Life and death

Description

Thsi is basically about 6 completely different children who all had one thing in common : being dumped at an orphanage. Oka, Sayuri, Tatsuo, Yoo, Miyuki and Narumi have different personalities and lived different lives until one day, the same day for them all, something that changed their lives for ever happened. They were each informed that something terrible had happened and they were immidiately whisked away to Madame May's orphanage for derelict children. The orphanage was a tall, dark and dreary place with old, gothic features and the lady running it was the opposite. Bright and full of false smiles on the children's arrival but in her mind horrible, beastly thoughts started to form as she discovered more and more about the children. Anyway, more about the children. Oka and Tatsuo were brother and sister, as close as could be. They shared everything together, even their bed! they were both brought up in a little cottage on the edge of the woods and their lives were based around the animals and the woods itself that formed around their house. Sayuri was born into a very rich family and they lived in the city with her parents who were always away and used the excuse 'Sorry darling, I'm ever so busy today! I've left some money in your room, go and get one of the maids to take you out shopping.' Sayuri was very rich and soon it rubbed off on her and she became horribly spoilt, demanding this and that and throwing tantrums when things weren't done to her insanely high standards. Yoo was the opposite. Well, kind of. He too was born into a rich family but they were close and they had no helpers to run their immensly big house. His mother cooked and cleaned but also worked as head secretary for a very large and popular company. She was sweet and small, plump and bouncy. His father was head director of a film company and always made masses or money from each and every movie he made. He was tall and broad shouldered. He was very competitive when it came to their game evenings but never ever got angry. He had a calm nature and always had a pinch march from where his glasses had squeezed his nose. He did his job off washing up after meals and pruning the bushes in the garden to perfection. Yoo was like a little rabbit, darting here and there, doing odd jobs for his parents and just helping out. He went to school but only four days a week as on Friday was church day for his parents, not Sunday. Miyuki was born oldest and would soon be told that she would have to care for her younger siblings at the age of five. Her family were quite poor but not as poor as Narumi's parents were. They lived in a tiny matchbox apartment and her mother was ill. Soon she had to quit work and stay at home and that was when her father started to drink. At first it was just a bit after a horrible arguement but soon it was just for the sake of drinking. He would come home tipsy and start up arguements with everyone and soon started to hit his daughter and heavily pregnant wife. When one night her mother was badly bruised, Narumi sped her to the nearest docter who clamed she would die. Narumi, heartbroken, realised that she couldn't live with her father alone. But when she got home her neighbour was there along with two strangers. They took her away in their care and explained that her neighbour had reported that her mother was dying and her father was abusive so they took immediate action in arresting her father and taking her mother to hospital.

Foreword

Oka woke up early in the morning to the sounds of her brother, Tatsuo, screaming at her and banging pots together. That of course, was her wake up call. She held her breath and went stock still suddenly and she heard her brother stop. He leaned down so that his face was in hers and suddenly she jumped out at him and leaped at him, clinging onto his legs.He was only two years older then her but he was already as tall as their parents. She hung onto him all the way down the stairs and into the kitchen. She could fell the air turn colder as his feet skimmed over the sleety, hard tiles that covered the floor of the kitchen. She shivered and studied the goosebumps forming on her arms. Then she realised he had stopped and was looking down at her.

"Off" He commanded, pointing at the floor. He repeated himself but still she clung on. Finally, in a last, final attempt he shook his leg and she suddenly went flying off into the air and landed with a thump on the hard tiles and almost instantly the iciness of it erupted over her, freezing and making her hairs prickle and her goosebumps stand out. she lept up and howled angrily but stopped at the last second and leant on his warm arm and fell asleep again.

The grass was green and the flowers had emerged from their underground homes. The sun shone down on her face, making her blonde hair glisten and glow...

"Oka..Oka wake up..." It was Tatsuo trying to wake her up again after a few hours of restless and awkward silence as she slept on his arm. Someone had knocked at the door and he felt too alarmed to go and open it. They were home alone because their parents had left earlier to go to an 'art gallery'. He shook Oka off her arm and peeked out from behind the lacy curtains of their cottage and saw a man wearing a posh and probably expensive suit. The man spotted him and pointed at the door, showing that he wanted to be let in.

"G-go away" Tatsuo managed to say but the man clearly didn't hear so he turned back to Oka and shook her awake. She sighed at his babyness and invited the man in, offering him a hot drink and a biscuit or two. He refused sat down on their best armchair but he looked at it like it was carrying a bad disease.

"Now children. I want you to fully understand that the accident was no ones fault." He started before he was cut off by Oka.

"Wait do you mean, accident..?"

"Well, when you parents were driving down that thin bumpy road to an art gallery.. They went off the road and their car sunk into a ditch with them inside. and it is believed that they suffocated. You're orphans now!" He blurted out, his voice too jolly.

They stared at him in shock silence and a single tear ran down Oka's cheek.

Only days later they were dropped of at an orphanage that they had never heard of, in a city that they had never heard of, in a country they had never heard of.

"I-i don't like it" Oka stuttered.

Tatsuo said nothing but put his arm around her protectively.

Suddenly the door flew open and out strutted a lady, aboutmade 30s sporting a tight black dress and her small tottering legs were covered it dark stockings.

"Ahh children.." She said, beckoning them, "Come on in.."
