Lee Mi Yeon has always been the outcast in her school. The one who was sneered at for being a disgrace; mocked at for being a 'show-off', all because of her caucasion-blood and foreign-fresh beauty that became the envy of many students —particularly, a classmate of her's that goes by the name Park Ha Ra. She had always been looking for opportunities to make Mi Yeon's life a living hell in school. From verbally throwing vulgars towards her to sparking up false rumors,  Mi Yeon's cycle of torture never ends. 

But she had always been optimistic about the future.

She never understood why, but she never hated them for the way she was treated.

She let herself be mocked and hated, all for her decade-long dream that she wished to graduate from high school, head to college, get a guy, fall in love, settle down. That was the only thing that she cared about: every woman's ultimate life goal. But that dream was crushed within a few days after an incident happened that almost cost her her life. Mi Yeon's life was then turned upside down.

She was no longer optimistic about the future.

She never understood why but she hated them for it.

She wanted to leave the country for Sweden to stay with her grandmother. For years, her life here was the closest thing to hell and she could not afford to let herself suffer any longer. Mi Yeon's one and only dream for now was to be away from here —away from this horrible place. The longer that she's here, she could never truly be happy. Mi Yeon had expected her mother, out of all people, to understand that. 

But her mother knew more than understand. She was the creator of this hell when she had chose to marry a foreign man 26 years ago. Mi Yeon's mother, Lee Soo Young, was an heir to a respectable corporate and maintaining a pure bloodline was everything to the family. Despite having a humbled, well-mannered man who was of the same status and age to be her suitor, she still chose to marry a lowly caucasian man. 

Due to that, she lost everything. Her family. Her life. Her husband whom had left her hanging.

It was her mistake as a petulant young girl and now, her daughter is paying for her sins. She wanted her daughter to be happy, but her daughter wouldn't be happy being around her. The only way that she could think off was to tether her to something else.

Or in this case, someone.

Someone who would protect her with their life; shield her from all the harm in this world;  shower her with unconditional love like a husband would to his wife.

Mi Yeon's only escape from this hell was marriage.
