Jung Yonghwa’s POV

One step, two steps, three steps, slowly I left my footsptep one by one on the white sands in this beach. It only been 2 hours since I landed on Jeju International Airport. After taking a brief visit to the hotel – put down my belongings – I went to this small beach immediately. Although it is small, but it really comfortable and healing, since not many tourists visit this beach, and also, because this beach held my fond memory.

It was not a hot afternoon, since the clouds hide the sun really well this fall. Ah, the winter would come soon. The beach seemed very silent, not many people dare to come play – or may be just take a walk – on this beach when the wind blowed so fast and cool. I was almost freezing. But I still like this beach, because this exact situation  is what I longed for. It always on my mind, burried as a good memory.

I looked to my surrounding, and my eyes catched the glimps of a girl facing the beach near the beach lip. It looked like she was waiting for the sun to set. It reminded me to the beautiful moment last year.

That time, I just finished my study. I’ve got my bachelor degree, so I must go to Seattle, USA, to fulfill my promise with my parents, learning the bussiness. My parents did not let me stay in Korea even if I tried all the way I could think of. And finally, I decided to take a brief visit to my hometown, Jeju, before flying to Seattle. It was meant to prevent my longing for Korea, but I was wrong. Who knows that one day trip would held my heart to Korea, to Jeju, and to her. Yes, HER, who I miss the most from Korea. Like a recorded film, my mind started to replay the scene.

                ***

I didn’t have many time left. My watch already showed ’08.45’, and I need to finish my one-day trip so that I can catch my plane. Ugh, Jeju- Seattle flight wouold be on 20.00 KST, so I need to arrive at the airport at 19.00. What? I just have less than 12 hours! 10 hours and 15 minutes. Damn.

I went to the cargo immediately. As soon as I saw a yellow suitcase, I took it. I was walking so fast because I really didn’t want to waste a minute anymore. But wait, I heard a person called me.

“Hei! Jogiyo! Hei! Yellow suitcase! Jogiyo!”

‘Is it really me? I think the only one who brought yellow suitcase is just me. Me?’ I stopped, and looked behind me. I saw a young lady ran towards me.

“Are you calling me? Nuguseyo? What happen? I need to go quickly so can you please make it simple and quick?”

“Jogi.” She was patting reallly hard. She tried to control her breath while pointing at me.

“Ne? Waeyo aghassi?” I didn’t know what did she mean.

“That suitcase...” She was still trying to catch her breath.

“What happens with my suitcase?” I looked at it. ‘Nothing is wrong...’ I thought. Then my eyes catched the suitcase behind this young lady. Oh wait... my eyes catches an interesting thing. There was my favorit band,CNBLUE, sticker on it.

“Oh! Seolma! CNBLUE! Are you Boice too, agassi?”

“I am not really a fan, but I like them. Wait, it isn’t the matter here.” She can control her breath now.

“Ne? Oh, wait, seolma...” I looked my suitcase again. No sticker at all. So... I took the wrong suitcase?

“That’s my suitcase.” She said while pointing at it.

“Ah, joseonghamnida. Jeongmal mianhamnida. I really didn’t know. I need to go as soon as possible so I took it immediately thingking that no one have this same color suitcase as mine here. Mianhaeyo, agassi.”

                ***

Thanks to the exchanged suitcase, I found a trip friend. Yes, she accompnaied my one day Jeju trip, and it left me a deep impression and attachment. I was walking towards the beach lip, and without me realized, I was only a hundred meters from this one lady. She caught my attention from a while ago because she kept looking at the setting sun. I was smiling, remembering the young lady from last year, and remembering my fool mistakes. How can I made such a weird agreement?

                ***

“So, where will we go?” I asked.

“Molla, I don’t really know Jejudo well.”

“Any place you wanna go?” I asked again, because I also didn’t really have any special place to visit.

                “Nope.”

“Are you serious? Kkk. So, why are you here if you don’t have any place to travel?”

“Keunyang... I wanna rest from a busy Seoul live. Hhh... Seoul is really a headache. Oh! I know where we shall go.”

                “Where is it?

“Beach! I want to go there before  sunset. I know a hidden beach, only a little tourist know the place, so we can enjoy the beautiful sunset as much as we want. Believe me. Would you go there? I bet you will like it. Ne? Ah... i really miss sunset. Jinjjayo. I couldn’t see it at all in Seoul.”

“Omo, i think she didn’t like to talk, but...” I talked to myself.

                “Waeyo?”

“Anieyo.” Damn! Did she hear me?

“Jinjjayo? Arasseoyo. Keundaeyo, it is getting colder, are you okay with this outfit? I bet you will die because of beach’s cold breeze.”

“Ei... so what’s the point of going to Jeju if not for the beach? Don’t worry, I brought a bag full of warm clothes.”

“Majayo. Okay, call. We will go to beach. What should we do now? It’s still too early for beach.”

“Keunyang, lets just sight seeing Jeju. Oh, by the way, we didn’t know each other name. Let’s just introduce ourself. Ireumi mwoeyo?”

“Haha, it’s the first time someone ask my name first instead of tell me his/her name first.”

“Oh, matta. Haha. Okay, I am...”

“Anieyo. Kwenchanhayo. Don’t tell me your name.” She cut my introduction.

                “Ei??? Waeyo?”

“Keunyang... we will just meet today right? What’s the point of knowing each other name? You can call me with anything you want. Keurigo, isn’t it thrilling to travel with a stranger?”

“Ige mwoeyo? I never meet someone like you. Are you a country’s wanted person? Kkk”

                “Ne.”

                “Ne???” I was really shocked.

“Haha. Of course not. Did I have a criminal face? Haha. It’s fun fooling with you.”

“Isn’t criminal nowadays are pretty and handsome? They use their beauty and innocent look.”

                “Ibwayo. So am I pretty?”

                “Ne...”

“Kamsahamnida. But sorry for dissapointing you, but I am not criminal. LOL.”

“I believe you. Kkk.” We laughed so hard.

“By the way, are you criminal? You are handsome and have innocent look, and act innocent too.” Omo, she got me.

                “Ei???”

“Haha. Mianhaeyo. Okay, so, how should I call you? Hmm...”She was thinking hard, her nostrils were getting bigger – I just guess about it, I don’t know the real reason about her nostril becoming bigger, kkk.

                “Up to you...”

“Aha! A man with yellow suitcase. Hahaha. What kind of a man likes yellow, till his suitcase is also yellow? A man with yellow suitcase. Okay... sounds good. Hahaha.” She laughed so hard while tuck her hair behind her left ear and close with her right hand. A bit annoying, but cute at the same moment.

“Aish, how can you talking like that about my suitcase just right after you call me a wanted person? Huh.” I showed a sulky face.

“Haha, mianhaeyo. Jinjja mianhaeyo, I just can’t help it. You are to unique.”

“Okay okay. Kwenchanhayo. You can call me like that. So for you... hm... how should I call you?”

“Sunset admirer.” She proposed a name.

“Sunset admirer? Ei... too good for a person who just call me criminal and yello suitcased man.” I showed my sulky face again, teasing her. I wanted to see her reaction.

“So you hold grudge, huh? Whatever, you can call me with anything.” She pouted her red lips. Aigoo... neomu kyeopta...

“Arrasseoyo, sunset admirer-nim.” I tried to make the most cute face, and she smiled at it.

                “Okay, kajyo.”

***

I woke up from daydream when a man around my hyung’s age calling his daughter, telling her not to walk to the beach lip. Ah, now I reminiscence my childhood. I was looking closely to a around 5 years old girl running to her parents. A really cute moment. Then, I heard little girl whined to her mother.

Eomma, wait. Please... Jebalyo Eomma... Hyenoon want to see the sunset. The sunset Eomma. Eo? Ne? The sunset...”I saw she was holding her mother’s hand tightly and trying to pull her to the beach lip. Apparently, the little girl was also like sunset. My brain then started to play another memory.

***

“It is 17.30 already. Hmm... the leaflet says that the sunset is on 17.50. Hhh... still a long way.

That was the first sentence she talked as soon as we were here. She was true after all, this beach was not crowded at all. Is it always like this? Or is it because of the cold breeze? Molla, I thought.

“I should be back soon. My plane is on 8.” I stated the truth.

“Wait, you said that you were from Busan. As far as I know, the last plane to Busan is on 11. So you have plenty of time. Ah, you have bought the ticket?”

“Yes I have bought it. But I wouldn’t go back to Busan. I will take direct flight to Seattle.”

“Seattle? USA? Waaa… Daebak.” She looked like holding some following questions, and I let it go. She didn’t need to know my business. We wouldn’t meet again after all.

“Will you live there for good?”

“May be.” It was silent for a moment, and suddenly,

Bwayo! He sunset is starting! Omo omo... “ then she looked at her watch.

“Ei... the schedule is wrong. It is just 7.45. Ah, how if people miss the sunset because of this damn wrong schedule on the pamplet. Ah jinjja, this is too much.”

I giggled at her antic.

“Are you sure it is the pamplete that was wrong or it is your watch?” She then took her handphone and gave me a look.

“Look, it is 17.46. So the pamplete is wrong. Ah... Dahaengida we were here since 17.20.”

I smiled unconciously. ‘This yeoja is really interesting’, I thought. I followed her, sat on the sand and looked at the sunset admiringly.

Neomu yeppeo...” I heard her talking to herself. Then I took a glance at her, she was smile brightly and sometimes blowed her hands, may be feeling cold.

Jogiyo, if you don’t  mind to answer, why do you love the sunset? And see, you are willingly watching the sunset, and still smiling when you are dying because of the cold.” She didn’t even looked at me when answering,

“Hmm, why... Why... Keunyang... because sunset is beautiful. Ah, and because it leaves us to welcome another world, to give light to the darker side, to give hope to the desperate ones, to bring happiness to the sad ones, to share its warmness to people living with their lovely ones. Her smile become wider and brighter. I just nodded and back to enjoy the sunset this afternoon, the sunset that may be my last sunset in Korea.

‘Yea... sunset is beautiful...’ I thought.

***

“Waa… sunsetida! Uwa... it is starting, neomu yeppeo.”

It was not from the little girl before, but from a young lady in front of me. Her voice could ruin my flashing memory about the sunset adminer-nim. Now I was focused on the lady. Something was wrong. ‘Why am I feeling this way?’ I thought. I couldn’t describe, but it was surely a weird sensation I felt.

The young lady still looking at the sunset intensely. I gathered my courage, and walked to her slowly. Finally I could stand beside her, and following her admiring the golden sun.

“What is a beautiful lady doing here just by herself, moreover in this cold breeze? Need a company? Kkk.” I tried to start a conversation with a joke, hoping that she will face me. But she didn’t. Wait, is my joke too much to the point that she think me as a weird man? Oh, crap Yonghwa. It is Korea not Seattle.

“I love sunset.” She finally answered, but still didn’t bother to glance at me. I could see that she smiled beautifully.

“Even if in this really cold day, agassi?”

Ne. It is the moment I love the most. Golden sunset in the end of Fall...” she paused a bit, “... in this beach.”

“Uwa, your taste is a bit weird, agassi. Ah, chusungeyo, I didn’t mean it like that, I just...”

Anieyo, gwenchanhayo, Arrayo.”

“I am weird too, to be honest. I love it too.” Instead of answer me, or at least look at me, she sat on the sand, still gazing intesely to the sun that was setting. Didn’t mind about her response, I continued my story, my last weapon to make her look at me.

“I love sunset because it leaves us to welcome another world, to give light to the darker side, to give hope to the desperate ones, to bring happiness to the sad ones, to share its warmness to people living with their lovely ones. I think you will think so. Am I right, agassi?”

Jackpot! It works! She didn’t mind to leave the sight of beautiful golden sunset that she loves the most just to look at me. I really couldn’t interpret her gaze. It was, how should I say it? It was... beyond words. Suddenly she stood up, and I was just smiling at her. I continued,

“And I love the sunset more because it reminds me of a young lady, a stunningly beautiful and talkative lady, who loves sunset whom I met in the end of Fall last year, here, right in this beach.”

Seo JooHyun’s POV

“I love sunset because it leaves us to welcome another world, to give light to the darker side, to give hope to the desperate ones, to bring happiness to the sad ones, to share its warmness to people living with their lovely ones. I think you will think so. Am I right, agassi?”

Dugeun dugeun. That sentence... I remembered it clearly. I often said it whenever people ask me. Who is this man who kept disturbing my Q time with my lovely sunset? Wait, seolma... With a complicated yet exciting feeling, I tried to face him, trying my best not to expect anything. I stood up reflexively when I saw him smiling, the I could hear he said,

“And I love the sunset more because it reminds me of a young lady, a stunningly beautiful and talkative lady, who loves sunset whom I met in the end of Fall last year, here, right in this beach.”

Seolma...” I still didn’t believe the sight in front of me. “Am I dreaming?” I said it unconciuously. And then I knew that it was not a dream when he gave his hand while smiling widely.

Annyeong haseyo, I am a man with yellow suitcase, Jung Yonghwa imnida. May I know who is this beautiful sunset admirer’s name?”
