The Last Stand

Description

There she was, awakening consciously from her buckle sleep disturbed by the sudden disclosure of trembling noises. Irene managed to stand and gripped on the table to her right side. Few bloods rushed down from her forehead as a small debris fell down to her earlier. She ignored the pain and forced herself to stand up with a certain balance. She was the only person standing alive inside the building.

Foreword

Twilight has descended and the sturdy tall buildings were now shadowed by a pall gloomy-gray haze of burned cars, collapsed infrastructures and human pulverized ashes. The impeccable city before was now nothing but blazingly destroyed. Everything was ruined.

Vast structure of bridges, skyscrapers and city skyline were shattered down upon the flaming destruction circling the entire city. Sounds of earsplitting shattered glasses, thunderous explosion of bombs, rattling machine guns and choppers echoed to their ears. A heavy explosion devastated an entire city block causing a major terror of everyone. The force of the continuous battle cannot be ceased.

From the tenth floor of where she was located, a shocking disturbance drew on her vision as she moved closer and looked through the broken transparent glass wall. The intruders were deliberately exterminating everything they’d see one-by-one by their ultra-modern guns that could turn everyone into ashes.  The enemies are everywhere. They were wearing incombustible clothing and she could see they are glaring with firing eyes of anguish, knowing they’re hard to eradicate.

After studying the ruinous commotion below, her heartbeat started to pound more rapidly. Her sweaty face cracked, she suddenly remembered someone she was supposed to find and save. Her sister. “Wendy”, she gasped in terror.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

People screamed in horror, scampering inside and out in a rattle condition to save their precious lives. All of them were running, scattered in no definite direction to go and hide.

One of the innocent was Wendy; she was on her heels trying to run as fast as she could. Her tears are streaming hastily disregarding the scratch that stinged her left arm. But the roaring sound of devastation never stops Wendy on finding her sister back to the building of their company. The younger girl managed to take the stairs, knowing that taking the elevator won’t hold any help so she headed to the tenth floor.

The dilapidated infrastructure was about to fall down anytime soon and Wendy rushed toward the entrance of the 5th floor hoping for the presence of her sister. A bit dizzy on circling the building, someone quickly sprinted towards Wendy before she could continue her risky searching. Both of them fell down into the ground considering their sudden impact.

“Where the hell do you think you’re going?!” it was her co-worker, her friend, Ken.

Wendy was beyond grateful that a smatter of her worries were released. Yet, her fear towards her sister's absence remained. Ken managed to pull Wendy and gripped her upwards to make a stable position. "Ken thank goodness your alright...my sister...she's with you right? Have you saw her?"

"I didn't see her on the tenth floor. No one was there, everyone's gone now Wendy! Everyone's dead! We need to go out now, this building will collapse soon!" With all strength he might, Ken instantly dragged Wendy out of the building, but Wendy pushed him away, her tears still never ceased.

"No! I won't come with you! I will find my sister!" Struggling from his grip, she attempted to slip out from him. However, Ken's enduring force didn't help Wendy from escaping. "Ken, let me go please"

    "It's too risky up there"

Beforehand Wendy could break away from Ken, their surroundings vibrated.
