I stole a pack of gum from the corner shop by the arcade. Kibum taught me how to minimise my movements, to watch for the moment when the shopkeeper ahjussi was distracted with other customers. Luhan created a distraction at the right moment. Jonghyun congratulated me when we made it out, and we shared the gum between ourselves on the beach.

Once I learnt to steal, I couldn’t stop.

I took things from tourists; a note or two from their wallets as they baked themselves on the beach like the potatoes I still had to peel for them every day, a watch here, a bracelet there.

I never did it at the pension though.

One day, I stole a can of beer and drank it by the beach after midnight, when there wasn’t a chance of being caught by my mother or sisters. The full moon was clear in the sky and all of a sudden, I thought of you. I remembered the night we sat on the balcony, when you told me you could summon dolphins, and I wondered whether you were sitting on some other beach, looking up at the same moon and remembering the same thing.
