travel buddies

barcelona happenings ➝ vkook

they chat while they drink their coffees. jungkook learning more about taehyung, and taehyung in return learning more about jungkook.

taehyung then asks him what he's seen of barcelona so far. jungkook hasn’t seen much – spent yesterday in the gothic quarter, then visited the park güell that morning and spent the rest of the day at the beach.

"i was thinking about checking out the magic fountain this evening, then going up to montserrat tomorrow," jungkook says as he spoons the last of his ice cream out of his glass and into his mouth. "have you been?”

taehyung shakes his head. “i had considered it, but it sounded boring by myself. unlike you, big guy, i’ve got to be motivated to do anything that involves exercise.”

jungkook laughs. “did you have anything planned for tomorrow?”

“i don’t know... not sure i should tell you,” taehyung says with a smirk.

jungkook scowls a little and says, "why not?"

taehyung sets his elbows on the table and leans over his arms, “what if you’re secretly a serial killer, trying to lure me up into the mountains?”

“yah!” jungkook protests. “i could say the same about you! you’re the one who approached me, you know.”

taehyung waves a hand dismissively. “please kookie, does this face,” he widens his eyes and points a finger at his face, says with exaggerated innocence, “look like one of a serial killer's?”

“like that makes me feel much better, serial killers can have a pretty face like yours, you know?,” jungkook says, but a moment later seemed to realize what he said. they’re silent for a moment, just staring at each other. jungkook's cheeks flaming and taehyung grinning stupidly, then jungkook clears his throat and says, “well? montserrat, what do you say?”

taehyung lets out a sigh, but there's a hint of a smile on his face when he says, “since you asked so nicely.”

jungkook beams at him. “what do you think, quarter to ten? we could meet at the train station and go from there.”

“fine. just so you know, little dongsaeng, i'm not usually up before eleven, so you should appreciate what i’m agreeing to.”

jungkook laughs and says, voice genuine, “i’m honored, taehyung-ah.”

they gather up their glasses and spoons and carry them back into the cafe, then turn back out onto la rambla. as they near the train stations, taehyung says, “if you take the q3, you can get to the magic fountain without switching.”

jungkook stops walking. “you’re not coming?”

“oh. i've been to it, but sure.”

jungkook chews on his lip and trails behind taehyung, trying to keep the disappointment out of his voice when he says, “you don’t have to hyung, we can just meet up tomorrow, it’s alright -”

but taehyung puts a hand on his arm and says, “it’s fine kook-ah. i didn’t realize you wanted me to come with you. i'm free," he says with a wink. "i wouldn't mind going again. come on, let’s get that train. if we get there early enough, we can get a good spot before it gets dark.”

jungkook lets taehyung lead him with a hand loosely around his wrist. jungkook tries not to look at taehyung while their chests are pressed together, instead he focuses on the map over their heads. it reminds him of busan.

“kook-ah,” taehyung says as the train rumbles underneath them, breath coming out in hot puffs against jungkook's left cheek, “you didn't even try to convince me that you’re not a murderer.”

*

jungkook leans against the wall of the train station, a cup of tea in each hand. he cradles the cups against his chest and tips his head back against the wall, lets his eyes wander as he watches people.

it’s too late in the morning for commuters, but tourist season is in full swing, and jungkook entertains himself with trying to guess where people are from as they breeze past him.

he’s halfway through his past time game by the time taehyung shows up, eyelids heavy and a knitted beanie tugged over his blonde hair. jungkook smiles and holds one of the cups out.

“morning, taehyungie,” he chirps in a teasing tone, and taehyung glares at him, but he takes the cup anyway. it’s chilly in the mornings and they’re going up into the mountains, so taehyung’s got a thick hoodie on, sleeves tugged down over his hands, and he looks so warm and cuddly that jungkook kind of wants to hug him. but instead, he takes a sip of his tea.

“mmm, tea,” taehyung breathes. “bless you, young child.”

jungkook grins, then uses his free hand to pull out a pair of tickets and waves them in the air. “got our passes, gaja! it leaves in ten minutes, let’s go wait for it so we can get good seats. it’s an hour ride.”

taehyung groans, but follows jungkook anyway. the train is already there, doors open, so they get on board and pick their seats. it’s warm on the nearly empty train, and jungkook sips his tea quietly, sneaks glances at taehyung. he’s got his eyes closed, head resting against the back of the seat, tea loosely between his knees, and his breath is coming out soft and even.

“kookie-ah, i'm not sleeping.” taehyung snickers, and jungkook laughs nervously, caught.

“uh,” he thinks for an excuse for staring, comes up with, “i thought you might like to listen to some music? we can share my earphones.”

taehyung hums and cracks one eye open and looks up at jungkook. “depends on what we’re listening to.”

jungkook digs through his satchel, comes out with his phone and hands it to the blonde wordlessly. he watches him scroll through the list of artists.

taehyung giggle a little, “kookie-ah are you serious with this?” taehyung waves the phone at jungkook.

“of course, why?”

“you’ve got...” taehyung looks back down at the screen. “gd, a bunch of anime soundtracks, metallica, little po- ”

before taehyung can continue, jungkook quickly grabbed the phone from his large hands while taehyung laughs out loud, deep and melancholic.

“you are very strange, you know that? well except for the g-dragon songs because i'm a fan aswell. ”

jungkook simply slumps back down on his seat after jokingly glaring at taehyung, a little smile adorning his own lips. not noticing taehyung's fond brown eyes looking at him.

*

“u-wa,” jungkook whispers. the mountains fill the skyline before them. and there, settled on a plateau, is the monastery, a network of stone buildings with small windows and spanish tile roofs.

“it’s not quite like home, is it?” taehyung asks, and jungkook shakes his head.
“not quite.” he feels taehyung shiver next to him, but he had to resist the urge to wrap his arm around the blonde.

jungkook glances around the cable car, frowning at the windows. “i wish i could open one of these and get a photo.”

he skims his fingertips around the edges of the window, looking for a latch, when taehyung wraps a hand around his wrist and drags his arm back down.

“please don’t,” taehyung says insistently. “just take one through the glass?”

jungkook glances at the boy, concerned. taehyung looks nervous, eyes darting from window to window, then down below them. jungkook turns his hand over in taehyung’s grip, holds his hand and squeezes reassuringly. “yeah, okay. of course taehyung-ah.”

taehyung’s nervousness is forgotten when they step off the cable car. it’s cold up on the mountain, and the two boys huddle together to keep warm on the way to the monastery.

they stop just inside the doors so they can study a tour guide pamphlet without the wind continuously blowing at their figures.

“you know,” taehyung starts, “i don’t think i’d like being a monk.”

jungkook snorts. “and why’s that, hyung?”

taehyung doesn’t answer, and when jungkook looks up, he sees that taehyung's staring at him in disbelief. “.”

“oh.” jungkook flushes. “right.”
they’re silent after that, both staring down at the pamphlet in jungkook’s hand.

after a moment of scanning the page, jungkook clears his throat and says, “well, i don't think we're going rock climbing,” jungkook says, but it comes out more like a question.

“nuh-uh, i'm too lazy for that.” taehyung declines.

“good,” jungkook breaths out in relief. “well then i guess we should walk around?”

“sounds fine,” taehyung says with a nod. jungkook tucks the pamphlet into his satchel and takes out his camera.

jungkook takes pictures of everything. he likes to store memories through photos. his friends often joked that his entire life was on that camera, and jungkook hadn’t disagreed.

he took photos of taehyung when he’s not looking - the side of his face as he reads a plaque, a flash of his shoes as they walk down the corridors, his hand as he trails it along the wall behind him. it was pretty weird, but taehyung is just so infatuating.

once they’ve seen everything there is to see, they fight their way through the crowd. stopping over to the information booth to look at it.

“tae, do you want to take a walk? there’s an overlook up here...” jungkook trails off, and looks at taehyung.

“kookie-ah, it’s a two hour hike,” he says doubtfully.

jungkook laughs, “i know you don't want exercise but we can do the hike slowly?”

taehyung ponders for a moment before turning to jungkook, with his box-like grin. “can we grab some waters before we go?”

*

after about three hours, the two boys finally reached their destination. taehyung admiring the view in front of them. while jungkook, quick to grab his digital camera to capture taehyung and the view. "omo." they both breathe out.

“you know, i’m more of a beach guy myself,” taehyung says casually, and jungkook turns to him, “explains why you're a bit tan.” taehyung shrugs defensively. “but this is quite lovely too.” taehyung states, looking at jungkook who's admiring the view. “lovely, indeed.”

jungkook finally breaks away from the exquisite sight, turning to taehyung who barely broke his fond stare at jungkook, “take a photo with me tae.”

taehyung raises an eyebrow, ”jinjja? we've only know each other for a day, jungkook-ah.” he says, voice soft. jungkook blinks at him, eyes wide and mouth almost turning into a full pout. taehyung sighs, lips curving up into a smile, ”arasso, can't resist your pout.”

[pic at the top, pls pretend the view's behind them lmao]

they find a spot to sit at, where the face of the mountain blocks most of the wind, and share a snack. the view is breathtaking and jungkook sighs happily, pleased that taehyung had agreed to join him.

they soon finish the snack, jungkook turning to the sleepy, blonde boy beside him, ”taehyungie, ready to head back?”

”sure.” taehyung nods. pulling himself up from sitting down on the ground. the bottle blonde wraps his arms around the raven boy's waist, looking at jungkook, pouting. ”kookie-ah, it's freezing up here.” jungkook simply wraps his arm around taehyung's shoulders, heart thumping loudly against his chest.

they soon stumble out the train, finally at their stop. the sun was setting, darkness starting to surround them. the raven haired boy turns towars the blonde.

”that was fun.” he says, a sincere smile on his face.

taehyung nods and returns the smile, chewing on his bottom lip for a moment before meeting jungkook's eyes and says, ”i think we've established that we're not serial killers,” he jokingly says, making jungkook laugh, ”so what are your plans for tomorrow?”

”i was thinking about museu picasso? and there’s güell palace by la rambla, that looked nice. figured i could look at the art museum since i enjoy art, then go to the palace. maybe end the day at the beach.”

taehyung nods, ”you enjoy art, huh? i like it too.”

jungkook tries not to laugh at taehyung's little white lie because he saw the boy's doodles at the café yesterday, and they looked like a three year old's work. but he won't tell the blonde that. instead he asks nonchalantly, ”did you want to join me?”

“oh,” taehyung says, like he’s surprised. jungkook couldn't help but roll his eyes at his hyung.

“i was just going to go back to the beach.” taehyung says, scratching his neck.

“well, you can still do that if you come out with me. just after we go to the museum and the palace.” he reaches out and pokes taehyung in the shoulder. “what do you say, tae? travel buddies for the next few days?”

he can see taehyung's lips twist into a smile, jungkook praising himself in his mind.

“sure, why not,” taehyung says, and jungkook smiles his bunny smile at him.

“how about we meet here at ten again?”

taehyung groans. “kook-ah, don’t you ever sleep in?”

jungkook blinks at taehyung. “that is sleeping in, hyung.”

“arasso. but you’re bringing me chocolate milk.” jungkook nods, and taehyung tacks on as an afterthought, “and maybe a danish, as well?”

jungkook laughs, “deal.”

*

for the next three days, the two boys meet and set out around the city. they visit museu picasso, then visit the güell palace. then on friday night, at dinner in a restaurant, jungkook says, hesitant, “so, tomorrow i was going to tour el palacio de la musica catalana...”

he pauses, waits for taehyung to look up from his lasagna. “yeah?”

he’s suddenly nervous, though he knows there’s no reason for him to be. he's only known the blonde for five days, and isn’t sure he has the right to ask him to change his own plans. he clears his throat, “then i was going to leave. for madrid.”

“oh.”

jungkook bites his lip, “yeah. i ju-“

“kookie-ah, it's okay.“ jungkook looks up at taehyung, “i knew you were going to leave eventually since we didn't plan on travelling together in the first place. it's alright.“ taehyung says in a soft tone, a little smile on his lips.

jungkook looks down at his plate, he knew he's gotten attached to the older blonde the past few days so he couldn't control what came out his mouth a moment after.

“but we could though. if you wanted.“ he blurts out.

taehyung stares at the boy in front of him, “could what?“

“travel together, taehyung.“

the blonde gapes a little, but soon turned into one of his signature box like grins, “okay.“

jungkook presses his lips together, embarrassed. “okay what?“ he question, having forgotten about what he had just asked earlier because of his nervousness.

“pabo, look at me,“ taehyung snickers, “i'll go, kookie-ah. to madrid.“ the older says with a hint of smile still lingering on his lips.

“huh? wait... what?“ jungkook asks dumbly taehyung bursting out in laughter at the younger's antics.

“i said i'll go, jungkook.“ taehyung repeated.

“but i thought you were waiting for a sign?“ the raven haired boy asks.

taehyung smiles fondly at him, “i think you were my sign.“
