" That fortunate night. She was lucky to have met a weak-willed reaper, who didn’t want to see anyone die. ---------------------------------------------------- She watches the smoke of the candles on her birthday cake bleed out into the stillness of the sea breeze. Her lungs filled to the brim with the scent of fresh sea salt. The flat sea taut in all directions, the morning sun scattering diamonds across its skim surface. She glances down at the steady yellow flames, before blowing the candles out; wispy plumes of silver smoke lazily waltzed their way upwards and dissipated into the brackish air. Her eyes fall shut. The deep ache in the pit of her stomach seemed to swallow whole again, all at once. Another birthday alone, only the sea to keep her company- as her tears fall slowly in haphazard streaks down the contours of her face. She had often been here, alone of course. The sea had been her only friend when her mother had died and she would frequently come here and vent her problems to the lapping waves. It had happened to be an unknowing habit of hers to seek comfort and refuge in sea away from judgmental eyes and when things got a little overwhelming back at her aunts', especially recently she thinks back to the events this morning. This is the first time in ten years she had ever wished for anything. She always thought back then that wishing was for the optimist and the wretchedly foolish. It wasn't good to be foolish She had learnt that hard way fairly young, when she had wished for her mother right after her passing, and she vowed never again to be so selfish.
