Four

A Little Heaven on Earth

“He’s so cute!”

“Can I squish his cheeks?”

“Why do you have him, though?”

“Who is he?”

Jongin sighed. His students had bombarded him with questions the second he’d walked in with the little guy in his arms.

“Look,” He began, “This is Baekhyun, he’s here because he wanted to come with me, and he’s Mr. Do’s son. That’s all the information you’re getting, okay?” He said sternly, squeezing Baekhyun protectively against his chest when he sensed the little one becoming uncomfortable.

Lucas, one of his students, looked at him with a -eating grin, “So you’re not just taking care of his son so you can bone him later?”

Jongin felt his cheeks flush – whether it was embarrassment or anger he wasn’t sure. Probably a bit of both.

“Lucas, you do not talk to or about teachers like that, especially with a child around. Do you understand?” He glared.

The P.E teacher was normally a happy guy, one you could joke around with and have fun with but when he gets mad, he’s terrifying. He looks murderous when he glares at you yet looks gorgeous when he smiles at you. Truly a sinful man.

Lucas nodded, intimidated slightly by his teacher.

“Good.”

And the rest of the lesson continued without a hitch. Baekhyun simply sat in the corner and played with his toys the whole time, although Jongin couldn’t help but notice the tiny coughs coming from the little boy. He’d ask Kyungsoo about it sometime.

-

“How was he?” Sounded a voice from the doorway.

Jongin turned to be faced with a rather tired-looking Kyungsoo. He followed the other’s eyes over to the boy seated at one of the desks pretending a ruler was a sword.

“He was fine. The students are a bit of a hassle, but he was good.” He smiled. “How was class? You look exhausted.”

Kyungsoo gave him a small smile, not sad nor happy, it was one of the ones that you couldn’t really distinguish the emotion behind. “Class was fine. I’ve just been stressing out about the whole babysitter thing. I can’t keep him here next week, boss only agreed on one week. I still can’t find anyone, though.” He sighed.

Jongin couldn’t think of anyone he knew that could babysit, but maybe his friends would.

“I could ask around? I don’t really know anyone that can babysit but people I know might.” He offered.

The shorter man stared at him in surprise for a moment before regaining his composure. He wasn’t so sure why Jongin was so eager to help but he was more than okay with it. He needed all the help he could get.

“Sure,” he replied. “Thanks for doing that.”

Jongin grinned, “No problem. Oh, and by the way, is Baekhyunnie sick? He’s been coughing a lot recently.” He asked.

Kyungsoo’s eyebrows furrowed in concern. Baekhyun had been sick not too long ago with a cold, and he’d had a horrible cough throughout the duration of it. Kyungsoo had considered taking him to hospital about it but it cleared up soon after. He didn’t want his son getting sick again. Seeing his little one in pain was too much for him to bear and he never wanted to go through it again.

“Baekhyunnie, come here.” He called out to his son who was still fighting an imaginary enemy with the rulers.

Baekhyun’s squishy face lit up at the sight of his father and he rushed over to hug him. Jongin’s worries confirmed when the boy let out a few coughs upon reaching them.

The drama teacher looked worriedly down at his son and picked him up.

“Have you been coughing a lot, Baek?” He asked, biting his lip.

The boy stared at his father for a while before resting his slightly chubby hands on Kyungsoo’s cheeks.

“Mm. But Baekhyunnie is okay. Baekhyunnie won’t worry Appa. Baekhyunnie doesn’t want to make Appa sad. So Baekhyunnie is fine.” He smiled, and Kyungsoo’s heart broke.

“No, no, no, baby. Baby, if you’re sick or hurting you need to tell Appa, okay? You could get really sick and if you don’t tell me something bad could happen to you and that will make Appa very, very sad, yeah? Sadder than when you are sick. When you’re sick, Appa is sad because he doesn’t want you to be in pain and you have to tell me you’re in pain so I will know and I can make you better, okay?” He pleaded, and he held back the tears trying to leak out upon seeing the wet trails down his son’s cheeks.

“Mhm, Appa. M’sorry.” He apologized through loud sniffles.

Kyungsoo smiled down at Baekhyun, “It’s okay, baby. Just make sure you tell me from now on, alright?”

His son nodded and used his chubby hands to pull his face closer and kiss him on the cheek before burying his face into his chest cutely.

Kyungsoo looked up only to see Jongin staring at the two fondly. The other man realised he was staring and lifted his eyes to meet Kyungsoo’s and gave a soft smile.

“He’s a good kid.” He announced, and the father’s chest swelled with pride.

“He really is.”

There was a moment of silence before Kyungsoo spoke up, shifting his weight from one leg to another.

“You know that offer you made – the one about keeping Baek for a weekend?”

Jongin blinked in surprise. “Yeah, why? You want me to keep him this weekend?”

Kyungsoo looked up at him shyly, and Jongin swore his heart would combust with the cuteness of this man – and his son.

“If it’s not trouble… I just need some time to try and find a babysitter and he doesn’t like travelling that much. He seems to really like you, too.”

Jongin grinned, “Sure. Take as much time as you need, me and Baek will have the time of our lives this weekend.”

-

The weekend couldn’t have come fast enough, in Jongin and Baekhyun’s opinion. When the boy had been told that he’d be spending the weekend with the PE teacher he’d come to love so much he’d been absolutely ecstatic. Kyungsoo had had a hard time controlling him, but he was happy because he hadn’t heard his son cough or even so much as sniffle the entire time.

His phone buzzed in his pocket and he wasn’t at all surprised to see the name that lit up the screen.

[From: Jongin

What time r u coming?]

[To: Jongin

About 10am if that’s okay?]

[From: Jongin

Sure ^^]

“Baekhyun, did you pack all your things properly?” He yelled into the open space.

“Yes!” Came a reply from somewhere deep into the house, accompanied by the pit-pat of tiny footsteps on hardwood floors.

A tiny figure in a flying squirrel onesie appeared soon after, and Kyungsoo couldn’t help but coo at the sight.

“Are we going now, Appa?” Kyungsoo was checking his backpack one last time and didn’t notice how out of breath Baekhyun sounded, as if he’d been running around for hours.

“Yep.” He responded, reaching out a hand for his son to grab. “Come on.”

And with that, they took the ten-minute drive to Jongin’s place.

Jongin’s apartment was relatively large, courtesy of his parents. Even though he was the only one living there, it had three bedrooms, a very open living room, a large kitchen, one unreasonably big bathroom and a whole lot of extra space.

Baekhyun was immediately fascinated at the site of the big apartment, and ran past the two adults’ legs to explore the place he’d be staying in for the weekend.

“That’s actually so ing cute.” Jongin had said upon seeing Baekhyun in the onesie.

Kyungsoo grimaced, “Please try not to swear in front of him.” He scolded.

“Don’t worry, I won’t. I have a one-hundred-percent foolproof kid filter.” The taller had replied, a self-satisfied smile etched onto his face.

“Is that even a thing?” Kyungsoo laughed despite himself.

Jongin gasped in mock offense, “Of course!”

“Right.” Kyungsoo smirked. “Well, text me if you need anything or if he needs anything… if there’s an emergency just call me instead and if you – ”

He was cut off by Jongin, “Hey. We’ll be fine. You go have a break and find yourself a babysitter, okay? I’ll let you know if anything happens.” He beamed and the smaller tried very hard not to stare at the row of perfect teeth that were presented to him.

He fidgeted for a moment before relenting, “Okay. Goodbye, say bye to Baekhyunnie for me.”

“I will. Bye.”

-

“So, buddy. What do you want to do today?” Jongin asked an obviously excited three-year-old that was seated on his couch watching some brainwashing children’s show.

Baekhyun turned his twinkling eyes from the TV to stare directly at Jongin, and the teacher would be lying if he said it wasn’t kind of unnerving.

“Can we get ice cream? And go to the park? And watch TV? Can we play swords? Or prince and princess?” The boy rambled and Jongin was finding it hard to keep up with him.

“Uh, sure. What do you want to do first?” He questioned. He really hoped it wasn’t prince and princesses. He had no doubt in his mind that he’d be the one playing the princess role. And he’s too old for that kind of stuff, even as a joke.

“Park!” Baekhyun exclaimed, arms raised into the air in a silent command for Jongin to pick him up.

This kid’s lucky he was cute.

“Alright, bud. Go put your shoes on.”

“Okay!” and the little one was gone in a flash.

Jongin was a little worried when he reappeared and coughed a few times, but Kyungsoo had said that the sickness was gone so he just assumed that the boy slightly choked on something. Probably air.

They left the apartment not long after, both with a spring in their step. It was going to be a long – but fun – weekend. For both of them.
