Breakfast in Bed

Breakfast in Bed

Jieun squirms in bed. She had been fast asleep and dreaming when something invaded her Dreamland. A tinkling sound. Not bells. Not breaking glass.

A clinking.

Like someone gently knocking a knife against a glass to signify the proposal of a toast.

Then a crunch.

Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

Clink. Crunch.

Suddenly, her Dreamland disappeared altogether and she was in a field walking over fallen twigs.

Crunch. Crunch.

Someone looms over her. Not in a tree, but not quite on the ground. Clinking silverware against a glass.

Booming. I’d like to propose a toast.

The dream is so odd that it startles her awake.

Her eyes blink open slowly, and she looks up.

Wonho is beside her, like he should be, but he’s sitting up, not lying down. And he has a bowl in his hand.

“Hoseok?” she grumbles. “What are you doing?”

He looks down, and a sweet smile spreads over his face. “Eating,” he says as if this is a normal statement at whatever o’clock in the morning when he’s sitting in bed next to his sleeping (trying to sleep) girlfriend.

“Eating? In bed?”

“Breakfast in bed,” he says, grinning as he takes a bite of his breakfast.

His spoon clinks on the edge of the bowl. When the bite hits his mouth – crunch.

“You made me have the weirdest dream with your clinking and crunching.”

“With my what?”

“Eating your stupid cereal in bed. What’s wrong with you?”

Normally Jieun would deprive Wonho of nothing. She would give him anything, do anything for him. This morning, she’s exhausted.

“Why couldn’t you eat in the kitchen like a normal person?”

“It’s cold in the kitchen,” Wonho replies. “We were hungry, but too cold to stay in there.”

Jieun narrows her eyes. “What do you mean by ‘we’?”

She sits up a little, and glances to her right. Hyungwon is there – as he should be – but he is also seated. Unlike Wonho with the bowl of cereal, he has a plate. She sits up completely, leaning her head back against the cushioned headboard. She can see that his plate is filled with a huge Belgian waffle piled high with whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate chips.

When she looks up at his face, he grins sheepishly. He has whipped cream around his mouth. It’s impossibly adorable, and she can’t help stealing a kiss on his plump lips.

“What is this?!” Wonho shouts. “He’s eating in bed, and he gets a kiss! I’m eating in bed, and all I get is a complaint!”

Jieun pulls away from Hyungwon after kissing for a few seconds, and turns to Wonho. “He looks adorable with whipped cream on his lips,” she says with a pout. “You’d kiss him too. He looks too adorable.”

Wonho glances over at Hyungwon who smiles at him. He does look too adorable. He does feel the urge to kiss him. But he exercises a lot of self-control, so he can continue pouting. “I think I can resist,” he says grumpily.

“Oh,” she coos, nudging closer to him. “Don’t pout, baby.”

He turns a little, a grin in place, when he feels her nuzzling against his cheek. He knew he could guilt her into a kiss, and, sure enough, she plants one on his cream-free lips. “I love you,” he whispers, kissing her back.

“I love you too,” she assures him.

“What about me?” Hyungwon whines.

If one’s not pouting, it’s the other.

Jieun turns toward him, and Wonho looks on. “We love you too,” he assures him.

Hyungwon smiles happily, and goes back to munching his waffle.

Jieun sits back against the headboard between them. “Okay, so who’s gonna make breakfast-in-bed for me?”

“Not it!” Both guys shout at the same time.

Jieun crosses her arms over her chest. “You know, I thought two boyfriends would be enough. Maybe I’m gonna have to get another one,” she jokes. “Changkyun is looking pretty good lately…”

“I’ll get it!” They both shout, jumping up from the bed.

Jieun smirks as she watches her two boyfriends race off to see who can make her breakfast the quickest.
