It’s not the darkness outside,

The first time was a blur. The first time was impulse.

She’d smelled it in the air. The blood pulsing in his veins.

She’d seen it in his face. The fear clouding his eyes.

She’d heard it loud and clear. The bones breaking in his body.

She’d tasted it on her tongue. His blood. His fear. His bones.

She was on him before he knew what was happening. A shadow out of the darkness, throwing him against the brick wall so hard that he almost bounced before falling to the ground. She didn’t even try to stop herself that first time because she didn’t know what was happening. She just knew that it felt so good to do it. Because right in that moment. Right in that split second when the world narrowed down to her senses, her urge, her need. Right when she sank her nails in and ripped. Right when she saw the final light fade from his eyes. Right when she felt his life flow out of him and into her.
