I apologize in advance

Foreword

The hospital was ing boring, Nayeon hated it. She'd been there for like a month.

A car accident, her parents said, she doesn't remember much about it.
Anyways, tomorrow she would finally be out. All she wanted to do was go to her favourite place, the rose garden. It was a perfect time to go as it was spring, the girl was pretty anxious to be out.

The nurse came in, bringing Nayeon her food "Dinner's ready honey, eat before it gets cold". She wasn't really that hungry but she took some bites so that the sweet nurse would be happy and leave her alone.
As soon as the nurse left, Nayeon turned off the lights and closed her eyes hoping to fall quickly into a slumber. Thinking about her day tomorrow at the rose garden, she fell asleep faster than she thought she would.

It was even more beautiful than she remembered, and the weather was also in her favour. Flowers of plenty of colours, the nice unclouded sky, and there she was taking it all in.
"Hey, can I have a sit?" Nayeon gets a little startled by the sound of a voice but she opened her eyes, only to see the prettiest girl waiting for an answer, with a smile on her face.
"Sure, no problem". She scooted to leave a bigger space for the nice stranger to sit. A little while passed and the girl beside her said "I noticed you were reading 'The little prince', it's one of my favourite books".

Nayeon was hypnotized and maybe stared a little too long so she thought of an answer fast " Oh, yeah, nice" a little pause "It's one of my favourite books too, by the way, what's your name"
The other girl smiled "I'm Momo, Hirai Momo, nice to meet you, Nayeon". Nayeon didn't move for a second, how the did she knew her name. She was starting to get scared.
"I'm sorry that must've been creepy, your book says your name in the front". Momo was right, the book had her name. Nayeon spaced out thinking about how dumb she was but also about how momo knew exactly what she was thinking.
Once again the, seemingly observant, girl interrupted her train of thoughts to ask her some silly question to get to know her. That's how they spent the whole time until the sun went down, talking in the rose garden.

It had been a week since she met Momo and things were going pretty well. Nayeon liked her a lot and she was happier now too. She had taken that hospital depression off her shoulders.

Her parents had noticed that and asked her daily why her smile was brighter than usual. But Nayeon didn't want to tell them about Momo, not yet at least, so she just dodged the question with "It just feels great to be out of the hospital", which wasn't completely untrue.

They had dates in all of Nayeon's favourite places.

Once in a while Nayeon asked her if there was somewhere else she wanted to go instead but the girl always said "wherever you want to go, Nabongs". Momo gave her that nickname, she was the only one who called her like that and it made Nayeon's heart flutter every time she heard it.

But even though Nayeon felt comfortable with their relationship, there were some things that were pocking her on the back of her mind. She never went to Momo's house, not even accompanied her to it. Momo never texted her or called her, not even when Nayeon gave her her phone number, telling the girl to please contact her sometime and having momo agree to that.

But Nayeon liked to ignore those things, thinking momo was just a very private person. And she was fine like that, because Momo made her laugh, she made her see the beauty of life and Nayeon felt how hard she was falling. It was a bittersweet sensation that her body knew all too well. She knew she was ed, she loved Momo. Momo had the power to destroy her, but Nayeon didn't care, she was the happiest she could be right now.

Nayeon touched Momo like she was going to break right in front of her. She had a constant fear of the girl leaving her. At night she was worried Momo would disappear from her life the next day. But every time these thoughts began to arise it seemed like Momo detected it, and she always gave her the same answer "Nabongs, I love you, I won't go anywhere". Nayeon knew it might not be true, but momo said those words watching her straight in the eyes and Nayeon couldn't detect a trace of lie or something that wasn't pure intentions in them.

One night Nayeon was cleanings her room, which she hadn't done since she came back from the hospital. She heard some footsteps and when she turned around, there was a Momo, leaning on her doorframe.

Nayeon was a little shocked, Momo had never come to her house, how did she know where she lived.

"I remembered your house from the times I walked you home and I felt like visiting you tonight. Your parents invited me in, I'll go if you want" There she was once again, knowing exactly what Nayeon was thinking.
"No, please stay. Only if you want to watch me while clean my room" said Nayeon while posing with the broom. "It will be a wild night" Momo laughed.
Momo entertained Nayeon while cleaning, she was truly having a great time.

When Nayeon went to open a drawer to organize its content, Momo appeared in front of her, almost automatically.
Her usually soft expressions were now hardened, darker, she had never seen her like this.

"Don't open that drawer" said Momo trough gritted teeth.

"Why?" Momo didn't answer her question, just repeated the same.

"I'm warning you. Don't. Open. That. Drawer."

Nayeon was getting scared but she wanted to cut the bull so she easily opened the drawer as Momo offered no resistance at all. Inside there were pictures and what appeared to be letters. As Nayeon picked up the first picture her hands began to tremble.

It was Momo and her, in the rose garden. But they never took a photo in there, and the clothes were different than the day they went there. She took out another photo, Momo and her on a coffee shop she doesn't remember she'd been to. They never took pictures together, what the was this.

She turned around only to see emptiness, there was no sign of the girl.

She ran down the stair and asked her parents, who were sitting watching tv, if they saw Momo leave.
Her dad almost choked on the drink he was having and her mother looked like she'd seen a ghost.
"What's going on why are you like this, have you seen Momo leave?" She sounded desperate, her parents were frozen.

Nayeon, still with a picture in her hand, showed it to them "Who is this?"

Her mother was sobbing so her father talked instead "Sweetheart, sit down please" and she did "That was your girlfriend, Momo"

Nayeon was trying to process everything "What do you mean with 'was your girlfriend'?".
"She... she was in the accident with you. She didn't make it."

Nayeon's world started spinning, she didn't know what kind of sick joke were they trying to play or what kind of game was that, but something in her guts told her that it wasn't actually a joke.

"The first days in the hospital you were conscious, but hitting your head so hard on the accident caused you to lose part of your memory, that's why you don't remember anything about it. But it also seemed that you had forgotten about Momo, you never once asked about her or showed signs of knowing she existed. So we thought it would be the best if we didn't tell you anything, it would have been an unnecessary pain, it was as if she was erased from your life, no need to dig on the wounds. Listen Nayeon we're so sorry..."

Nayeon stopped listening, she was furious enough to break every single ing thing there was in that living room, but felt too sick to even stand up. Her parents never told her about her dead girlfriend.

And her mind had created a way to bring her back into her life, just for her to leave again.

Gathering all the strength she could, she stood up and ran to her room, slammed the door shut and just layed in her bed, tears silently falling as she stared blankly at a wall.

Momo was not there, she wasn't real, she was gone. Forever.

The hours passed and Nayeon couldn't catch sleep so, as broken as she was, she went up to the half-opened drawer and started watching the photos, trying to trace any memory of the real Momo she might have.
While she was at that, she observed the letters she had in there were from Momo. It appeared like she liked to travel a lot and always sent Nayeon letters from wherever she was.

The tone of her letters was just as the momo she'd been with since she got out of the hospital, as sweet and witty as her.

She thought her mind maybe wasn't so bad after all, it brought her Momo back, if even for just a moment.

Reading through the letters, a lot of them so funny they could actually get a laugh out of Nayeon, she found a note. It was a big paper but it only contained a few word written on it, she felt the tears rise again as she read it.

"Nabongs, I love you, I won't go anywhere- Momo"
