Foreword

Midnight Suhodan Kimsai is the Crown Prince of the humid Island of Denanshi. He lives with his half brother, Kasper Doryen, and step mother Lady Neoma Kimsai-Barapen in Great Denanshi, one of the most powerful cities in their world.

His father was murdered before his very eyes as they strolled through a village disguised and unaided. The sheer horror of watching a madman wield a sharp sword through the back of his father devasted young Midnight. King Elaric Baekim Kimsai led his son to safety before passing onto the next realm at night.

His humanoid form bursting into glowing petals that dispersed into the night sky where, beyond the horizon, the Festival of Light had begun, the two Moons shining bright on each end of the sky -  Erestia's pure white and Astoria's ungodly red.

Midnight was rushed to safety with the emergence of the special Royal Guard.

But chaos had only just begun.

The Great Elders of Denanshi were slaughtered through the night as glowing petals continued to wade into the sky. Shrieks were unheard over the sound of celebration. Soon, it came to pass that all officials who were appointed to pass down the sacred words of the past were no longer residing in their world. As the sacred history was passed down by Kings and Queens to their descendants by mouth, there were no scriptures. Nothing remained - even the hidden Denanshi Shrine, shrouded in the Kingdom's deep and mystical forest, was destroyed when found by the Royal Guard.

That morning, Denanshi was no longer the fiercesome Kingdom it had once been. It was cracked and falling, in just a day.

The killers handed themselves in as rebels against the Kingdom of Kimsai. Midnight did not watch the executions. Instead, at the young age of seven, he heard the chorus of screams behind closed doors until they were finally silenced.

The Kimsai family were the only ones in the Kingdom who could use the ancient power of flowers. The Island was known for its strange and mystical plants and creatures. It was an almost-paradise, save for the overwhelming humidity which was thick no matter where one stood on the island. Stories had been passed down for many generations of powers that families had inheritated until five hundred years earlier when all power was taken from the Kingdom and locked away from all by the Kimsai clan. And without the knowledge and guidance from the Great Elders, young Midnight was lost for reason to keep his place as a ruler of the Kingdom. Confidence was dying, rebellions were growing. There were many families loyal to the Royal family, but many who despised the power that the Kimsai clan still had.

As Midnight grew older, he came to learn of the Kingdom's inhabitants regaining their ancient powers. Thousands of people were now basking in the refound powers, becoming powerful in the process. New skills were learned, new secret trades were made.

However, Lady Neoma, ruling on behalf of her step-son, created strict laws that photosynthesising powers from plants was prohibited for the inhabitants of Denanshi. Despite Midnight's anger of this rule, Lady Neoma ruled with a firm eye. Her son, Kasper Doryen, supported her in full. And so, grave penalties were given to users. Prison sentences, hard labour and executions were passed down as punishments. Midnight grew to hate Lady Neoma and Prince Doryen.

And so begins Crown Prince Midnight Suhodan Kimsai's story.
