Let's not be friends anymore

Once Upon A Story

A/N: Warnings for infidelity, TaoRis as Luhan's parents, mentioned mpreg, use of profanity, and badly translated Chinese lyrics.

Luhan had just finished showering and sauntered out into the living room when his housemate and best friend handed him his ringing phone. Luhan made himself comfortable on the couch while Baekhyun sat behind him helping him dry his hair with a towel as they listened to his baba's nonstop ranting over speakerphone.

"Two weeks ago you said Suho was too clingy, last week you said Kyungsoo was too short. Those reasons to not continue getting to know them is beyond ridiculous, and I let it go because it's good to keep your options open. But this week, what you did was unacceptable! Minseok waited at the restaurant for nearly two hours, but you stood the poor guy up! Luhan, I did not raise you up this way..."

His eyes wandered around his surroundings in boredom as he soon lost interest in his baba's words. In fact he didn't need to be attentive to know what he'd called for anyway; lately, it had been about the same issue.

There was an exasperated sigh coming from the other end. "Lulu, you're not getting any younger. You have to settle down at some point. I won't allow you to end up like those lonely cat ladies! My grand babies aren't going to just magically appear on their own." Luhan was able to recite it word for word as Tao said them; that was how many times he'd heard the same speech. He internally groaned at being lectured yet again. Baekhyun unsuccessfully suppressed his chuckles at Luhan's misfortune.

He instinctively glared but realized that Baek wouldn't have seen him anyways. "But baba, you can't just miraculously expect me to fall in love with them, especially if I'm not even attracted in the first place!" He whined in response, trying to reason with him.

He scoffed at the protest. "Baby, the problem is you're not even trying!"

Luhan didn't want to be around for another oncoming rant. Thus he feigned a believable yawn. "Baba, I'm tired. I've got an early shift in the morning. We can talk about this another time." Or hopefully never again. He thought to himself.

"Alright." Tao sighed again in defeat. "But I expect to see you home for dinner this weekend, I haven't seen you in ages! Oh and bring Baekhyun with you."

After exchanging goodnights, Luhan happily hung up. He chucked his phone to the other side of the couch as he flung himself back against Baekhyun.

"Thanks for backing me up, you're the worst best friend ever." He huffed out bitterly with a pout.

"Anytime babe." Baekhyun replied in a joking manner, wrapping an arm around Luhan's waist. He reached out and grabbed the remote off the coffee table in front of them and switched on the TV.

"What are you doing?"

"Putting on a movie." He stated the obvious. "You didn't think I believed you when you said you're tired right? That was so fake, only your baba would fall for it." He teased, earning him a painful slap to the thigh.

Luhan rolled his eyes out of annoyance. "What is this? Pick on Luhan day?"

Baekhyun chuckled. "Alright, sorry." He pulled Luhan in closer, before placing a blanket over them.

"I'm picking the movie." Luhan declared as he snatched the remote out of the younger male's hand. And Baekhyun just let him do what he pleased.

-------

As promised, once the weekend rolled by, Luhan and Baekhyun stood outside of the former's parents' house.

The door swung open, Kris pushed them back before stepping out of the house, stealthily closing it behind him.

"Dad, what do you think you're doing?" Luhan blinked rapidly in confusion.

"Saving your life." The taller male responded rather dramatically; the perks of being married to the drama queen himself for so many years.

Before either of the two males could question why, Kris continued to elaborate. "Your baba told me not to tell you, but I think you at least deserve a heads up. Just promise me you won't freak out and attempt to run after I tell you."

Luhan gulped, an uncertain look on his face. "That really depends what it is."

"I'm being serious here young man." His old man scolded lightly.

"Just tell me already dad!" His heartbeat began picking up. He could hear it beat loudly against his chest as the suspense was slowly eating at his nerves.

"Your baba invited his friend's son over for dinner. He wants to try to set you up again."

Upon hearing the unexpected news, Luhan groaned out in exasperation. Of course his baba would do something like this. He just couldn't believe he was stupid enough to trust that this would only be a casual dinner; therefore letting his guard down with ease.

"I wouldn't have had to resort to such drastic measures given the fact that you didn't bail on your last date." He could already imagine that this is what his baba would tell him.

Kris cleared his throat to gather attention to himself once again. "We should head inside, before your baba becomes suspicious." He then opened the door and made his way back in.

At that moment, Luhan was very tempted to just flee from the scene as soon as his father turned his back. Unfortunately, he knew no matter how he tried, escaping was futile. A look of despair reflected in his pupils as he gazed at Baekhyun; silently pleading for help.

Baekhyun took Luhan's hand in his own and held it firmly. "It'll be alright. Just follow my lead."

The cloud of confusion overtook his mind as he allowed Baekhyun to tug him along. He hadn't a clue what it was the younger male was planning. But in a time of crisis, he didn't have any other choice but to trust that the latter knew what he was doing.

-------

True to his father's warning, as they walked into the dining room, a bronze skinned man was already sitting at the table.

Once they were all seated, Tao turned his attention over to their guest and gestured towards his son. "This is Luhan."

Their guest stood up from his chair and leaned over the table with an outstretched hand. "Hi Luhan, it's nice to meet you. I'm Kim Jongin, but everyone calls me Kai."

Luhan mentally sighed at how awkward the environment was. He was in the spotlight and it would be rude to just ignore Kai, especially since he was probably forced to do this as well. However, as he too was about to stand up, Baekhyun placed a hand on his shoulder, rooting him to his seat.

Getting up, he winked at Luhan then turned to shake Kai's hand. "It's nice to meet you Kai. I'm Byun Baekhyun, Luhan's boyfriend." He flashed an innocent smile, protectively wrapping an arm around Luhan's shoulders.

Gasps filled the air and saucer sized pupils focused themselves on Luhan. The said male's face flushed at all the sudden attention.

"What? Since when?" Tao gaped at the two. "Why didn't you tell me about this?" He pointed an accusing finger at Luhan, his face contorting into a glare but he couldn't contain his shock. "And I thought you were dating Chen?" He diverted his gaze to Baekhyun.

Kris clasped a hand over Tao's, in an attempt to put a stop to his excessive inquiries. "Is this true Han?"

Luhan dared not shy away from his father's gaze as he knew that would indicate they were lying. He quickly weighed out the pros and cons of his situation. As much as he hated lying, it unfortunately was better than having to be constantly introduced to strangers. And if Baekhyun was willing to play along for the night, then why not? So after heaving in a deep breath, he nodded in confirmation.

Tao glanced from his husband to his son and Baekhyun before peeking at Kai. "Well ."

"We did it! Cheers!" Baekhyun boasted, his speech slurred as he raised his can of beer to clank against Luhan's.

The elder drained the rest of the contents from his can before carelessly throwing it off to the side. "I can't believe your plan actually worked." He giggled.

After dinner at the Wu's residence, they cooped themselves in their house and celebrated their success. In the eyes of everyone else, they realistically displayed themselves as a couple. But in reality, Baekhyun and Luhan just acted and treated each other as they normally would. Of course, this bit of information need not be disclosed to Kai or his parents. Thankfully, the night seemed to work out in their favor.

The other scoffed, not forgetting to roll his eyes. "And I can't believe you doubted me. Told you not to worry." He opened up another can and finished it in one shot.

"But to believe you and I are a couple? My parents are really something." The elder hiccupped before breaking out into laughter at the idea.

Baekhyun smirked playfully. "You don't think we could be a thing?" He scooted closer to Luhan, tilting the latter's chin so they were eye to eye.

Luhan was rendered speechless at their close proximity. Their surroundings seemed to fade out as he indulged in his best friend's mesmerizing chocolate brown orbs.

Baekhyun slowly lowered his head, experimentally nibbling on the other's plump bottom lip. When he received no signs of protest, he confidently latched his lips onto Luhan's.

Relishing the warm sensation and the smoothness of Baekhyun's lips on his own, he responded. Soon their mouths were moving in perfect synchronization.

-------

It's been a week and counting since Baekhyun last stepped into his shared house.

Despite the terrible hangover the next morning after their dinner at the Wu's, Baekhyun distinctly remembered the events of that night. How a harmless question turned out to become a make out session was beyond him. But he was adamant that it had been the effects of the alcohol. He never denied Luhan's beauty, but it was the first time he felt love struck toward the other. Curiosity got the better of him when he suddenly wondered what it would feel like to kiss the elder. And once he recalled what had happened, he'd prayed that it was just a dream; but all hope vanished the moment he laid eyes upon Luhan, who was sleeping beside him shirtless.

Not knowing how to face his best friend after everything that occurred, he left a message lying that Chen was sick and that he would be staying over for the time being.

Baekhyun was aware that Luhan was still at work around this time. However, that didn't prevent him from poking his head through every room, in the case that Luhan had indeed been at home. His mind was very much contradicting as part of him yearned to see Luhan while another part of him would rather not to stay away from the awkwardness that was sure to come.

After his brief inspection, he let out a breath of relief. Walking into his room, he began his search through his messy belongings.

Had it not been that he forgot his concert tickets, his trip back home would not have been necessary.

"Now where did I put them?" He absentmindedly mumbled as he rummaged through the drawers of his bedside table.

A smile spread across his face once he caught sight of an envelope amongst all the scattered papers. But an expression of astonishment quickly overtook him when it wasn't the tickets he found.

"I, Byun Baekhyun swear to marry Wu Luhan at the age of 28 if he and I are still single. If I dare to break this promise, our friendship will be at stake." He recited what had been written on the paper.

He also unfolded the other piece of paper which was identical to his but had been signed by Luhan. He snickered and shook his head at how childish they were at the age of 18. Truthfully, Baekhyun would've forgotten about the existence of their promise if he hadn't found these papers. He had been immersed in reminiscing their simple past and blissful memories, silently wishing to go back in time; but smile faltering as he knew that wasn't possible.

The ringing of his phone jolted him out of his trance. As he fumbled to remove his phone from his jean pocket, his wallet also fell out; some of the contents within it spilling out.

"Hey babe." He casually greeted Chen.

"Any luck finding those concert tickets? I don't see them anywhere so I don't think you brought them with you."

Baekhyun placed his phone on speaker as he bent down again to pick up the contents of his wallet. "Just found them. Turns out they were in my wallet the entire time."

He could literally imagine Chen rolling his eyes at him when he chuckled. "Well aren't you quite the scatterbrain lately." The latter teased.

Baekhyun smiled half heartedly before he had his bottom lip wedged between his teeth. "I'm coming back now. Should I pick up some dinner on the way?"

"I'm preparing a steak dinner tonight, remember?" The playful tone in Chen's voice disappeared and changed into one of concern. "Are you alright Baek?"

A nervous chortle escaped his mouth. "Yeah, I just forgot. Um, I'll see you in a bit." He ended the call, not giving his boyfriend the chance to react.

Baekhyun flopped himself back against his bed, angrily scrubbing at his face with his hands out of frustration. Guilt doesn't even begin to describe how he feels toward Luhan and Chen. He regretted jeopardizing his friendship and now it seemed to be affecting his relationship. This wasn't fair for Chen, and he tried his best to compensate by spending more time with him. But as much as he didn't want to admit, his mind was constantly filled with thoughts, images and memories of Luhan. And he wasn't sure what to think of his inner turmoil.

-------

Waking up in Baekhyun's room with nothing but the duvet covering him was indication enough of what must've happened the night before. A wave of regret and guilt washed over Luhan. He shouldn't have allowed Baekhyun to kiss him. He should've pushed the latter aside after having his lip bitten. But it was too late once their lips were fully attached. Baekhyun's lips were intoxicatingly sweet, to the point where he'd become too addicted to pull away.

Luhan's previous feelings subsided to make way for feelings of loneliness, sadness and emptiness after receiving Baekhyun's message. That had been a rather harsh reminder that Baekhyun belonged to Chen. They had nothing going on between them, they've always only been best friends. But suddenly it seemed as though they reverted back to strangers. And as much as that didn't settle with Luhan, he couldn't find it in himself to take the initiative to break the invisible wall between them.

Not being able to stay in the house without everything reminding him of Baekhyun, Luhan decided to temporarily live with his parents. He voluntarily worked more hours and he spent his free time with his parents. He played basketball and soccer with his father, just like during his childhood. With his baba, Luhan accompanied him to shop in different malls. This was all so he could refrain himself from thinking about Baekhyun.

"Phew, what a rush! I haven't shopped this much without your father's constant nagging. We should go, just you and me more often." Tao happily plopped himself down on the couch, dropping all the bags he held around him.

It was noon now and they had just come home from the mall. "I'll go prepare us some lunch." Luhan offered, instead of directly replying.

Tao reached out to grab his hand before he could advance any further. "Lunch can wait. Come sit, we haven't talked in a while." He patted the spot beside him, gesturing for his son to join him.

"What do you mean? We've been talking the whole day." But still, Luhan complied.

Tao rolled his eyes. "That wasn't what I meant." He extended a hand to brush the stray hairs from Luhan's eyes. "Has something been bothering you lately baby?"

Luhan visibly stiffened at the abrupt question. "N-no, everything's fine." He averted from his baba's intent gaze.

The older male raised an eyebrow, obviously seeing through his lie. "Okay, now look me in the eye and tell me again that nothing's wrong."

Luhan sighed. Even though he knew he wouldn't get past his baba, it was worth a try anyway. "Am I really that obvious?"

"I carried you for nine months inside of me Lulu. It's only natural that I can tell." His baba stated, seemingly proud.

He cringed at hearing those words. "I'm really not in the mood to have this talk again baba."

"Then tell me what's on your mind."

Luhan finally caved and ended up telling Tao how he and Baekhyun weren't actually together. That it was just an act to get him to stop setting him up on blind dates. He debated whether it wise to mention their kiss and one night stand, but eventually decided to be truthful. "And I know I shouldn't, but I think I may have developed feelings for Baek. Am I a bad person baba?" He glanced at Tao with glistening tears at the brim of his eyes, bracing himself for a major scolding. But he was surprised when it didn't come.

Heartbroken at seeing his precious son in such a vulnerable state, Tao gently wrapped his arms around Luhan. Rocking him back and forth in his hold, the elder carefully thought of how he should answer. "I won't lie, I am upset that something like this happened. But no, you're not a bad person, everyone makes mistakes. Now that's not to say what you did should be tolerated."

"Baba, your words are contrasting." Luhan sought comfort in his baba's embrace, resting his head in the crook of the taller male's neck. He suddenly felt so small, almost as if they'd gone back in time a dozen years. He missed and cherished moments like these. And it didn't matter how old he was, his baba's embrace was always going to be the most comforting.

A soft chuckle escaped from Tao's throat. "I know, but there's no right or wrong when it comes to love baby. As much as I love having you here with me, you can't keep avoiding Baek forever. You should tell him how you feel, even if nothing comes out of it, at least you won't be lying to him. And no matter how hard it's going to be, Chen deserves to know the truth."

Luhan nodded against his chest. "I understand. I'll do my best to make amends."

A grin graced Tao's features. "I believe in you baby. I have faith that you know what you're doing."

"Does that mean you'll stop with the blind dates?" A surge of hope coursed through his body only to be doused when he heard Tao laugh.

"Keep on dreaming baby." Luhan groaned while Tao planted a kiss on the top of his head.

-------

"Eric Chou." Chen mumbled as he glanced over the ticket. "I've never heard of him before. Why did you suddenly decide to take me to see his concert?" They settled themselves once they found their seats.

Baekhyun's facial expression contorted into one of uneasiness upon hearing the question. He gnawed at his lower lip in contemplation. He didn't even know where or how to start explaining to Chen.

He couldn't possibly tell him he got the idea from watching a drama with Luhan. The latter fell in love with the song that was being promoted through the drama. And coincidentally, the artist was holding a one day concert in Korea. So Baekhyun bought two tickets hoping to surprise Luhan. But after everything that's happened, he thought it best to not mention it. However, he didn't think the tickets should go to waste so he decided on asking Chen to accompany him. If he told his boyfriend the truth, he couldn't imagine how hurt the other would be.

A hand on his shoulder shook him out of his thoughts. He turned his attention over to Chen. "Um, I heard he's a really talented singer." He opted to say. At least that wasn't a lie.

During the bit of time that they were waiting for the concert to begin, Chen happily engaged him in a conversation. He knew he should've been listening, but he couldn't bring himself to concentrate. Thus he had been more than thankful that the show started before Chen found out.

Eric elegantly glided his fingers over the black and white keys rhythmically before he began singing.

"是不是 還那麼愛遲到 (Are you always late as usual?)

熬夜工作 又睡不好 (Staying up late to work and don't sleep well?)

等你 完成你的目標 (After you've achieved your dream)

要戒掉逞強的嗜好 (Try to quit your habit)

都怪我 (Blame me)

把自尊放太高 沒有把你照顧好 (My pride was set too high, I didn't take good care of you)

驕傲 是脆弱的外表 (Pride is fragility's appearance)

最怕我的心 你不要 (What I fear the most is you not wanting my heart)

能不能繼續 對我哭 對我笑 對我好 (Can you continue to cry to me, smile at me, be nice to me)

繼續讓我 為你想 為你瘋 陪你老 (Continue allowing me to think for you, go crazy for you, grow old with you?)

你好不好 好想知道" (How have you been? I really want to know)

Though the melody was unfamiliar to Baekhyun, he was still able to briefly comprehend the contents of the song. The lyrics depict the feelings between ex-lovers. And Baekhyun couldn't help but relate the words back to his own situation; despite being best friends. It's only been a little over a week's time that he hadn't seen or heard from Luhan, but he still often wonders how the latter's been doing. But neither seemed willing to put down their pride to face the consequences of their actions. After all, it would be impossible to pretend nothing happened between them. As much as he resented the reality, he knew things would never be able to go back to the way they were before.

"I don't even understand a word of this, but you're right, he's really good." Chen leaned over in his seat and pressed his lips against the shell of Baekhyun's ear just to be heard.

Chen's voice sent shivers down his spine. Baekhyun felt the uncomfortable churning of the contents in his stomach. To say he probably broke the record for being the worst boyfriend ever would be an understatement. It wasn't his intention to have his head filled with endless thoughts about Luhan while he was supposed to be enjoying a concert with Chen. Unfortunately, it seemed his thoughts had a mind of its own and poor Chen remained oblivious.

Baekhyun didn't reply. All he did was reach out to intertwine their hands. Hopefully, physical contact would help keep him in check.

When Eric introduced the next song as he played a new melody, Baekhyun almost couldn't refrain from protesting. He recognized the song and even had it memorized because Luhan relished it so much.

"
習慣聽你分享生活細節 (I'm used to listening to you share everyday's moments in your life)

害怕破壞完美的平衡點 (Scared of destroying the perfect equilibrium between us)

保持著距離一顆心的遙遠 (Keeping the distance one heart away)

我的寂寞你就聽不見 (Then you won't be able to hear my loneliness)

我走回從前你往未來飛 (I walk back to the past while you fly towards the future)

遇見對的人錯過交叉點 (Meeting the right person, missing the point of crossing)

明明你就已經站在我面前 (Clearly you've been standing in front of me)

我卻不斷揮手說再見 (But yet I constantly wave goodbye to you)

以後別做朋友 朋友不能牽手 (Let's not be friends in the future, friends can't hold hands)

想愛你的衝動 我只能笑著帶過 (The impulse of wanting to love you, I can only smile to make it pass)

最好的朋友 有些夢 不能說出 (The best of friends, some dreams I cannot speak of)

就不用承擔 會失去你的心痛" (So I won't have to endure the burden of the heartbreak of losing you)

The song described someone that is in love with their friend. How one wishes they could be more than just friends but is afraid to cross that line and fears the consequences that follow so instead those feelings are kept a secret. And to Baekhyun's utter dismay, those words seemed to yet again reflect his current dilemma. He likes Chen, but now he was beginning to harbor feelings for Luhan too? In short, he was baffled.

Out of impulse, Baekhyun grabbed a bewildered Chen by the jaw and smashed their lips together. He frowned when he didn't feel the spark that sent tingles throughout his body, had his face warming or his heart beating out of sync; the way that he felt when he and Luhan kissed. Finally pulling away, he breathlessly whispered "sorry" before stumbling through the row of feet and bolting out the auditorium doors.

"Baekhyun wait!" Chen called out, running to block the other's path. "You think you can just leave without an explanation?"

His eyes darted down to the floor, unable to meet the younger's gaze. "I'm sorry." Was his automatic reply.

The silence in the atmosphere was deafening, until Chen spoke up, heaving a defeated sigh. "It's Luhan isn't it?"

At the mere mention of his friend's name, the older male's head shot up. Now he was the one in need of an explanation. "I-I don't... What are you..." He spluttered unintelligently.

"Luhan's the reason for your weird behavior lately, isn't he?" He cracked a tiny smile at the other's startled expression. That had been enough to confirm his suspicions. "Let's face it Baek, I've been giving you not so subtle hints that I wanted you to move in with me. But you seem to always change the subject and now you randomly show up at my door saying you want to stay for an infinite amount of time; what else was I supposed to assume?"

Baekhyun nervously gulped. "I'm really sorry Chen. I'm a jerk, but I really didn't mean to hurt you." He spoke sincerely.

"Honestly, I've always noticed how much you and Luhan seem to act more like a couple. I guess I was just in denial all this time." Without him knowing, a single tear slid down his cheek.

"Chen, I-" Guilt was seeping through the elder's body. His chest tightened at the sight in front of him.

The said male reflexively shuffled backwards for every step Baekhyun took towards him. He desperately needed to maintain the distance between them. "I don't need your pity Byun Baekhyun." He raised a trembling hand to wipe away at his tears. "Don't let my sacrifice go to waste." Without sparing another glance in the elder's direction, Chen turned his back to leave the building.

-------

Standing in front of his house, Luhan chewed on his lip anxiously. When he'd gotten Baekhyun's text saying they needed to talk, he wasn't sure what to think of it. It was obvious what the topic of discussion was going to be, and he knew he couldn't avoid it forever. In fact, after his chat with Tao, he was adamant to make things right again. For better or for worse, the talk that was about to take place was inevitable. So after deeply inhaling to calm down his nerves, Luhan inserted the key then pushed the door open. The house was lit up, which meant Baekhyun was already waiting for him.

"H-hi." Luhan stuttered, subconsciously shuffling his feet as he greeted the other.

Baekhyun rose from his seat on the living room couch. Taking tentative steps toward Luhan, he took the latter by surprise when he suddenly enveloped him in a tight embrace. He breathed in the other's chocolaty scent and didn't realize until now how much he really missed Luhan.

"B-Baek? Are you-"

"Chen broke up with me." The said male interrupted him, wasting no time to kick around the curb. The tone in his voice was undetectable.

Luhan gasped, eyes widening at the unexpected news. His mind was telling him it was all his fault, while his heart felt relieved. An internal battle was occurring between the Angel and Devil. Though it was much easier to be selfish and claim Baekhyun for himself, he knew the right thing to do was to listen to the Angel.

He instinctively wrapped his arms around the younger's torso, hoping that would serve as some sort of comfort. His eyes pooled with unshed tears. He hadn't meant for things to get this far. "I'm sorry Baekhyun." Perhaps he would regret his decision later, but he treasured the latter's happiness over his own so it would be worth it. He tried his best to bite back the sob that threatened to escape his throat. "Let's go explain to Chen. H-he'll be mad but I'm sure he'll end up forgiving you."

Baekhyun immediately pulled back when he heard the evident strain in Luhan's voice. He was taken aback when he saw tears at the brim of the elder's eyes. "Are you crying because you feel guilty or is it...?" The question remained unspoken. For there was a lingering fear of insecurity that Luhan wouldn't reciprocate his feelings.

Luhan already had a fairly good idea what it was Baekhyun was hinting at. But friendship shouldn't be built on lies, even if it meant telling the truth could quite possibly sabotage their bond. He heaved in a deep breath to recollect his emotions. "I like you more than a friend. But don't worry, I'm not expecting you to return my feelings. I'm sorry for being the cause of your breakup, I-"

That was when Baekhyun decided he had heard enough. Luhan had been thrown off balance when he was pulled forward, colliding into the younger's sturdy chest. Baekhyun felt Luhan struggling to push away when he held a firm grip on the back of the elder's head; practically forcing their lips to clash.

It was only when they were both gasping for air did Baekhyun finally pull back.

"You think this is some kind of joke? That wasn't funny Byun Baekhyun, I was being serious!" Luhan's chest heaved up and down, his lungs working hard to replenish his oxygen supply. His tone was angry but his face mirrored a look of hurt.

The younger male cautiously placed the palms of his hands on either sides of Luhan's shoulders. They locked gazes, and when he'd been sure the latter seemed placid enough to listen, he began to justify himself. "I didn't tell Chen about what happened between us. Or I mean I guess I didn't really have to." Instead of voicing his question aloud, Luhan responded with a perplexed stare. "He noticed that something was wrong, he even said that we seem to act as if we're the real couple." Baekhyun clarified pointing at himself and then Luhan.

He felt the temperature in his cheeks rising at hearing the statement. Other than that, there wasn't anything Luhan could say to retaliate to that comment. In the eyes of outsiders, he had to admit that they didn't quite excel at portraying themselves as best friends. But they had become comfortable and had been accustomed to way they interacted with each other. And if anyone were to misinterpret their friendship for that of anything else, that wasn't within their control. However, if they were able to fool his parents and even Chen had observed this, then maybe that did suggest their relationship wasn't platonic after all.

"When I kissed Chen," Baekhyun fidgeted under Luhan's gaze, seemingly uncomfortable at having to relive the memory. "I didn't feel those same sparks flying as I did when I kissed you. In fact, I felt absolutely nothing for him."

"What are you trying to say?" Luhan struggled to ask as his breath hitched in his throat. His heart drummed erratically as he tried to search Baekhyun's eyes for an answer.

"I love you too Luhan, more than just a friend. And I guess we've always felt that way but we never realized until now." All previous fears of crossing the delicate line between being best friends and lovers instantaneously dissipated.

The elder evidently blushed at the revelation. "S-so what does that make us now?"

"That depends, what do you want us to be?" Baekhyun leaned forward to whisper into Luhan's ear.

The tickling sensation sent chills down his spine. "Baek, enough with the games, I'm being serious." Whined the flustered male.

Baekhyun cackled but ceased the teasing. "You're my boyfriend, my lover, my other half but most importantly, you're mine." He then pulled out a note from his pocket. "I even have solid evidence to prove it. Now you don't have a choice but to date and marry me." It was the written promise to marry each other, with Luhan's signature on it.

Luhan rolled his eyes, but nonetheless couldn't refrain from grinning as he melted into Baekhyun's arms. "You're so ridiculously cheesy."

"As if you don't love it." Baekhyun boasted. But before Luhan could retort, he yelped out in shock as the younger scooped him up in his arms and made a run for one of the bedrooms.

"Byun Baekhyun what do you think you're doing? Put me down!" He squealed, smile unfaltering as he wriggled his dangling legs.

"We're finally going to give your baba the grand babies he's been longing for." Baekhyun replied with a smirk before placing Luhan down on the bed.

Luhan subconsciously rolled his eyes again, eventually breaking out into laughter. But soon gave in by wrapping his arms around the other's neck as his lips were engulfed by Baekhyun's in a passionate kiss.
