notice me

amaurotic

(you didn't fit in)

amidst all of the bodies, drunkenly moving to some computer generated noise that shook the floor beneath us, you didn't belong

(almost unnatural)

you sat—back straight, hands on your knees—as if waiting for someone to come and fetch you

it perplexed me how calm you were

surely the people who danced in front of you would have made you react; put you off or grab your attention, but there you sat, unmoving

(you were so still)

i would have approached you then, but the music distracted me and pulled me out as the moon pulls the tide.

but, i was back, eventually

it's ironic how alcohol is a drink, but it just dries you out, isn't it?

i was dying of thirst, i convinced myself

(maybe i was just dying to talk to you)

closer i came until i saw myself reflected in the dark plastic of your sunglasses

(sunglasses inside?)

you look like you're looking at me, so i wave and smile just enough to get your attention

(please notice me)

you don't acknowledge me

you must be looking past

  (I hope you're looking past)
