Cut Your TeethIt happens in snapshots, so quickly that Jennie isn’t sure if it’s a waking dream.
The skin of his palm is rough against her cheek. His fingers tangle loosely in her hair.
She rests her forehead against his.
Their noses touch.
His lips brush feathersoft against her own.
And then they are bathed in light. Jennie reflexively pulls back to cover her eyes. Suga coughs awkwardly, removing his hand.
“Why are you in the pantry?” Jisoo asks, standing in the doorway as Jennie looks up. It’s not hard to notice the amusement in the older girl’s question.
Jennie assumes the question is meant for her until Suga, now standing, answers.
“I thought I would come check it out today instead of tomorrow.” Suga says casually, but Jennie notices there’s a flush to his neck.
“What took you so long?” Jennie changes the subject, brushing past Suga to join Jisoo in the kitchen. “You said you were just going out for an errand.”
“I got caught in the rain and had to wait for Jungkook to come pick me up since somebody wasn’t answering their phone.”
For the first time Jennie notices the wetness of Jisoo’s hair and clothes. She looks like someone had poured a bucket of water over her body.
“Sorry, Jisoo.” Suga murmurs guilty, but she waves him off.
“Don’t worry about me, just take Jennie home.”
Jennie turns to look at her, eyes wide.
“But what about the shop?”
“I’m tired, and no one’s coming anyway.” Jisoo sighs, holding her ever-growing stomach. “I’ll just close up, you can go home.”
“I have an umbrella in the car, I can run out and get it…” Suga offers, his tongue absently darting out to his bottom lip.
Jennie swallows, tearing her gaze away from his lips. The lips that had touched her lips.
“No! Um, I’ll just—I’m going to take the bus.”
“Jennie!”
She hears Jisoo call out to her, telling her not to leave, but Jennie’s on autopilot as she gathers her belongings and runs out the door. She barely feels the rain coating her skin as she runs to the bus stop.
Jennie ends up outside of a familiar door without really knowing how she had gotten there. Her body had taken her from Point A to Point B without her mind putting in any effort.
Her mind had gone blank. She couldn’t afford to think.
“Jennie, what the ?”
Taehyung opens the door to his rooftop apartment, greeting her with a startled expression. She knows she looks like a drowned rat that had washed up on his doorstep.
“You lied to me, Taehyung.” Her voice cracks. “You said you didn’t know anything about Suga.”
“Don’t just stand in the rain like that, Jen. You’re gonna get sick.” Taehyung gently tugs at her shoulder, her whole body following behind without much resistance. He reaches for her in shock, his hand resting on her back.
“Please, Taehyung. I need to know who Suga is.” Jennie begs him, leaning forward so that her head rests on his shoulder. Her hair leaves a damp stain on him clothes.
Tears sting in the back of but she refuses to let them fall. Crying won’t get her anywhere. Being weak won’t get her anything.
“He’s a bad man.” Taehyung grips onto her arms, holding her steady. “That’s all that you need to know. He’s a criminal, Jennie.”
She lifts her chin, peering at him from heavy-lidded eyes.
“But I’m a criminal.”
“You’re nothing like him.” His voice softens as he looks at her. She wonders what he sees.
A little lost girl? A madwoman?
