Wake Me Up

Walking through the halls of my old high school and seeing the red brick walls gave me the feeling of nostalgia. Feeling the cool brick as I quietly walk down the halls, I can hear the hustling and bustling of the people all around trying to get to their next class. "This way," a voice softly calls my attention down a hall that I know is a dead end but I follow it any way. Turning down the hall I see a white paper with an arrow pointing in the direction to take me further down the hall. Intrigued I continue to find a stair well at the end that has another white paper with yet another arrow pointing for me to go up the stairs. By now I'm unsure as to what I'm doing and the uncertainty has me standing at the bottom of the stairs. "Almost there," that voice from earlier beckons me. Sighing I take courage and make my way up the stairs. Walking into what now seems like some kind of office space or is it a library? Whatever this place is, I know that I'm no longer at my high school. Walking forward, seems to be the only thing that sounds logical I take notice at people taking glances at me. It makes me feel out of place, but I can only take courage in my strides to move forward to see a wooden door. There placed onto the door was a white paper with the words, "Come inside." Opening the door I walk in to be met with gasps. Unnerved and vulnerable, I walk into the room. "Ah there you are," the owner to the voice that led me here. "See I told you she was real," your voice boomed with confidence as you turned away from your computer and moved out of your chair towards me. The way you recognized me and then embraced me so proudly brought tears to my eyes. I didn't know why I was crying in your arms. But I did know that I loved the way I felt in your arms.

A loud horn sounded, bringing me to. "I'm awake," I groaned as I turned off my phone. Cuddling in my warm blankets I imagined your arms warming me. But to no avail that damn alarm rang again, letting me know it was time. Lifting my zombie like body up and out bed I fumbled out of my room in to the cool hall and right onto the toilet. Plopping down I tried my best to stay in the dream of you and me.

"Hurry up, I gotta go to the bathroom," my nusiance of a brother mumbles through the door.

"Hmm..." I half way acknowlege him to get him to give me just a little more time.

"C'mon I gotta go," he started to pound on the door.

"Alright, alright," I grumbled back as I made my way up. Stumbling to the sink I was a bit startled by how deathly I looked, ", looks like I had a nightmare."

Taking a little more time today to give myself a little more tender love and care, I placed some black shades on just in case. With fresh coffee in hand I grabbed my phone and purse before heading out for the day. Heading down the stairs towards the train, I realized if I rushed I could make the train earlier than the one I needed to take. Picking up speed, I zig zagged in between the crowds of people. Grinning as I neared the door, I was met with a solid wall and my hot coffee spilt down my outfit.

"Oh my goodness I am so sorry," a voice boomed from what I thought was a wall.

Hissing at the outfit I so carefully picked out today, I quickly waved off the man as I turned back home. Rushing into the house, I had no time to think of what to wear. Pulling out a dress, I slipped it on before heading back out the door. This time with more panic as I ran for my train. With long strides, I found luck on my side as I slid through the closing doors. Letting out a sight of relief, I moved to find myself stopped. Turning back I noticed that a good portion of my dress was caught between the closed doors. Tugging on my dress as discretly as possible, it seemed to have been wedged pretty deep. But I couldn't just stand here for a half an hour, that's asking too much from me this early. Pulling harder on my dress, I leaned the opposite way and noticed it was starting to give way. This gave me encouragement to pull even more. Pulling on dress even harder caused my dress to rip and me tumbling onto someone's lap. The embarassment of laying on a stranger's lap wasn't nearly as embarassing as the words that came out of his mouth.

"Umm...your dress is ripped," he softly spoke.

My head snapped back and just as it was stated, my dress was ripped all the way up to my thighs. Quickly apologizing, I reached for my dress and bundled it closed as I made my way to an open seat. I don't have time to head back home, but how can I show up looking like this?! Sighing I let my dress fall to be a make shift slit.

"Here," a black suit jacket was placed upon my lap. It seemed to be of pretty expensive material. "You can use my jacket."

"Oh no I can't," I tried to give him his nice jacket back.

"No really I insist. It's a little chilly out anyway," the kind stranger said before taking his leave.

I couldn't help but feel gratitude as I covered my legs with his warm suit jacket. Sitting in the quiet air of the train moving, I heard my phone ring. Quickly picking it up as I saw that it was a call from a good friend. "Hello?"

"Minzy girl have you thought about our high school reunion? We should really go. C'mon it's our ten year. We've been out of high school for ten years," my friend chimed through the phone.

The mention of high school triggered my thoughts back into my dream earlier today. Closing my eyes as I thought about walking through the halls and the red brick walls brought a small smile to my face. "Alright."

"What?! Am I hearing right? Don't lie to me Gong Minzy," her voice was serious.

"Yes I'm serious," glancing through the window I noticed that it was my stop. "I'm gonna have to call you back later okay? We can discuss what to wear this weekend okay?"

"Yes, yes, yes! Good luck today," she sang before hanging up.

It was my cue to get up and go as I moved with the crowd. Slinging the jacket around my hips, I tied it in place as I made my way into the office builiding. Walking up to the receptionist desk I offered a smile in hopes that I was in the right place. "Hi I'm here for my interview."

The receptionist returned the smile as she pointed down the hall, "Down the hall and up the stairs."

"Thank you," I nodded as I made my way. Grinning to myself I couldn't help but notice the walls were of red brick. Extending my hand out, I let my fingers brush against the cool bricks and thought back to my dream. It felt so surreal as I turned to stare up the stairs. Not trying to let my imagination get the best of me, I took focus in every step I took. Quietly listening to my own foot steps as I made my way to the top of the stairs. Glancing around, there was a white paper with an arrow pointing down the hall way. Seeing it sent a shiver down my spine as I quickly moved down the hall to where it opened up into a wide office space. There sat a person at a desk and motioned for me to take a seat in one of the chairs by her desk. Taking a seat, I couldn't help but feel my nerves starting to act up in the pit of my stomach. Wrapping my arms around my stomach, I closed my eyes and listened to the person type away. Hearing the way the person typed away gave me a peace of mind. Focusing solely on the typing, it threw me off when it stopped.

"Excuse me, you can go on in," the person spoke up.

Clearing my throat, I stood up and headed towards the door. Standing at the wooden door, I inhaled deeply as I tried to gather my thoughts. "Come in," the voice called through the door. Pushing the door open, I stepped into the office grateful to see the man intently staring at the computer before him. "Have a seat," he spoke up and I gladly took a seat. But even if he was focused on the computer I couldn't help myself at diverting my eyes down to the ground. Sighing at my torn dress, I did my best to pull the suit jacket over the rip. I hope he can't see it. "Is there something interesting down there," his voice rang in my ear. I was startled to see a pair of dark brown eyes. They held strength and confidence, something that I seemed to lack as I broke eye contact.

"Oh no, sorry sir," I quickly said as I found myself dodging his gaze.

"Bom will you please come in here," I listened to him say over the phone and in a moment the door behind me opened. "This has got to be the craziest day. I told you she was real...look..." Confused by what he was getting at, I glanced over to see both of them laughing at me. To answer my questioning gaze he waved his hands at me, "We're not laughing at you. But we're laughing at how things turned out today." I nodded trying to follow what he was getting at. "Do you remember me," he asked in all seriousness.

My first response would be a no, but the look on his face seemed to be that he recognized me. But how or where? Sitting in place as I stared back at him, I noticed that the man before me was a young man and in fact looked around my age. He seemed to have a boyish face, especially with the boyish grin on his face.

"I'm sorry...but I can't seem to place where I know you from," I softly apologized, not wanting to offend him.

"Ouch I guess I'm very forgettable even though this will be the third time we've met," he frowned.

Though I didn't believe him, I honestly can't remember who he is for the life of me, "Umm...sorry where do I know you from?"

"That stylish suit jacket wrapped around your waist, whose name is on it," the young woman named Bom asked.

I don't really remeber seeing a name, but I guess I can check. Sitting up to untie the jacket from around my waist, I lift it up to examine it. There on the inside of the jacket was a name embroidered into it, "Dong...Youngbae?" Hearing the young man clear his throat, I watched as he walked around his desk to lean upon it before placing his hand onto his plaque, "Dong...Youngbae?" Repeating his name a few times in my mind and looking at his face it hit me. Gasping at the realization everything clicked, "Oh my, I've ran into you three times today!"

Both Dong Youngbae and Bom chuckled at me as I stared in disbelief, "You seem to have a lot on your mind today," he said as he waved for me to stand. In doing so, he wrapped his jacket around my waist. Knotting it in the front, the smell of his cologne was heavenly. "There," he slung his arm over my shoulders and pulled me into an embrace. "Now that we are well acquianted how about we go grab some coffee and this time I promise to look where I'm walking instead of spilling it over the both of us?"

"And the interview," I had to ask.

He sighed as he looked down at me, "Well I can't really date my employees so we'll see."

"Dong Youngbae don't like that," Bom gasped as she wacked his arm.

He shrugged as he dropped his strong arm from me, "I'm just being honest, she just might be the girl of my dreams." Flashing me his pearly whites, he winked before he earned another hard wack to the arm. "Bom you can't be hitting your boss like that!"

"And you can't be teasing this poor girl to death like that," she gave him a stern look before looking over to me with a remorseful smile. "I'm sorry honey." Huffing he went about grabbing his things, while I was led out of the office with Bom. "My boss is usually very professional. But today he came in fully awake with coffee spilt from head to toe and no suit jacket and all in the same with a big toothy grin. He told me of what had happened this morning and his description of you is very accurate, you're very beautiful..." her words made my cheeks heat up. "Not to embarass you, but I think you have him wrapped around your finger."

"You're too kind," was all I could think of saying.

Bom grinned as she sat at her desk, "You're welcome sweet young lady. Enjoy your coffee and order something sweet for me."

"You're not coming with us," unsure of what was happening.

"I'm busy," she winked at me as if hinting to me that she was purposely "busy."

"Alright are you ready to go," Youngbae looked to me unfazed by Bom's reply.

"Okay," I answered questioning the situation and most importantly questioning myself as I found myself following him. I couldn't grasp what was happening as I looked back to see Bom giving me a thumbs up. Shrugging it off, I turned to walk right into him.

"Whoa already moving to the next level I see," he chuckled as I noticed I had my arms wrapped around his waist.

Dropping my hands quickly, I didn't know what to think besides the fact that I keep being so clumpsy around him, "I...I'm so sorry."

"It's okay, maybe we can start by doing this," he reached for my hand and took it in his. His actions made me nearly choke as he gently pulled me along. "It feels like I'm escorting a child with you walking so far behind," he teased me when we walked outside.

"Sorry," I quickly muttered as I rushed to his side.

"You know," he said as he squeezed my hand to get me to look up at him. "I'm probably being a little too forward, but what can I do to make you feel a little more at ease with me? You seem kind of tense."

Giving him a half grin because of how considerate he was sounding, "I don't know why I just feel like..."

"WATCH OUT," someone shouted.

Glancing over, there was a car that drove up onto the sidewalk. Frozen in place as I watched the car head straight for me, there was a sudden force that pulled me out of the way. Gasping as I felt my feet leave the ground, it was like I was floating on air. Gazing at the car impacting right into the building, my eyes automactically shifted in the direction of where my body was flying. Soon panic started to take in the pit of my stomach as I saw the concrete ground, but luckily my wrist was caught. Youngbae pulled me into his direction and I couldn't help but grunt at our hard impact. Coughing as I tried to catch my breath, I couldn't help but feel light headed. Everything seemed to be spinning or was it just me as I lay in place.

"Are you alright," a voice echoed. Groaning as I felt someone shake me, making things spin a little faster. "Are you alright," the voice was louder.

"Yes," I was able to choke out. Trying my best to pull myself together, I could hear a soft thumping. It sounded like a heart beat. It was constant and beating to a rhythm of it's own drum. Drowning out everything but the sound of the soft thumping, the light headed feeling seemed to dissapate. Slowly opening my eyes, my vision was blurred. Blinking slowly, I was able to refocus my eye and see a crowd standing around me.

"Move back," I heard someone call out as the crowd divided for the paramedics to come through.

Gazing up at the man who knelt by me, he gave me a reassuring smile, "I'm going to move you off of him and onto the gurney." He's going to move me off of him? Off of who? As if to answer my question I heard a groan beneath me. Shifting my gaze, I looked to see Youngbae beneath me.

Gasping I quickly shifted onto the ground and panicked, "Youngbae..." My throat was dried as I squeaked out again, "Dong Youngbae are you hurt?" Watching his eyes flutter open at the mention of his name he flashed me a big toothy smile.

"I'm...fine..." he croaked before coughing.

"What a liar," I frowned.

Before I could scold him any futher, I was moved to be examined. But I was more panicked seeing Youngbae lifted onto the gurney. Pushing myself up though my body ached, I followed the paramedics escorting Youngbae. "Ma'am you can't get on the ambulance unless you are..."

"I'm his wife," I found myself mindlessly saying as I pushed my way onto the ambulance. Frowning as I saw that he had lost consciousness. Fear crept into my mind as I watched the two paramedics go to work on him. He didn't look like he had that bad of injuries, but what would I know.

"He's going to be okay. Don't worry ma'am we'll save your husband," the paramedic assured me.

Luckily we were at the hospital in a flash as we rushed into the emergency room to nurses flanking our sides. "Please wait here," a nurse caught me by the arm to which caused me to groan out in pain. "I think your arm is dislocated," the nurse hissed as she called for assistance. Meanwhile I stood watching as Youngbae was wheeled down the hall and disappearing at some double doors. "Ma'am please take a seat," I looked to see a wheelchair in front of me. Getting on, I was wisked to a room with various other nurses. "We're going to put you to sleep so that you won't feel the pain," one of the nurse's explained as I was guided onto the bed. I could only nod as I watched them go to work. Quietly I laid and watched as a thick milky like substance was placed into my IV.

I couldn't understand how I got back to my hight school, but I was there. Entering the halls I saw the imfamous red brick walls. Gliding my finger tips across the cool brick a soft voice beckoned me down one of the halls. This voice was familiar as well as this black arrow printed onto a white sheet of paper. All of it felt so familiar as I stood at the bottom of the stair well. I didn't need the signs to tell me where to go, I already knew as I made my way up the stairs and down the hall. Finally coming to the door that read "Come inside," I pushed the door confidently open to be met with gasps. There you were sitting at your computer waiting just for me. Seeing you stand to face me with a big toothy smile, I couldn't help but match it. Rushing into your arms relief was what I felt as you chuckled.

The same voice that had called out to me in my dreams was the voice that had my eyes fluttering open at the moment. Coming to, the glazed view before me soon turned crystal clear. "Good to see you awake my dear wife," Young bae gave me a big toothy smile.

Lunging into his arms, I couldn't help the tears that fell from my eyes, "You're okay."

"I'm better now that my fake wife is awake," he chuckled as he held me in his arms.

"It was the only way..."

"I would've done the same," he cooed as he looked down into my eyes. "I guess coffee is probably not a great idea for us?"

His words made me laugh as I smiled, "Probably not. But I feel like with what we've been through today we deserve something better than coffee."

"And what would that be," he cocked his eyebrow at me in curiosity.

Shrugging I nuzzled up against him and listened to his heart beat, "Maybe we can just cuddle up like this."

"You're one fast girl," he coughed in disbelief. "I've never met a girl so bold as you."

"Well get used to it," I mumbled into his chest. "Because the medicine is putting me back to sleep."

"Dream of me fake wife," he sighed as he held me close in his arms.

"Gladly," I found myself inhaling deeply of his scent as I drifted back into dreamland.

Rusty and somewhat out of touch is what I would call this lol. Her dream is based off of a random dream I had and inspired by Taeyang's song Wake Me Up. Hope y'all enjoyed it, thanks for reading!
