Foreword

Note | A slow, but short, beginning ahead. I couldn't have hopped right into it, and didn't want to add this extra peice into the first chapter. But it is somewhat important to read |

It was quiet. The air surrounding a group of 5 teenagers stood cold and still. Each of them securely strapped in a seat, with multiple dimmed lights above, flickering as if they were about to give out. Where they were couldn't possibly be guessed, but with a bit of rocky motion, they knew they were moving. A boy just awaking slowly lifted his head, catching a stiff neck from sleeping with his head hanging too long. One eye opened, his senses were slowly regaining. He could only make out other figures with the amount of light given, and they all seemed to be asleep still. Except one, who was seated across from him. It was another boy who glared right back at him, making him jump a little. Both eyes now opened, he could make out that the boy was strapped in, causing him to look upon his self to realize, so was he. He started to panic, noticing his feet weren't even touching the ground.

He started to kick, "H- Hey!" he stuttered, "What's going on!?" his voice now growing in volume. The boy did not reply, his eyes still glaring at him in the same position. He started fidgeting, grabbing at anything and everything he could, tossing and turning about.

"Let me out! Someone!" He continued to scream. The echoes started to wake the others. His breathing started to get uncontrollable, he tried once more to get a response from the boy.

"What's going on!? What the hell!?" The boy still not responding but now just turning away from him, looking down in an irritated manner.

The others began to regain consciousness, adding to his panic. Now multiple voices of worry started to fill the room with unanswered questions. He took a glance at his surroundings to see a tiny, red blinking light in the corner of the room before the area around him started to shake about. Wobbling from side to side, some of the teens screamed in confusion. He felt sick to his stomach, like a punch to the groin had taken his breath. The ride ending with a final shake, giving him reason to believe that wherever he was, he was about to find out.

The large wall furthest away from him turned out to be a door, opening from the top - out like a drawbridge. As it opened, a beam of light whipped into the room blinding all who gazed upon it. His breathing still uncontrollable, the belts to the seats unlatched. The boy with the strong glare rose to his feet first, standing at an intimidating height. He looked about 5 feet 11, glaring at the boy one final time before making an exit. He gulped while his eyes followed the boy to the exit, making a slow but steady stand himself.

He studied the others who he arrived with, all males. Except for one who had a striking, thin body. He had no chest, but his hair fell well below his shoulders. Another soul who caught his attention was a boy with colored hair. It was clear that it was a dull pastel pink as soon as the sun hit it; roots already growing out. Looking at the boys, he noticed one thing in common with all of them, including himself. They were all dirty. They looked beat without the bruises, like they were dragged through dust and dirt.

As they all cautiously exited, he looked back to see that he arrived on some type of helicopter. It was huge, and not a type of helicopter he's seen before. But that was not the problem right at that moment. He doesn't remember seeing a helicopter like it, not remembering anything at all. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't recall a single memory. Which made him even more petrified. He wanted to kick, and scream, and curse all at once. What was happening? Why was this happening? What's going to happen? Questions flooded his brain like a ditch on a stormy day.

"Hey--" He snapped out of his daze, "Hey!" voices from a far rode on the wind blowing through his hair.

He turned around to see a large group of other people waving them over. They were standing on a building up high, all lined up almost spilling over the railing. Natural intent led the kids to walk over to the people waving for them. The tall boy already far ahead without hesitation. The rest followed, as he started to gaze at 4 giant steel walls closing them in. They had to be standing at least 50 meters tall, and they looked rusted down like they've been standing for hundreds of years.

He jerked his head back, squinting his eyes from the gusts of the helicopter, watching it slowly rise to make its leave. He returned his interest to his sorroundings, scoping several other buildings. They all looked aged, worn down. Not standing as tall as the one all the other people were on, but alligned in a neighborly fashion. The voices grew louder, almost sounding like they were cheering for them.

What exactly is going on here? his stomach curled. The others walking in front, he looked up with a frightened expression at the people yelling from above. They looked like other teenagers, and dirty teenagers at that, all gathered and cheering like a crowd at a colosseum. A loud drop snapped his attention into place, followed by a voice he knew he would never forget--

"Welcome to 51, Deerlings."
