You Can't Dance

You Can't Dance

She frowned her eyes meeting with the whiteboard. A slow sinking feeling settling into her. She sighed looks like she might not ace dance class for the whole year. Granted she could settle with the fact that it wouldn't be her fault.

She heard his low drawl of a sigh as well as maybe a curse coming from him. But he did his best to hide it. Perhaps it was because he could see her right in front of him. She honestly wondered why he attended this class if he hated it so much. Actually, why did he even come to this school? He always seemed like he had no energy and he never performed.

"Now class settle into your partners," the Teacher said noticing the frown on Lisa's face. "I know some of you don't like who you're paired with. But sometimes you just have to work with what you have."

She settled in a spot in the dance studio waiting for her 'partner' to get his over here. Her eyes wondering over to people she would have preferred being partnered with. Honestly, she wanted to be partnered with J-Hope otherwise known as Hoseok. Mainly because it would've been a fun time at least. Jungkook or Jimin would've been great too, considering they were great dancers.

even Namjoon or Jin would've been better because they honestly try.

"You're not the only one who would've preferred being teamed with Hoseok you know?" He drawled from behind her. His back to the wall as he fiddled with his bag.

She sighed. She was normally seen as a positive and energetic person. But even she knew this was gonna be a hard time. She rubbed her temples.

"Why so he could carry you to pass this class?" she snarked back. A rare thing for her. But Yoongi seemed like the type who would only respect you if you held your ground.

"Princess has bite huh?" He said with a smile. "But for your information. I'm like everyone I prefer to work with friends. Isn't that a normal thing for someone to want?" he said feigning innocence. Or at least that's what it felt like to her. His serious expression seemed to taunt her. She, however, wouldn't fall for it.

"I know it's surprising. How someone like me is friends with Hoseok considering the type of person I am. So I don't blame you," he said his expression softening. Which surprised her somewhat. She was used to seeing him as the hard-faced loner or bad boy type.

"Now I don't expect you guys to get too much done today. But just know that because of the shuffle in scheduling that you only actually have until the end of the week to get your dance routine done instead of the originally planned two to three weeks. So uh, good luck?" He said as he then left the room.

She heard Yoongi curse from behind her. Not that she minded, she honestly thought the same thing.

"So uh," he paused as he started to scratch his ear. "What's the plan?"

"Honestly? I have no god damn clue."

She sighed for the umpteenth time today. Things could've been better. Like if her partner was actually here but he wasn't. Probably god knows where doing who knows what.

However, she started to hear an argument going on in front of the dance studio she was standing in.

"What the is this Youngbae?" he said obviously sounding mad.

"You know there's only so much I can do and please don't call me that on campus," Taeyang replied calmly much to the grumbling of the other person. However, it caused the other person to at least quieten down. So much so she couldn't actually hear what he was saying. She was curious enough that she moved closer to the door to hear better.

"You also know you're gonna have to perform this time considering it's your summative assignment," Taeyang said solemnly a hint of regret hidden in his voice. He seemed to really care about his students.

She heard a sigh come from right in front of the door before there was a rattle of the doorknob. Making her quickly move to avoid the suspicion of her eavesdropping.

"Uh, nice of you to finally come," she said trying her best to hide the surprise and tension in her voice. He seemed to pick up on as he slowly raised his eyebrow in question.

"Yeaaaah, well anyway I'm actually twenty minutes late. I'm surprised you're not mad," He said obviously cautious of her wrath. Which only surprised her. She'd always heard of him being such an yet a badass. It was weird to see a softer side.

"I mean at least you turned up right?" She said with a smile and a chipper tune. Which only seemed to put the older male more on edge. He inhaled deeper and she watched as his face hardened into what she considered more of Yoongi's image.

"You're ed you know that right?" He said the lazy drawl returning to his voice. It was weird seeing him shift right in front of his eyes. "I ing hate dancing you know that right?"

She frowned. It felt like an attack on her. After all, dance was her life. Sure she could understand people disliking it. But hearing those words with the amount of venom that Yoongi's voice held.

It hurt.

"Then why do you take it then if you hate it so much?" She said calmly biting back at the need to say rapping . Not that she'd seen him rap he tended to stick to himself quite a bit. Only a few people had seen him rap. Those being Namjoon and a couple of the teachers.

He groaned in response. Not in the way she expected, however. Instead of a sign of frustration, it was more of like a balloon deflating. A defeated sort of noise.

"I don't wanna be friends with you, Lisa," he stated. Those words should've held animosity. But it was more like a blank statement holding no emotion. It was odd.

She paused. "That wasn't what I was asking Yoongi."

"You think I don't know that? But I know the type of girl you are. Polite, energetic and funny. I don't wanna deal with you," He stated, a certain odd firmness in his voice. Perhaps if she had known the boy longer she'd know what he's hiding and what that truly meant.

She tilted her head at his statement. It would seem he'd let things spill if they were friends.

"Are we gonna start this train wreck or what kiddo?" He said his eyebrows knitting together in his lack of patience.

"...Yeah, I suppose so. Is there any dances you're good at by any chance Yoongi?" She asked. The thought hitting her like a brick. That was a dumb thing to ask. He looked at agape like she just said the dumbest thing.

"I'm gonna pretend like you didn't ask me a question like that. Like seriously? What do you expect me to say? Well uh, I learnt the cha cha when I was six years old. With each style of dance, I learnt it become easier and easier to learn another style like some of Avatar, master of six billion or so dancing styles." He ranted his voice cracking for comedic effect. She couldn't help but laugh at his joke.

However, when she next went to look at him he was dangerously close. His arm slamming to the right side of her head hitting the wall.

"Also you should stop calling me Yoongi. If someone hears you they might get the wrong idea. Call me Suga."

He hadn't shown for any of the practices. Every single time she even caught sight of him he would disappear like a ghost or a mirage. That's what frustrated her. His constant disappearance. As a result, she soon came to practice by herself. Perfecting her craft with intricate movements. She'd show him the strength of the craft known as dance. Sure he'd be ed but she'd explain it to the tutor/teacher Taeyang. He'd come to understand.

Hopefully.

Yet she couldn't help but frown. Which was odd for her. Given she was used to the comfort of herself and not relying on someone else. It was weird the longing for a partner in her dance. Granted the dance she choreographed required a male participant. She made it in order for him shriek in response if he ever turned up to dance practice. For that is what he gets for not turning up.

She was chilling in the cafeteria her friend Rosé approaching her sensing her bad mood and overall anger due to the lack of safety and reliance on her partner. Who should've been attending the practices. So much so that she went to the office to get his phone number to text the bloody bastard.

Yet he never turned up.

She couldn't help but frown at the possibility of getting a failure in dance class. Her score so far had been immaculate and perfect so far.

However, Rosé gave her the idea to find Namjoon since they were always seen together.

She tried to find Namjoon after all he was the anchor that kept him in class. Kind of like a ghost's anchor to reality. She quickly found the male reading an English literature book. The dude sure knew how to study that was sure. She approached him quietly from behind in hopes that he wouldn't run away like Yoongi would all the time.

As soon as she was sure she was close enough that he wouldn't be able to make a get away she opened to speak. Only to hear the sudden creak of his chair as it gave out from underneath him suddenly giving her a fright as well as a groan from him. His head hitting the floor with a solid thud but rather than a grunt of pain he just sighed in response. Obviously, he was used to such things happening as he decided to keep reading. She lightly coughed in response which caused him to move the book from his line of sight.

"Hey there Lisa,"  he greeted with a sweet smile as if him lying on the floor amongst the remains of his chair. "What's up?"

"Not your chair apparently," she joked with a smile. He couldn't help but chuckle in response as he quickly got up. "I'm looking for Yoongi actually, do you know where he is?"

"Not at this exact moment no, I could try giving him a ring but he typically doesn't answer during school. Something about an unspoken rule about him." He added as he grabbed his phone out just in case.

"No need I've already tried. I got his number from the office in hopes of getting him to come to practice," she pointed out in response, a frown settling into her face.

"He's probably trying to talk to Taeyang to get out of the assignment," he said with a sigh rubbing his face with his palm. He obviously didn't seem pleased with his friend's course of action.

"You don't seem pleased," she pointed out. "Does he do this often?"

"Surprisingly no actually," he said thinking back, though he did seem to have a close relationship with their teacher Taeyang. "Honestly though the only factor that is different is you, Lisa."

Immediately after the words left his mouth he wanted to punch himself in the nose. Especially when he saw the younger girl's reaction to such words.

"So he doesn't wanna do it because of me? Well, him too," despite her words they only seemed to hold sadness instead of any actual anger. She quickly left in a hurry only for Namjoon to mentally kick himself.

The days quickly went by without incident she had stopped getting the stubborn boy to practice with her. Only sweat and frustration driving her through her movements with practised finesse and poise. She was gonna rock this without him. Her body moving perfectly in time to the music hitting each and every beat perfectly.

Can we, we keep, keep each other company?
Maybe we can be, be each other's company
Oh, company

Her body going through the motions as Taeyang acted as her mock partner. However, he didn't dare get to close to her as choreography demanded mainly because he felt uncomfortable being so close to a student. However, he practised the moves nonetheless after all he'd have to teach someone if Yoongi wasn't gonna turn up.

Let's set each other's lonely nights
Be each other's paradise
Need a picture for my frame

Part of her was glad that Yoongi hadn't been turning up to practice because while she initially made choreo out of spite. It would've been awkward teaching him nonetheless. It would've been awkward if it was anyone besides Hoseok honestly. Mind you she was outside of the physically intimate parts for now.

Someone to share my reign
Tell me what you wanna drink
I tell you what I got in mind
Oh, I don't know your name
But I feel like that's gonna change

Taeyang stared down at her awkwardly as he did the biggest hoverhand he could. He honestly couldn't be any further away from her without making this practice entirely unproductive. However, he was proud of her choreography skills it matched the tone and beat of the music. However, it did demand quite a bit of chemistry to perfect. He couldn't help but feel she made this to spite Yoongi if he ever made it to a practice. Which made him laugh ever so slightly.

Which caused Lisa to stop abruptly before he apologized. "My bad Lisa but I'm pretty sure I know enough to teach someone the Choreo. I'll just check out of the boys who are finished and I'll teach one of them. Plus I'll get them to practice with Chungha since she's staying late today. You can go home and rest up for your assignment tomorrow." He said with a smile. He obviously seemed pleased with her work. But she couldn't tell if she was relieved she won't have to do it with Yoongi or regretful that she had caused him to not want to participate.

She mulled around the school after-hours too inside her head to head home. She decided to head towards the library when she heard footsteps and a familiar voice talking.

"Hopefully she finished already," he contemplated to himself. "Hopefully she'll be able to pass now at least."

She heard him heave a sigh as he entered the room only to quickly lock it behind him avoiding any potential confrontation between the two of them. Putting her mood into enough of a sour that she headed straight home.

She frowned at the boy in front of her sweat sticking to his face profusely. Normally she'd be attracted to such a sight especially with his raspy intonations. But she couldn't help but sigh in frustration.

"Why am I even here Yoongi?" She demanded eyebrows knit together in frustration. She could've been doing anything right now. Hell, she could've been sleeping for her upcoming assignment. After all, she didn't need to be here this earlier. Honestly, she didn't need to be here at all.

"Because I need your help?" he pointed out matter of factly with a teasing smile.

Which only caused her to groan in response. "You know you wouldn't be in this problem if you went to practice," she mocked back rubbing her tired eyes. This boy. "Plus didn't you talk to Taeyang?"

"He's already done his best. Now I need your help Chungha," he pleaded with a sad look on her face.

"You know you gotta promise me you're gonna get over this schtick of yours right now," She pointed out with a firm smile.

"Schtick?" He asked obviously not understanding what she meant by it.

"You know what I mean. The reason why you don't dance in front of your class."

"This is all part and parcel my friend," he responded with a victorious smile as they got to work.

Honestly, the worst was he didn't even really need her help. He just wanted to be doubly sure.

Lisa woke up barely in time to make it to class. Thankfully she was set to be one of the last performing something she had set up back when she thought Yoongi would be participating. Just in case they needed to do some last minute practice runs.

However, her heart sunk into her stomach when saw a familiar person outside the dance building. Having a smoke nonetheless. She couldn't help but frown when she saw him.

What was she even going to say to him?

"Why so sad princess?" He said with a small grin tugging at his lips as he inhaled the smoke.

Had he just come to taunt her? The fact that she couldn't convince him to join her in her favourite art form.

"Why're you here Yoongi? I looked all over for you," she said her frown deepening, after all, no one likes being ignored.

He seemed taken aback slightly at her words even dropping his smoke.

"I was gonna wish you good luck and I figured you'd be happier since Taeyang finally gave in and gave you a new partner," he said seemingly at a lost.

"Only friends wish each other good luck Suga," she added switching to Suga after remembering their prior conversation. She quickly decided to walk into the building choosing to avoid talking to him further.

"I don't wanna be your friend Lisa," he muttered to himself after she left. He honestly hated seeing some so energetic interact with someone like him. A recluse who only seemed to make them frown.

Only before sending a text did he decide to go into the building.

Looks like everything was in place.

Not that he really wanted to do this.

Her heart jumped into at Taeyang's words.

"I'm sorry but it seems that Hoseok is actually late today. Which means you'll have to perform next. I know I promised that you'd get to perform last but I'll make it up to you. I promise I'll pull whatever strings I can with your score," He added obviously apologetic for everything. She couldn't be mad at him, after all, it was outside of his control. She was just glad to have such a nice teacher like him.

It was best to not look at the bead side of things. After all, she could only deal with the here and now. "What about my partner?" She asked firmly.

"About that..." He said with an obvious frown belaying even more bad news. "Hoseok was to be your partner."

That's when her world came crashing down around her, not unlike Namjoon's chair the other day. The anxiety flooding into her bones with a torrent like that of an unstoppable tsunami.

"I'll allow you to freestyle if that help?" he offers hopefully but the look in her eyes only portray surmounting anxiety with that suggestion. Normally she'd have been fine doing that. But she was finding it hard to breathe with all the sudden changes.

That's when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

A sigh coming from behind her before he finally spoke. His voice mirroring the same anxiety she felt. But yet there was an underlying courage.

"You better give her a good score Teach," he said as he pulled her into position. She entirely surprised to see him in the building let alone in class.

It was probably thanks to the melting pot of emotion that was her brain that she listened to him. Her anxiety mixing in with surprise until the familiar beat started playing, soothing her soul as she relaxed to the music.

Can we, we keep, keep each other company?
Maybe we can be, be each other's company
Oh, company

Her body moving naturally to the rhythm as Yoongi stalked ever so closer to her moving form and his face was mere millimetres from her face. Her eyes connecting with his in beautiful and she couldn't help but smile as she turned away from him. As they both walked in sync before the bass kicked in.

Let's set each other's lonely nights
Be each other's paradise

Their movement in sync with every beat as he danced alongside her. As he started to prove himself. Maybe she would've been impressed if he wasn't behind her right now as his arm framed her figure. All she could see was him hitting the moves on time before she spun around.

Need a picture for my frame
Someone to share my reign

It was not long before they dancing side by side as he moved in perfect sync. Which made her begin to wonder why he was always lumped in with Jin and RM.  It was evident through the passion in his movements that he loved music.

Tell me what you wanna drink
I tell you what I got in mind

He gradually crouched down to the beat with practised precision. Her body rolling to the swell of the bass. She was only able to pick up on his movements for the brief second her arm flew over his head but he was killing it. His bad boy aura was really working for him here. She surprised at the sudden skin to skin contact with her hand. Her body slowly turning around to with rhythm with the contact.

Oh, I don't know your name
But I feel like that's gonna change

His hand quickly grazing her knee at the snap of the beat. Only for him to slowly stand at full suddenly as his other hand trailed her waist. Her hand slowly snaking its way around his neck as he moved his face ever so close to hers. A smirk gracing his face as he stared into her eyes which left her more than a little flustered on the inside. She'd blame it on being so surprised. She was thankful for the turn separating the two of them. Her eyes trailing his form with a smile before getting into the next section. Even if she did kinda miss his close proximity.

You ain't gotta be my lover for you to call me "baby"
Never been around, no pressure. Ain't that serious?

The two of them moving in sync with stunning form. She couldn't help smile as she moved closer to Yoongi. She really enjoying herself as well as his passion.

Can we, we keep, keep each other company?

She just hoped he did alright on this section since she couldn't see him behind her. But judging from the cheers she doubted he ed up. She began to feel the familiar presence of his hand on her shoulders as they moved in tandem. His hand quickly trailing her back as she leaned down. Her body slowly rising as she began to feel his breath on her cheek and the scent of vanilla, which betrayed the cigarette earlier. She enjoyed the warmth of him being so close as he turned her around before quickly flipping her to the ground with a surprise show of strength from the skinny. She felt safe in his arms for those rare few moments.

Maybe we can be, be each other's company

Cheers emanating from around them as she maintained her pose with grace.

Oh, company

He quickly got up to walk towards her seated position to the rhythm. Before doing a quick twirl and meeting her on the floor. His fingers touch her chin as they slow rose together. His eyes staring down into her with a cocky smile and she honestly didn't wanna see anything else. It was like everything was slowing down around them. Her eyes focusing on him as she gripped his shoulders and moved her hips to rhythm. Cheers exploding from around them. As well as the odd that's my boy from Hoseok.

Their bodies quickly snapped to the rhythm of the beat as they followed her Choreo to the exact second.

It ain't about the complications

The music was slowly winding down as they separated and she rested against the wall. Because it was thankfully over. She was glad to see him dance and well.

I'm all about the elevation.

Or at least that's what she thought until Chungha's idea flashed in his eyes as he gave the crowd a knowing smirk before rushing over to the girl. Hiding her from everyone's sight with the beat. Her body automatically reacted to sell what he was going for. Her eyes locking with his causing her to react compulsively and kiss the male deeply as she'd never before. Surprising him before he responded with equal force. Cheers exploding out in surprise.

Little did she know it wasn't his passion for music driving him to dance. It was his passion for her.

He did say after all he didn't want to be friends with her.
