The Haircut
And so it begins“Hi.” Nam Ji Hyun said, as she got into the car.
“Hi.” Seo In Guk replied.
“So… this is awkward.”
“I know right!”
“Shall we go and eat something?”
“Ok. What do you want to eat?”
“Why don’t you pick? It’s just a couple days more to the enlistment.”
“Argh… don’t remind me.”
“Are you going to cut your hair?”
“I’m thinking of doing it later.”
“Why don’t we just go to the salon and get it done now?”
“By doing it later, I meant, I was going to shave it off by myself and drown myself in tears in the privacy of my own home.”
“Oh. Do you want me to come over and help you so that you don’t drown in tears? My sister cuts my appa’s hair and it seems pretty easy.”
“You want to come over?” His eyes widened slightly, at the seemingly innocuous proposition.
“Erm… is that weird?” She asked, suddenly realising the obvious implication in his question.
“No, I guess not.” He replied, with a shrug as he put the car into drive.
…
“Are you ready?” Nam Ji Hyun asked, excitedly waving the electric shaver in her hand.
“No…and you waving the shaver is not helping.” Seo In Guk replied with a sulk.
“Ok, here goes nothing!”
The shaver buzzed alive and he felt the vibration of the shaver moving slowly on his scalp.
“How does it look?” He asked, his eyes tightly shut.
“Like hair.” She replied, in her usual bright manner.
“Hyun-ie!”
“What? It looks like hair! Stop moving!”
“There. Done.” She said finally, after an extended period of the two yelling at each other while she tried to shave his hair off.
He stood up and peered into the mirror.
