Chapter One " No." This word was certainly not the first word she would have guessed that the first human she's met in over 6 years would utter. It was curt, blunt, and to the point. The voice was filled with rasp and sleep deprivation as the voice owner opened the screened in door wide. The owner had curly dark brown hair that bounced against his forehead as he weakly rubbed the crust from the inner corners of his eyes. He was dressed in black slacks, a classic white tee and house slippers. One eye peaked out from under his heavy eyelids locking down onto her petite figure that stood on the mosquito infested porch at the crack of dawn in the humid air of Clarkstown, Mississippi. She could barely register the small word that left the now scowling lips of the home owner before he rudely slammed the porch door shut and quickly locking it from the inside. Confused and startled, it took a moment for the young girl to process what had just occured seconds before hand. The first human she's seen since the plague broke had just slammed the door in her face without a second thought. "Excuse me!" Banging on the door seemed like a good idea. " Are you out of your mind." He hissed. Taking a good look at his surrounding before stepping a bit back inside the security of his screen in door. " You'll wake the dead." It hadn't occured to her that she was making the loudest noise of all upon the dirt road. The only other sounds being the sounds of toads croaking and lightning bugs buzzing in the air. " Sorry." She mumbled as he cursed under his breathe. The toothpick that hung down to the side of his mouth twitched at every syllable spoken. "Get off my property." He ordered before turning to go back inside until a hand softly grabbed his arm in protest. " Please, I have no where else to go. Your the only living person i've seen in a while." She made sure to leave out the part about how she has to pee and the nearest store is a gas station 3 miles back.He sighed having an internal battle in the back of his about the pro and cons of a new addition. " How old are you?" He asked as he eyed her up and down which made her cower back nervously. " 17, Sir." She stuttered. He continued comtemplating and weighing his options; He could kill you and leave you like road ki
