The girl whose name was called was currently tidying her locker when she heard that familiar voice calling her name. Turned to her left, She caught a sight of someone running at her direction, and she realized that it was none other than Lee Byunghun, or L.joe he likes to be called by most of people.

Slamming her locker door, she grabbed her books for the next period rapidly, and ran faster before L.joe could catch her. She ran and ran without looking at her direction, since her mind was only filled with thoughts of running away from L.joe. Unfortunately, soon she bumped into someone and both of them fell to the ground. Panicking, she immediately stood up and was about to ask if the other person was okay when she realized whom she just bumped with.

“Sohyun? Why it seems that you were in such a rush?” asked CAP, one of L.joe’s close friends who is one year older than her.

“Minsoo sunbae.. erm….” Sohyun replied, hesitating to answer his question.

In mere seconds, the familiar voice that still calling for her name was heard again. This time, she was sure that he had alreadybeen closer to where she was standing. Hurriedly, she packed her books and started to quicken her pace again.

“Sohyun-ah! What’s wrong? Why are you avoiding me?” L.joe’s voice called her and she could sense some sadness in it. She stopped walking, and without turning around, she answered him.

“No reason Byunghun. I just want to be alone for some time.”

“You’re lying! Tell me, what did I do wrong this time?”

“I said you’ve done nothing wrong! Really, I just want to be alone, that’s all. When I finally refreshed my mind, I’ll be my usual self again so please let me be alone this time, at least for today. I’m going first,” that was all she said and she left afterwards. This time, L.joe didn’t run after her. If that’s what she wanted, there’s nothing he could do about it.

“What’s wrong with you guys?” CAP spoke out. He had been wondering what’s happening between his friend and his girl of his dreams since he heard what they talked about a moment ago.

“Hyung, I also don’t know,” L.joe choked out, sighing.

“Did you do something terrible to her? Made her cry perhaps?”

“Of course not! How can I make her cry?” he snapped out at the older one’s statement. CAP walked closer and patted his friend’s shoulder.

“Then just let her be first. You still have tomorrows to run after her, don’t be so upset okay?”

“I know, it’s just… I can’t figure out what’s on her mind,” L.joe replied.

“She’s a girl. Of course you couldn’t always know what’s on her mind, could you? Come on, Chunji and the others have been waiting for us for quite some time in the cafetaria now,” CAP smiled and walked before him. L.joe took a slight look at Sohyun who has now walking far away from the spot before he turned his body and followed his hyung to where his friends at.

Through that day, all L.joe did was just spacing out. His mind kept wandering what happened to Sohyun and what might he had done to her. He was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn’t even hear what his friends were talking about. He also spaced out during his favorite subject, P.E lesson. It was supposed to be the basketball match today and he was looking forward to it so much, but all he did was just spacing out to the point his team lost a lot of points.

“Yah! L.joe! What are you doing??” their P.E teacher, Mr. Kang yelled at him

“Ye, seongsaenim?” he answered lightly.

“Look at that many points that you have lost already! I’m taking marks for this you know, what’s wrong with you?”

“Erm.. I just don’t feel really well today. Can I call a break?”

With that, L.joe left the field and walked to where his friends at. He took his towel and wiped his sweat. He also took his water bottle out of his sports bag and sat beside Niel and Chunji, who were both classmates with him. Mr. Kang could only sigh looking at the troublesome boy, and replaced him with another student, then resumed the match.

“Look at who have turned crazy because of certain girl,” Niel said to his friend, and Chunji couldn’t help but agreed to the statement.

“Yah! I’m not crazy okay? I’m just…”

“Just what?” Niel spoke again.

“Aish, molla! You guys are so annoying!” L.joe messed his hair in frustration, indicating he’s been in a really confuse state.

“Whoa whoa, you just came here disturbing us and then you say we’re annoying?” Chunji replied.

“Mian, I don’t mean it that way, it’s just…”

“I know, you don’t have to explain,” and this time Chunji patted his shoulder lightly, giving him a little support while chuckling.

“Er, yah, L.joe, look who’s been looking at you there,” suddenly Niel elbowed him to make him look at certain direction.

To his surprised, there she was, standing and looking straight at him from quite close distance. Kwon Sohyun, the girl that had turned his world upside down since the day he met her. The one that had made him believed for love at first sight, the one that is just so wonderful to him, and the one who had been on his mind all day.

She looked at him, he looked at her. They exchanged glances without spoke any utter words for few seconds. She was still holding her books, seemed like she’s going to chemistry class since the chemistry lab was just right next to the basketball field. Awkward silence filled them both before her words surprised him.

“I don’t know what’s happening to you Byunghun, but as I said before, you’ve done nothing wrong. But if you failed on today’s match, then consider it that I won’t talk to you anymore,” She said and walked away.

L.joe was still stoned in his spot because of her words before he finally snapped back to reality. Stood up, he put his water bottle and towel back to his gym bag and skedaddled his way to the P.E teacher.

“Yah seongsaenim! Can I ask for a re-match?” he asked, and the teacher smirked at his student’s statement. He nodded and L.joe entered the field again, getting himself ready for the game.

“He’s really crazy because of her,” Chunji spoke out, and Niel couldn’t agree more.

It was a sunny day when they first met with each other. It was a long weekend for the high-schoolers, since they didn’t have any lesson on Saturday, and it was a public holiday on Monday afterwards. It was Saturday and L.joe and his friends decided to hang out a bit. They had agreed to try the new game centre that had just opened recently and they were really excited about it. As soon as the boys arrived at the game centre, they made their ways to the basketball game. Having a match by playing 6 machines at the same time, the boy sure had a lot of fun. After that, they went to the dance machine, and the boys cheering as CAP and Changjo had their own match of dance, which was actually won by Changjo, who also well-known as the “dancing boy”.

They were playing common games in the game centre before one machine caught Chunji’s eyes. The machine’s name caught his attention. It was “magic box” game machine. Chunji approached the machine and smirked, it was his favorite kind of game, puzzles. The other boys who realized Chunji had glued his eyes on a certain machine approached him.

“What kind of game is this hyung?” Ricky asked Chunji, who was still showing his smirk.

“It’s magic box game. You know, it kinds of similar with rubix cube,” he said and the other boys oh-ed him. An idea suddenly popped out in his mind as he smirked even more.

“Yah, L.joe, I bet you couldn’t beat me on this game,” he said, pointing at his dongsaeng.

“Oh really? And what if I won?” the boy countered back at him, smirking himself.

“I’ll treat you bulgogi afterwards. But if you lose, you’re the one that supposed to treat me then,” Chunji replied.

“Deal, keep your promise Lee Chanhee,” L.joe said and high-fived him. The others were rather amused. Chunji is well-known as the one who like puzzles and this kind of things a lot. It would be easy for him to beat L.joe who doesn’t have any interest in it at all.

“I’m on Chunji hyung’s side. I really don’t think you could beat him in this game, L.joe hyung,” Ricky stated and walked his way towards Chunji’s side.

“Count me too,” Niel also walked away. L.joe turned his head to see CAP and Changjo stood next to him.

“Well, just give your best, L.joe,” CAP said and Changjo nodded.

“Go for it hyung! Who knows, you might win it!” Chanjo said, and the game started.

Chunji went for the first round first. He started typing the buttons in the machine to solve the game. After a while, the game ended, and his score were quite high. He smiled in satisfaction and aside himself to the right side of the machine. Then, the next round was L.joe’s turn. Putting the game tokens in, he started the game. He quickly pressed the buttons on the machine to solve the game, and it was rather amusing for all of them. The game then ended soon enough and to everybody’s surprises, L.joe won. His score was slightly higher from Chunji’s.

“Assa!” he said and Changjo raised one of his own hands, claiming victory for his hyung.

The three boys on the other side gasped, and L.joe shared a brotherly high-fived with CAP, who was standing on the left side of the machine. CAP and Changjo were still cheering when suddenly L.joe’s eyes glued on to something. Someone, to be exact.

In front of him was a girl, with her short light-brown hair and bangs that covered some of her face. She was looking up to the game machine she was playing, checking her score. A smile crept on her face as soon as she saw her score and then she moved to another machine next to it. She grabbed the plastic hammer, put her token in, and pressed the start button. She was excitedly playing this “hit the mice” game without noticing that L.joe was starring at her. Seeing the girl smiled excitedly, L.joe couldn’t help but smiling himself. He was lost in his own world that he didn’t realize the girl already finished playing. The girl turned her head to the left and caught L.joe starring at her

“Erm.. excuse me.. do you want to play this?” she asked him slightly, but there was no response.

“Err, excuse me? Hello?” she asked again, this time, she waved her hand in front of his face. Like a lightning, L.joe snapped back to reality.

“Uh..huh? Mworago?” He said, startled.

“I was asking if you want to play this game, since you’ve been starring at me while I was playing it,” the girl simply replied.

“Huh? Ah no, no. It just seems it was so exciting to you so I took a glance,” he said nervously while rubbing the back of his head with his left hand, and his right hand on his jeans pocket.

“Haha yes, that’s my favorite game here,” she said again, smiling. This time, L.joe decided to take the initiative. He pulled his right hand out of his pocket and offered his hand to her.

“I’m Lee Byunghun by the way, but you can just call me L.joe,” he said. The girl shook her hand with his and replied.

“I’m Kwon Sohyun, nice to meet you Byunghun-sshi. Looks like your friends waiting for you?” she said and pointed behind him. L.joe turned around and found his friends were all smirking at him.

“Aish, you’re right. Nice to meet you too Sohyun-sshi, I must get going first. Hope to meet you again next time,” he said and hurriedly to his friends side, but didn’t forget to wave at her. As soon as L.joe reached the boy’s side, the boys elbowed him, making a fuss and asking who was that girl.

It’s not taking a long time before L.joe met Sohyun again and found out that they attended the same high school and grades, only they belonged in different classrooms. And since that time, his life had changed completely.

Days passed by and Sohyun still kept avoiding him. L.joe couldn’t really think of anything besides making horror imaginations of Sohyun found another man that is better than him himself. He kept thinking how to at least fix his relationship with Sohyun, but every time they met, Sohyun would just avoided to look at his face and ran away from him.

L.joe had also tried to call her many times, asking her what’s wrong and hoped to get any answers from the girl, because she used to always pick up his calls whenever he called her back ago. However, the calls were always rejected, and L.joe couldn’t do anything besides sighing as he heard the reject tone countless times.

Sometimes, L.joe would close his eyes and thought deeply, why is he becoming like this just because of one girl. She wasn’t the only girl that he had met in his life. She wasn’t even that popular. She was cute for him indeed, but he knew himself it’s not just that. It’s about something else. Something inside her that always mesmerized him. Something inside her that just by looking at her smile, his mood would lighten up in no time. That is the thing inside her that he couldn’t see at any other girl. That is the thing that made him loved her more than anything else in this world.

It hasn't even hit me - since you are not by my side

It was really like hell to him. He found himself empty without her by his side. Of course, sometimes she’s just annoying like any other girls, with her squeals and clumsiness all around. But now, after she’s no longer by his side, he missed those annoying traits of her. He missed her high-pitch squeals, he missed her clumsiness that made her tripped into something most of times. But most of all, he missed her.

“You should just come in front of her face and fix the problem,” he remembered CAP hyung said to him. All his friends were also concerned with his current state that always spacing out and sighing a lot, because it’s not the L.joe that they always knew before.

“Get a hold of yourself and go after her, hyung,” Ricky suddenly popped out in front of him. He was surprised to see him and the others already sitting beside him on the cafetaria. Since when did they come?

“I’m sure your feelings will reach her, as long as you really mean it,” Niel implied.

“Guys…” L.joe tried to choke out words. He was touched at what his friends were saying.

“Oh come on L.joe! Enough with that sadness in your eyes! Where did our bad-boy L.joe go?” he earned a light smack on the back of his head. It hurts a bit. Furiously he turned around to find Chunji smirking at him. At usual rates, L.joe would stand up and back smacking Chunji, but this time, he kept quiet and preferred to just glare at his friend.

“By the way, isn’t today noona’s job to tidy the classroom after school?” this time, it’s the magnae Changjo who spoke out. L.joe widen his eyes at the statement.

“Meaning she should be all alone in the classroom now, right magnae?” Niel said again. The others exchanged glances each other and then looked at L.joe, smiling.

“So what are you waiting for, Lee Byunghun?” this time CAP asked him, while offering his hand in front of the younger one’s face. L.joe starred at CAP’s hand for a few moments, before a slight smile crept on his face. Making up his mind, he tossed CAP’s hand and stood up on his own.

“You’re right hyung, guys. I’m going to face her no matter what,” he said, smiling. The boys smiled at him and L.joe packed his bag then ran his way out of the cafetaria, to where Sohyun’s class is.

As soon as L.joe reached his destination, he opened the classroom door rapidly. Eyeing the classroom which seems to be empty, he found the figure he’s been looking for at the back row of the class, sitting at the chair near the window, looking up to the sky, with her headphone dangling around her neck.

“Sohyun-ah,” he spoke out, and the girl jolted in surprise. She turned her gaze and found his eyes that are still looking at her.

“Byunghun..” she managed to choke out his name in surprise. The boy walked closer to her spot while still trying to catch his breath from running all the way to the classroom. He approached her and to his relief, she didn’t run away this time.

“Seems you have done with your duty. Can I… walk you home?” he asked hesitantly. Sohyun stayed silence, but she nodded her head a bit afterwards.

L.joe smiled in relief when he saw her nodded. He took a sit in front of her and looked at her while she was packing her things. She took off her headphones and put it on her small bag, then stood up after she finished with everything.

“Shall we go now then?” He asked again, standing up himself. All Sohyun did was just nodding her head, but that was enough for L.joe. He let her walked first then followed her behind.

Through their way back home, it was filled with total silence and awkwardness. L.joe had tried several times to open his mouth, but nothing came out. Sohyun would also kept walking without turning her head back at him and didn’t spoke any utter words. It was really awkward and he couldn’t stand it anymore.

“Sohyun-ah, do you hate me?” he finally managed a sentence at her. For sure, he was afraid at the answer that she might throw at him, but he decided to cool down and waited for her answer.

“No,” that was all she said, holding onto her bag’s strap tightly. She kept walking and they were now walking at Han River’s side. The LRT station where she usually took the train to reach her area was just few meters away.

L.joe stopped walking, and loosen his black scarf that was protecting him from the cold weather. He was getting ready with his words. Looking up from the ground, he gazed his eyes on her back figure, and spoke out.

“Hey, do you want to be my girlfriend?”

His words made Sohyun’s eyes widen in surprise. She stopped walking and frozen in her state. L.joe who just confessed to her was still gazing at her, waiting for her reply worriedly. She bit her lower lip and was about to turn around to look at him after she made up her mind when she heard another footsteps coming around.

Closing her eyes, she tightened her grip on her bag’s strap. She opened her eyes again and a word escaped from .

“No.” and with that she walked again without turning around. This time, she quickened her pace so he couldn’t catch her.

L.joe smirked in sadness.

Is it really the end? Does he really have to give up?

He was still looking sadly to the ground while tighten his grip on his backpack’s strap on his right shoulder when he heard a voice called for him.

“L.joe,” The boy turned around and found all of his friends there.

Chunji, the one who called him earlier looked sorry to him as he rubbed the back of his neck hesitantly. Ricky, who stood in front of Chunji, also took a glance at L.joe and then looked up to the skies, avoiding the nervousness, while CAP who was wearing his favorite cap gazed his eyes on the river’s view. Changjo and Niel were also seemed looking at the ground awkwardly.

Seeing his friends acting all awkward, L.joe somehow knew what they meant. Turning his head once more, he looked at Sohyun’s figure that had been walking far from him.

Is he going to end it like this? Is it really the best ending he could have with Sohyun?

No. He made up his mind. This is not the end. Tighten his grip on his backpack’s strap, L.joe started running towards Sohyun’s direction, hoped to catch her pace soon before one of his friends could speak any words to him.

L.joe ran as fastest as he could to the LRT station. Buying the one-way ticket to Apgujeong -Sohyun’s house area- hurriedly, he ran all the way to the platform. When he saw Sohyun entering the train, he quickened his pace more and climbed down the stairs hurriedly.

Unfortunately, the train’s door closed as soon as he was about to step in, to where Sohyun were standing. Sohyun looked up at him from the glass door and was surprised to see that he followed her all the way. Slamming his fist at the platform’s glass window, L.joe ran all his way to match with the train’s speed so he didn’t lose his sight on her. However, the train was moving too fast and soon he couldn’t see the train anymore.

Not wanting to give up, L.joe ran back to the station and got out from there. He ran himself to the underground panel and went through it hurriedly so he could reach Apgujeong at the time the train arrived. In the middle of running, L.joe stopped few times to catch his breath, and as he loosen his black scarf more so he had more air to breathe in, the memories of their first meeting repeated in his mind.

No matter how much I think about it, to me, it's only you

Looking at his watch, L.joe started running again. He even ran through the zebra cross without looking at the traffic light. Fortunately, they were no vehicles coming towards his direction or else he would have been hit and caught in an accident. He didn’t really care though. All he thought was just hurriedly went to the Apgujeong station.

As what he had predicted, Sohyun was just climbing up the elevator after she came out from the train. L.joe sighed in a relief as soon as he saw her and walked slower to catch his breath. They were just few meters away anyway. However, Sohyun didn’t seem to see him and instead she caught a bus that usually took her to her home in front of the station.

Hissing in frustration, L.joe tightened his grip on his backpack’s strap and started running again to catch up with the bus. He kept yelling her name so she could hear him. But unfortunately, Sohyun was wearing her headphone while sitting at the back seat of the bus.

“Sohyun –ah!!!”  L.joe yelled once more when he could finally touched the left side of the bus. He yelled louder so she could hear him and at least looked at him from the window, but she didn’t hear him at all. Soon, the bus went faster and leaving L.joe behind.

“Aaaaishhhhh!!!” L.joe screamed in frustration, kicking his left leg to the air and messed his hair.

What does he have to do to catch up with her?

He looked at the bus that was drifting away from him, and without him noticing it, a single tear escaped from his eyes.

L.joe found it odd that Sohyun stopped the bus in the middle of the road before she reached her home. She walked out of the bus and walked to the right side of pavement, climbing up stairs to somewhere higher. When he saw Sohyun walked out from the bus, he hurriedly walked out from the bus himself after paying the driver with some money.

He looked at the stairs before climbing it up.

Where is she going?

But he didn’t care much. He quickened his pace and climbed up the stairs. As soon as he finished climbed it up, he saw none other than a big space in front of him where he could see many buildings and city lights from there. He sighed tiredly and frustrated himself. Where is Sohyun?

Days when I thought I could forget you keep increasing

My own delusion of you coming back is torturing me

“Pabo,” suddenly L.joe heard a familiar voice behind him. Turning his head around in split second, he saw Sohyun stood up not too far behind him. He was a bit surprised and felt nervous when she walked closer to him.

“Don’t ask me to be your girlfriend in front of your friend, Byunghun,” she chuckled and smiled at him. He walked closer to her and he pulled her to his embrace. He hugged her tightly and a wide smile formed on his lips.

“You pabo,” Soohyun smiled with him still hugging her. Soon they broke apart and stared into each other’s eyes.

Nothing could even describe how happy L.joe was. The pain and tired on his body from running after her are now all gone after he heard her words. He smiled uncontrollably like an idiot as he drew her close to him again.

Slowly and hesitantly, he leaned his face towards her. She was so nervous that she closed her eyes as she thought he was going to kiss her but instead, L.joe planted a soft kiss on her forehead. The kiss was truly soft and sweet, and it melted Sohyun inside.

At this rate, I will go crazy because of you

Come back, come back, I will wait here

The two broke apart after few seconds and blushed as soon as they looked at each other. They laughed together at their stupidity as Sohyun was smiling all around and L.joe rubbed the back of his head nervously. To get rid of the awkwardness this time, they decided to take a sit next to each other and just gazing upon the city lights.

As they were sitting next to each other, L.joe couldn’t help but smiling widely when he saw her besides him. This is all that he’s been yearning for long and now it happens, it’s like a dream come true. However, there is still one thing bothering him.

“Now would you like to tell me why you’ve been avoiding me before?”

“Eh? Ermmmm…” Sohyun blushed.

“Just tell me already, I have run all the way here for it, you know,” L.joe said again.

“It…it’s just.. I was confused, Byunghun. I was confused with my feelings to you. I just couldn’t believe myself when I realized I have fallen in love with you, so I decided to avoid you some times to reassure myself if my feelings were true. Sorry for troubling you like that,” she finally said and she hid her face with her hands in embarrassment.

“So that’s why you still cheered on me when I had no spirit in the P.E lesson,” he chuckled.

“Yes it is! At that time, you weren’t look like yourself at all! And I didn’t want you to fail because of me, so…” she slowly opened her hands from covering her face, but closed them again as soon as she met his smiling eyes.

Smiling, L.joe took her hands out from covering her face. He still held her hands with his as he starred at her, lovingly.

“It’s indeed because of you. Sohyun-ah, I think… I really am going crazy because of you,” he said while starring at her eyes. He smiled as he looked at her who was blushing and shifting his gaze towards the city lights. Few moments later, he felt a sudden burden in his right shoulder. He looked at his right and he found Sohyun rested her head on his shoulder.

“I love you, Byunghun oppa,” she mumbled quietly, but enough for L.joe to hear it. Smiling widely, he rested his head on top of her head softly, and said

“I love you too.”

“Ready?” L.joe said to Sohyun, who was behind him all along.

“Pabo, what are we getting ready for?” She chuckled and smacked his back lightly, then sat behind him. She rested her head on his back and circled her arms on his waist.

A wide smile crept on L.joe’s lips as soon as he felt her hands on his waist. Putting the token in, he started the motor engine and played himself the game of “Harley Davidson racing game” with her sat behind him like they were really on a motorcycle.
