Jungkook X OC

Bangtan Shorts

Eunjae’s stomach growled as she laid sprawled on her bed with her phone on her hand. She was scrolling through her Instagram feed and most of the pictures were of food.

“Ugh… Why do I have to be hungry now…” she groaned as she looked at the time, “it’s freaking 2AM. Nobody gets hungry at this time.”

Just as she was staring at a mouthwatering picture of ramen, a “messages” notification popped up on her phone screen. It read:

jeon john cook : EUNJAEEE

A smile formed on Eunjae’s lips when she saw who was texting her.

“JUNGKOOKKKK” she replied.

It was Jeon Jungkook, her best friend of 10 years. They met each other when they were both 7 years old. They were alone in a playground so they ended up playing with each other. Their parents became friends after that and from then on, they always kept in contact. When Jungkook became grade 7, he moved to Eunjae’s school so they became even closer.

jeon john cook: what you’re awake?

“dUh. If I wasn’t awake then how am I texting you?” Eunjae typed.

jeon john cook: ok whatever *eye rolling emoji* im so bored and im not sleepy .-. why are you still awake tho?

“cuz im hungry ;-; i tried to sleep alrdy but my tUmmY wont shUt uP”

jeon john cook: why dont you eat?

“i hv no food man”

jeon john cook: ooh i see… do you wanna go out and eat with me? :D

“now??”

jeon john cook: yeah, now of course! when else?

“but it’s like 2AM now! my mom would kill me if i leave now!”

jeon john cook: did you know that theres this thing called sneaking out of your house?

“but i never did that! what if i fail? what if i break something accidentally and wake my mom up?”

jeon john cook: dude it’s not that hard. stop being such a goody two shoes

“what happens if my mom wakes up and checks my room and im not there?”

jeon john cook: just put your bolster under your blanket to make it look like youre there

“but what food is there now at 2am??”

jeon john cook: mcdonalds, 7-eleven, etc

“nah”

jeon john cook: ugh ur so lame.

“shush i want to sleep”

jeon john cook: yeah right as if you can sleep with an empty stomach

“why do you even want to go anyways?”

jeon john cook: cuz im bored and youre hungry!

“you have your phone to entertain yourself”

jeon john cook: aW STOP BEING SO LAMEEE :(

“im not lame”

jeon john cook: yes you are

“no im not”

jeon john cook: if ur not lame then you would go out with me now

“fiNE ill go then -___-“

jeon john cook: srsly? YAYYY

“be grateful”

jeon john cook: ok im gonna go to ur house now. make sure youre outside ur house in 15 min and wear warm clothes cuz its cold

“ok boss”

Eunjae put down her phone and quickly rolled out of bed. She changed into her favorite hoodie and a pair of sweatpants.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” she thought as she tied her long hair into a messy bun.

She grabbed her glasses from her bedside table and rummaged through her bag to find her wallet before sliding it into her pocket. Like what Jungkook told her, she slipped her bolster under her blanket and tidied her bed a little.

“Ok. I’m ready,” she said to herself as she grabbed her phone and left her room.

She quietly shut the door and tiptoed to the stairs.

“Please don’t make any noise,” she muttered to the stairs.

She took the first step and a loud creak echoed throughout the house.

“,” she cursed, “freaking old stairs.”

She tried her best to go down the stairs quickly without making any noise. There were a few creaks here and there but she ignored them. She sighed and felt relieved when she reached the bottom of the stairs but it didn’t last long when she heard footsteps and a door opening.

“ what do I do??” she begun to panic.

The first thing she thought of was to hide and the closest thing next to her was a table. She dove under the table and tried her best to cover her figure with the chairs surrounding it.

“Please don’t see me,” she crossed her fingers and held her breath.

“Eunjae?” she heard her mom’s call.

Her heart skipped a beat.

“Thanks a lot, Jungkook,” she thought.

“Eunjae? Is that you?” the her mom called again. It was silent for a moment but then Eunjae heard footsteps walking away and her mom muttering, “I guess that was just the wind then” before hearing her bedroom door close.

Eunjae sighed in relief and cautiously crawled out of the table while being careful not to make too much noise with the chairs. When she got out, she immediately grabbed her house keys and slipped into her sneakers. Then, she swiftly sneaked out of her house and locked the door. Even though it was not 15 minutes yet, she didn’t want to risk staying inside her house and accidentally making a sound.

She stood outside next to her door waiting for Jungkook.

“He should be here in 5 minutes,” she thought as she looked at the time.

A cold breeze swept around her and sent shivers down her spine. Even though she was wearing warm clothes, she was still cold. To pass the time, she opened her phone and played some games.

After what felt like the longest 5 minutes ever, she finally heard Jungkook’s voice.

“Hellooo,” he waved at her.

“Dude I almost got caught sneaking out you know!” Eunjae whispered loudly.

“Whoa whoa don’t blame it on me,” Jungkook said, “and you didn’t even respond to my hello,” he frowned.

“Hello,” Eunjae whispered as she rolled her eyes, “you know, when I stepped on the stairs, they kept on making noises and my mom came out of her room so I had to hide under a table and hold my breath!”

“That means you’re bad at sneaking out,” Jungkook , “and why are you whispering? Your mom can’t hear you from here,” he chuckled.

Eunjae frowned and walked next to him.

“Let’s go to the park and eat there, okay? There’s a convenience store there and their food is pretty good,” Jungkook suggested.

“Sure,” Eunjae nodded in agreement.

Another breeze hit Eunjae and she begun shivering. She wrapped her arms around herself to try and make herself feel warmer.

“You cold?” Jungkook asked.

Eunjae nodded.

“You’re already wearing warm clothes though,” Jungkook pointed out, “or is it because you’re standing next to me and I’m a cool person?” he laughed at his own joke.

“No,” Eunjae looked at him with an unimpressed face, “I get cold easily. You know that already.”

“Come on! You never laugh at my jokes!” Jungkook whined.

“That’s because they’re not funny, coconut head.”

“You’re so mean!” Jungkook acted offended, “And my hairstyle isn’t like that anymore, okay? Please let coconut head die.”

A burst of laughter came out of Eunjae’s mouth but it was stopped by another chilling wind.

“UGH IT’S SO COLD,” she complained.

“Take this,” Jungkook fished out a heat pack from his pocket and gave it to Eunjae, “I brought it because I knew you were going to be cold. You’re welcome.”

Eunjae didn’t believe it for a second but she took the heat pack anyways, “thanks,” she smiled at him.

“See? I’m a good friend,” Jungkook said proudly.

“I never said you were a bad friend.”

“Aw, that's the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me!”

Eunjae giggled and Jungkook smiled because he made her laugh.

The two of them continued talking and laughing while walking to the park. After 10 minutes, they finally arrived and they were greeted by the bright light of the convenience store.

“After you,” Jungkook said as he opened the door for Eunjae.

Eunjae smiled at him and walked into the store.

The two of them walked around the store and browsed for what they could eat. In the end, Eunjae grabbed some cup noodles and a bottle of milk. On the other hand, Jungkook got an energy bar and some water. They walked up to the cashier to pay and pulled out their wallets at the same time.

“No no, I’ll pay for everything,” Jungkook pushed Eunjae’s wallet down.

“Why? At least pay for my own food!” Eunjae tried to take money out of her wallet.

“Too late,” Jungkook said as he took out some money and placed it on the counted, “my treat.”

Eunjae frowned and put her wallet back in her pocket. “He’s being so nice today,” she thought, “I need to give something back to him.”

Eunjae didn’t notice how differently she was thinking. In the past, she would have thought, “He’s being so nice today. What does he want from me?”

The old woman at the cashier smiled and muttered, “cute couple” as she handed Jungkook the change.

Eunjae became flustered when she heard the woman. “We’re not dating,” she thought, “but I wish we were… WAIT WHAT AM I THINKING I TAKE THAT BACK. Good thing nobody can hear it.”

“Thanks,” Jungkook smiled as he took the change and grabbed his food.

Eunjae didn’t notice that he said “thanks” instead of “we’re not dating”.

She grabbed her food too and headed to the hot water stand with Jungkook following her from behind. She teared open the cap and poured in the seasoning before filling the cup with hot water. Once she threw away all the packets, she turned around while holding her cup and her milk and smiled at Jungkook.

“Let’s go,” she said.

“You bought milk?” Jungkook stared at her hand holding the milk.

“Yeah, I did. Can’t you see?” she waved the bottle of milk in front of his face while she walked out with him.

“Milk is for babies,” Jungkook teased.

“No! It’s good for your bones! And it’s yummy too!”

“Well, I don’t see the effect of milk on you because you’re still short,” Jungkook teased.

“Hey! 155cm is not that short! Well, maybe it is but still! And milk isn’t supposed to make you taller!”

“But it’s okay, I like short you,” Jungkook grinned, “short is kawaii.”

Eunjae casually smiled at his compliment but inside, her heart started beating faster.

“Hey, let’s climb that tree and eat there,” Jungkook pointed at a large, sturdy-looking tree.

“Sure,” Eunjae agreed as they made their way to the tree.

Since they were young, the two of them often climbed trees together for fun so it was normal for them to climb trees together every time they were at the park.

Jungkook pocketed his energy bar and water and reached as high as he could and grabbed onto the nearest branch. He heaved his body up and climbed to the top. “Here, I’ll hold your cup noodles while you climb up,” Jungkook hung up side down and reached his long arm out.

“What the your body is so long,” Eunjae stared at Jungkook’s hand that was hovering above her.

“I know. You just noticed?” Jungkook smiled, “now gimme your cup noodles.”

“Wait. Let me take one bite first,” Eunjae slurped some noodles into . She gave her cup noodles to Jungkook and warned him, “don’t eat it when I’m climbing up.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t,” Jungkook chuckled as he carefully sat back upright without spilling the cup noodles.

Eunjae put her bottle of milk into her pocket and skillfully climbed up the tree to where Jungkook was. She sat down on the branch next to Jungkook and muttered a quick “thanks” before taking her cup noodles and devouring it.

“You look like you haven’t eaten in years,” Jungkook laughed at the way she ate.

“I’m hungry, okay?” Eunjae said with full of noodles.

“Okay,” Jungkook chuckled as he took out his energy bar and opened it to take a bite.

“You’re only eating that?” Eunjae looked at his energy bar.

“Yeah. I’m not hungry. It’s you that’s hungry,” Jungkook said, “but your noodles smell sooo good,” he couldn’t help but admit.

“You want some?” Eunjae offered him.

“Nah, it’s fine. It’s yours and you’re hungry,” Jungkook rejected but secretly hoped that he could have some.

“Come on, I know you want some,” Eunjae said as she picked up some noodles with her fork and moved it in front of Jungkook’s face, “open your mouth.”

Jungkook happily opened his mouth and slurped the noodles that Eunjae fed him. Eunjae smiled, knowing that he was enjoying the noodles. She finished all the noodles and the soup too.

“That was heavenly. I wish I had more,” Eunjae sighed, “I love noodles so much.”

“I know,” Jungkook snickered, “you’ve told me about your love of noodles lots of times.”

“Hey, I’m going to throw the cup from here,” Eunjae pointed at a nearby trash can.

“Okay. Good luck,” Jungkook watched her.

“Kobe!” she said as she flicked her wrist and shot the cup like a basketball. She looked at the empty cup in satisfaction as it landed perfectly in the trash can. “And that’s what you call talent,” she declared gladly.

“Wow, good job,” Jungkook clapped sarcastically.

“Hey! Not everyone can do that, you know,” Eunjae furrowed her eyebrows, “if you think you can do it, then do it.”

“Okay, I’ll show you,” Jungkook said before he finished his bottle of water and stuffed his empty energy bar packet inside it. “Kobe!” he flicked his hand the same way Eunjae did.

The bottle looked like it was going to go in the trash can. Jungkook was about to show off but the bottle hit the edge of the trash can and bounced off. Eunjae burst out laughing at Jungkook’s embarrassed face of failure.

“See? You need talent to do it,” Eunjae stuck her tongue out and drank her bottle of milk.

“No! You just had luck. I was unlucky that time,” Jungkook insisted.

“Fine then. Try it again with my milk bottle and see if you’ll succeed this time,” Eunjae said.

Jungkook nodded and Eunjae gulped down all the milk left in 1 go. She handed it to Jungkook and he focused on the trash can.

“Kobe!” he said again. But unfortunately for him, the same exact thing happened again.

“You failed!” Eunjae cracked up.

Jungkook was disappointed in himself, “I’m usually not like this. If the trash can was just a bit bigger, I would have made it.”

“Hey, don’t need to be so sad about it,” Eunjae put her arm around Jungkook’s back.

“Dude, that’s like so embarrassing for me,” Jungkook shook his head in disappointment, “I’m in the basketball team and I can’t even throw trash into the trash can without missing it.”

“It’s okay,” Eunjae patted his back but secretly laughed inside because of how Jungkook was sad about such a small thing, “Remember the time when I first played basketball with you and I travelled like 9 steps because I couldn’t layup?” she recounted an embarrassing story to make Jungkook feel better.

“Oh yeah,” Jungkook hooted with laughter.

Eunjae joined in with his laughter the more she thought of it.

“Man, I’ve had so many embarrassing moments that they’re uncountable,” Eunjae sighed after she finally stopped laughing.

“Same here,” Jungkook smiled, “OH, remember that time when we went to the supermarket together with our moms?”

“Ohh was it the one when you hugged the stranger?” A bright smile formed on Eunjae’s face.

“Yeah! That one! I thought she was my mom so I hugged her and climbed into her trolley but she was a stranger!” Jungkook covered his face in embarrassment, “and she was such a mean lady. She scolded me and hit me with a newspaper.”

Eunjae was clenching her stomach from laughing so hard.

“Everyone in the store saw it and even you saw it but you just laughed at me,” Jungkook sighed.

“It-it was-“ Eunice tried to speak but couldn't help laugh, “It was so funny!” she finally said after she stopped laughing, “your face was funny. You looked so scared. Actually, I can’t even describe your face. It was too funny. Poor you.”

“Yeah, that was one of my most embarrassing moments,” Jungkook nodded.

The two of them continued sharing their embarrassing moments and laughing at each other. They laughed until they couldn’t talk and until they laughed with no sound. Both of them had to hold on tight to the branches so they wouldn’t fall off the tree from laughing.

When they were out of breath and their stomachs hurt, they finally stopped sharing their embarrassing moments so they would stop laughing. Instead, they both stared at the sky while catching their breaths.

That day had lovely weather. The sky was clear and there were no clouds so every single star could be seen. The moon was crescent-shaped and it slightly illuminated the dark sky.

“The sky is beautiful today,” Eunjae looked up and admired the night sky.

“Yeah, it is,” Jungkook agreed. He looked at the sky for a minute then turned to look at Eunjae, who was still looking at the sky. “And so are you,” Jungkook thought in his head.

He gazed at Eunjae, who was still fixated on the sky. He suddenly thought of all the reasons he liked Eunjae and why he should be grateful for her.

“Her smile,” he thought, “her smile is killing.”

He loved the way she smiled. The way her face scrunched up and gleamed. To him, it was the cutest thing ever. And he always felt proud every time he was the reason for her smile.

“How she’s always careful,” he started a list in his head.

He always found it funny when Eunjae was being overly-careful. Like how she whispered to him outside of her house because she was scared that her mom would wake up.

“Her kindness,” he continued the list.

Although she was sometimes a savage, she also had a very kind heart. Like when she comforted him when he failed to throw trash into the trash can. That sounded like it was not a big deal but Jungkook was very nervous and he wanted to impress her. But other than that, she always treated nice people very nicely.

“Her loyalty,” he added more.

She was always there for Jungkook every time he felt down. No matter how busy she was, she would always make time for Jungkook if he ever needed help or was feeling sad. There was never one time when she abandoned him.

The list could go on and on but Eunjae suddenly turned her head and her eyes met Jungkook’s. She didn’t turn to look away. And neither did Jungkook.

“I was just thinking about you,” Eunjae thought, “about how you’re the only person who can make me laugh this hard.”

They stared at each other for a full 30 seconds without saying anything. They just sat there and admired each other.

“Ahem,” Jungkook cleared his throat and broke off the eye contact, “I have something to tell you.”

Eunjae turned red when she realized what she had been doing but she was grateful that it was dark so Jungkook couldn’t see her. “Sure, go ahead.”

“I’ve been debating with myself whether I should tell you this or not but I decided that I am,” Jungkook started off.

Eunjae could tell that he was being serious so she listened intently.

“Eunjae, we’ve been friends for a hella long time. And I’m really happy that you’re my friend.”

Eunjae smiled when she heard him say that.

“Overtime, we’ve gotten closer and closer to each other until one point when… I suddenly… when I suddenly had a crush on you. That was probably halfway through 10th grade or something. And I still have a crush on you until now. I was too scared to tell you how I felt about you that time but now… now I can’t hold it in anymore, Eunjae. I like you. Like really really really like you,” Jungkook spilled his heart out. He took a deep breath and looked at Eunjae, who seemed surprised but delighted. “Before I had a crush on you, everything you did seemed normal. But now, every time you smile or laugh, I get butterflies in my stomach. Every time you get close to me, my heart will beat really fast. Now, I always try my best to not embarrass myself because I’m always scared that you won’t feel the same way as I do to you. There are sooo many reasons why I like you. You’re smart, funny, cute, kind, pretty, polite, the list can go on and on. Every day that I get to see you is a blessing to me. YOU are a blessing to me. And… yeah. My point is… I like you. A lot.” Jungkook finished his long speech that he said on the spot. He nervously lifted up his head to look at Eunjae, scared of what she was going to say.

But before Jungkook could fully lift his head, Eunjae wrapped her arms around his body and pulled him into a tight hug. She usually didn’t hug people so this was something for Jungkook. He was too shocked to move.

“Jungkook, I like you too,” she said as she snuggled to his shoulder.

“YESSSSSS!!!” was all Jungkook could think of in his mind.

He wrapped his arms around Eunjae and hugged her back. Since Eunjae was tiny compared to Jungkook, her whole body was engulfed in Jungkook’s. They caressed and they stayed like that for quite some time.

When they finally pulled away from each other, their faces were both as red as tomatoes.

“I’m so glad that you’re in my life,” Eunjae said, “Lately, I’ve been having a small crush on you but I never really wanted to admit it because I was scared that you didn’t like me back. I kept on denying that I liked you. I thought that it would all go away. But after you said all that, I realized that I was just being stupid and that I really liked you. Just now when I was looking at the stars, I was actually thinking of you,” she smiled and moved closer to Jungkook to lean on his shoulder.

Jungkook wrapped his arm around Eunjae’s waist and smirk at her, “Well, I guess you’re my girlfriend now?”

Eunjae grinned from ear to ear, “you haven’t even asked me.”

“wOW as if all that wasn’t enough,” Jungkook joked, “well ok then. Kim Eunjae, will you be my girlfriend?”

“My pleasure,” Eunjae snuggled up to him once more, “hey, are you using cologne? You smell good.”

“Yeah, I am,” Jungkook shyly admitted, “but I smell good without it too,” he stuck his tongue out.

“It’s not like you’re going on a fancy date or something,” Eunjae chuckled at him.

“I just wanted to be extra safe and to make sure that I smell good for you,” Jungkook sheepishly scratched the back of his head.

“Aww… you’re finally doing things for me that I didn’t even ask for,” Eunjae , “like being really really extra nice to me today.”

“I think a person like you deserves that kind of treatment everyday.”

Eunjae felt flustered after hearing that sentence and shyly smiled at him.

“Cute,” Jungkook said.

Eunjae quickly buried her face into Jungkook’s chest and let out a small scream, which made Jungkook laugh at her.

“You’re driving me crazy,” Eunjae said with her face still buried in Jungkook.

“I can tell,” Jungkook chuckled, “And by the way, I’ve always wanted to cuddle you like this.”

“Jeon Jungkook let me breathe!” Eunjae whined.

“Okay, okay I’ll stop,” Jungkook snickered.

The two of them went on talking and cuddling until they lost track of time. They didn’t feel sleepy or tired at all when they were together despite what time it was. They both gave energy to each other.

Suddenly, Jungkook remembered to check the time and pulled up his sleeve to look at his watch.

“What it’s 4:30 already,” he said in surprise.

“Seriously?” Eunjae looked at her phone, “oh my gosh. Time is so fast.”

“That’s because time feels faster when you spend it with the people you’re most happy with.”

“Why do you have to be so smooth? Gosh.”

“Talent,” Jungkook smirked, “now let’s get off this tree. We should go home now.”

“Yeah, we should,” Eunjae nodded.

They climbed down the tree together and when they got off, Jungkook picked up the trash that he failed to throw and threw it into the trash can properly while Eunjae watched from the side while laughing at him. Eunjae grabbed Jungkook’s hand and they wound their fingers together and walked hand in hand. Jungkook walked Eunjae home and they both stopped in front of her door.

“It’s really late now and I probably won’t get much sleep but it was worth it spending my time with you,” Eunjae said sheepishly, “I’m glad that this happened and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Thanks for today, Jungkook.”

Jungkook was touched at Eunjae’s words, “I’m glad this happened too,” Jungkook said as he pulled Eunjae into a hug, “bye now. See you later,” he leaned down and kissed Eunjae on the forehead.

“See ya,” Eunjae said before she stood on her toes to give Jungkook a quick peck on his cheek.

Jungkook waited for Eunjae to unlock her door and go inside her house before leaving. They waved at each other before Eunjae shut the door and locked it.

Eunjae happily skipped up the stairs into her room and laid down on her bed and stared at the ceiling. She couldn’t believe what just happened. She tried to close her eyes and sleep but her mind only went back to Jungkook.

On the other hand, Jungkook was walking home very happily. He had the urge to shout out “WOOHOO!!!” but he wanted to stay cool.

“Good job, Jungkook,” he said to himself, “good job.”
