either, they were only a couple blocks away, walking distance. When we were finally done eating I helped my mother clean the table, while Mina went to her room to change out of her work clothes.

"Mom leave the dishes I'll do it." I scooted my mother out of the kitchen.

"Alright then I'll leave it to you." She said and left to the living room. I could tell she was really happy to see Mr. and Mrs. Jeon again. She was practically skipping to the living room.

"I'll help you." I heard a voice behind me.

"Jungkook?" I turned around.

"Who else would it be?" He chuckled as he scooted me over so he could rinse the dishes..

"It's fine I can do it myself. I can't the guest be doing the chores around my house." I said and tried to make him move.

"Did you get weaker? I remember that as kids you were always stronger than me." He asked with a teasing smile which made me wanna smack it off his face.

"Yah! I didn't get weaker, you just got stronger!" I said completely forgetting the fact that he was now doing dishes with me.

"Aish... Look at you same old stubborn girl." He tsked. I give up. Jungkook will always remain Jungkook no matter how much his looks may change. How did I even fall in love with this jerk? We continued to do the dishes in silence until he asked a question.

"Hey, so did you ever date anyone while I was gone?" He asked which left me kinda shocked. Well surprised. I never dated anyone else... I was always happy with just the e-mails that I received from Jungkook. I don't think I ever even thought about dating someone else.

"I..."

"Hey Jungkook!" Both me and Jungkook turned to the voice behind us.

"Mina, you're done changing?" I asked her. She had changed into a cute pink skirt with a tucked in striped t-shirt.

"Yeah, Jungkook you wanna go talk and catch up?" Mina asked.

"Uh yeah let me help Byeol finish with the dishes really quick." He said.

"It's fine. I can finish it. There's only a few left. You guys should go and catch up." I said and pushed Jungkook over.

"Are you sure?" He asked. I could tell he felt a little bad. Good. He should feel bad he's leaving me. But I'll be nice to him today.

"Yeah I'm fine. I'll be with you guys in a couple minutes." I said.

"Kay let's go." Mina dragged Jungkook with her.

I finally finished the dishes by MYSELF and wiped my hands dry. My phone began to vibrate in my jean pocket. I quickly grabbed it and took a look at it. It was a call from Taehyung. I answered it,

"What's up?" I asked.

"Well I need your help..." He said a little hesitant.

"What did you do this time Kim Taehyung?" I asked. There are only three reason why he ever asks me for help. One he gets in a little trouble, two he gets in big trouble or three he gets in HUGE trouble. And I'm hoping that it's number one.

"Well I got in a little trouble." Spot on. What did I say? I know Taehyung like the back of my hand.

"Hmmm... Little trouble. Let me guess. You said something that got Soo Kyung mad didn't you?" I guessed even though I know I'm probably right.

"Yeah... So I'm trying to make it up to her by buying her something but I don't know what to buy so can you please help me?" He begged over the phone.

This is not the first time this has happened. What happens a lot is that one of them will get the other mad in some way and I'll be the one they call to ask for help. It's like I'm the reason why this couple is still together. What would they do without me, I sigh thinking about it.

"Where do you wanna meet up?" I asked already getting my bag and keys ready from my room.

"Let's meet up at XXXXX Mall." He replied.

"Ok I'll see you there. And let's make this quick." I said and hung up.

I made my way out of my room and began to walk down the stairs to the door until my mother stopped me.

"Byeol, where are you going?" She asked.

"Uh I'm gonna be going out to the mall really quick." I said.

"Is that so? Take Jungkook and Mina with you as well then." She suggested, well it was more like demanded.

"Uh... Well." Before I could finish my sentence Mr. and Mrs. Jeon who seemed ecstatic about that idea quickly exclaimed,

"That'd be great! Go take Jungkook to the mall with you! He needs to inhale Korea's air more."

"Ahaha... Right..." I gave a slightly awkward chuckle.

It was going to be a long day.
