Prologue
Shooting Into Your Heart
“Put your hands up in the air!” Jongin shouted as he steadily pointed his gun at the man. He felt his sweat dripping down from under his police hat, but resisted the urge to wipe it away. The masked man, however, continued to clutch onto the bag of money, looking around cautiously. This was the fifth time that the corner convenience store had been raided, and Jongin was not about to let it happen again. This time, he would catch him. This time, there would be no more risks. The man took a step, and Jongin immediately fired.
The loud echo of the gunshot was heard throughout the area. He slowly walked towards the culprit, still targeting him with the weapon. As he got closer, his complexion became pale. He quickly looked up, and saw the man dressed in black running away in the distance. Panic started to set in. Lying still in front of him was a young man dressed in a blood-stained white t-shirt with blue jeans. His bag of groceries lay beside him, its contents scattered everywhere. Jongin located the wound and pulled out a handkerchief, trying to stop the bleeding. With his right hand, he pulled out his walkie-talkie.
“Code 54-7, victim is shot. Cheongdam 2, Gangnam District. Please send an ambulance as soon as possible.” he spoke calmly, despite breathing hard. He placed his free hand and continued to hold the blood down. Jongin bowed his head down and prayed for the innocent passerby to be fine as he heard the sirens in the distance coming closer.
