CHAPTER EIGHT
“Hyejinnie!”   “Oh! Jung Wheein!”   The two best friends greeted each other with a hug and a smile as they walked into a cafe together. The two short girls giggled and laughed like always.   “We haven’t seen each other in a while. You seem busy Hyejin-ah.”   Hyejin formed a peace sign with her right hand and moved it from left to right with a smile.   “That’s good, if it looks like I’m busy it means that I’m making money.”   Wheein shook her head and laughed. She crossed her legs and leaned on them. Hyejin and Wheein normally have weekly best friend lunch dates, but last week they had to cancel because Hyejin had to go abroad for a bit, but now she’s back with a new tan.   “What have you been doing lately Wheeinie?”   Wheein knitted her eyebrows and pretended like she was thinking hard about what she did, while in reality she's trying to think about something that’s not too weird to tell Hyejin.   “Don’t tell me you haven’t been doing anything.”   Wheein waved two hands in front of Hwasa, shaking her head wildly.   “No, no! Of course not, I just spaced out for a second. I’m catching up with Sooyeon unnie and Soojung unnie and also finding out things about things from the past.”   “Like?”   Wheein froze. She drove herself in the corner like this? What should she say, like—   “Is it better that it’s back in the present rather than that it stayed in the past?”   Wheein looked at Hyejin with a sad smile, before looking down and shaking her head at her hands.   “This time, I’m not that sure anymore Hyejin-ah.”   Hyejin put her hand on Wheein’s shoulder and squeezed into it.   “The Wheein that I know always works hard for things to change her way.”   They smiled at each other, in the way that old friends do.   -0-0-0-0-   Lee Jinki was sitting in his office when General Nichkhun came in with a closed black envelope. It was not a normal kind of black, it was the type of black that didn’t even reflect a single beam of light, but it all in and it even looked like Nichkhun’s hands could disappear in the envelope.   “Jinki. I think this is yours.”   Jinki nodded and took the envelope in his hands. He looked for an opening, or just something he could tear open but couldn’t find anyhting. Nichkhun watched as Jinki examined the envelope. Jinki’s eyes turned golden as he stared at the envelope, until he suddenly found the opening and pulled it. The envelope opened in one whole piece of yellowed paper, parchment almost. The letters were written in some kind of dark red and both vampires could smell the human blood coming off of it.   “Read it aloud.”   “Gregario Callisto. I expect you by your lake next week at full moon. You are only allowed to bring one spectator. I am a man of my word, and I hope you are too. I will be waiting, Cerberus Nachtzehrer.”   The letter disappeared as Jinki finished reading and Nichkhun sat down in the chair in front of Jinki’s desk.   “So, what lake is he talking about?”   Jinki gulped and looked Nichkhun in his eyes.   “The lake where I died.”   -0-0-0-0-   Wheein stretched out her legs over Soojung’s as they are sitting on Jessica’s couch and they were waiting for their order of fried chicken. The doorbell rang and Wheein practically ran to the door in her pyjamas, opening it, only to find Nichkhun standing in his uniform. He bowed to Wheein and smiled.   “Wheein-ssi, I’m sorry for this abrupt visit but I’m looking for Jessica.”   Wheein nodded and motioned for Nichkhun to come in.   “Uhh, please give me a second, I’ll get her.”   “Thank you. Also, I’ve been meaning to ask you whether you have accepted our offer yet.”   Wheein nervously shuffled on her socks and shook her head timidly.   “Sorry, I’m still thinking about it.”   Nichkhun smiled an understanding smile.   “Wheein-ah, who is it? Wasn’t it the chicken man? Oh! Khun oppa!”   Soojung walked towards Nichkhun and gave him a hug. She pointed at Nichkhun and smiled at Wheein.   “I’m glad I don’t have to call him General outside of the office, you know he used to work out with Sooyeon unnie all the time! It would’ve been awkward.”   They both laughed and looked at each other. Wheein turned around to walk to Jessica’s room but bumped into a body instead.   “Wheein-ah, please watch out.”   “Oh unnie! I was just going to get you. The General is here.”   Nichkhun laughed and lightly waved his free hand. His other hand held his General’s jacket and looked very heavy with the shining badges.   “Khun oppa, good to see you! What brings you here?”   Nichkhun’s eyes turned sharp as he looked at Jessica and took off his shoes.   “We need to talk, is your apartment sealed?”   Jessica raised one eyebrow as she nodded and snapped her fingers.
