8. Eunjinie
In Search of Unrequited LoveEunjinie:
"His young step-mother."
She fails on purpose. Then again, what is her purpose? Insecure feelings eating her alive until she’s raw in the heart. Endure. She keeps telling herself. Maybe it will all go away someday. As time passes by, she only messes it up more. Her heart is a house made of cards, and everything will collapse soon. Everything she’s done has been complete darkness. Blind in denial.
Dashing into the office, Jisoo stares at an empty chair.
I thought I was late, but he’s not even here yet. Jisoo says to herself. She is about to settle down before hearing a small and high voice.
“Taehyungie,” the voice says. “Eunjinie is here!” The door opens and shuts as Jisoo quickly looks back. In view is a little girl in a school uniform. She stares--in shock-- at the older woman in staring back at her,
“Who are you?” Jisoo asks. She goes towards the girl and crouches down to her height.
“I’m Eunjin,” she says. “I’m looking for my oppa.”
“Ah,” Jisoo mumbles. “He’s not here right now.”
“Daddy lied!”
“E-Eunjin, why don’t we call him?” Jisoo stutters. “Wait a minute, who brought you here?”
Eunjin takes a piece of paper out of her pocket and hands it to Jisoo. Jisoo gladly takes the paper and opens it up to see a note.
Take care of her, or else.
“Who wrote this?” Jisoo asks.
“Daddy wrote it,” Eunjin replies--with a smile on her face. “Call Taehyungie, now!”
Jisoo flinches at the younger girl’s demand and whips out her phone. She presses on V’s caller ID and waits.
“What is it?” V questions. “I woke up late, but I’m on my way to the office right now.”
Jisoo hands the phone to Eunjin and lets her speak to the male.
“Taehyungie! It’s Eunjin!” She shouts into the phone. The call ends and Jisoo can hear the lady’s voice saying that the call has disconnected. “Oh, he hung up.”
On Eunjin’s face is a depressed expression. Jisoo is soon flustered as the little girl starts crying.
“D-Don’t c-cry,” Jisoo tells Eunjin. It’s all so overwhelming. No boss and a little girl.
Half an hour later after the meeting, Jisoo and Eunjin are seated with juice boxes. Over the time, Jisoo got to learn that Eunjin is V’s five year old sister. Judging Eunjin’s uniform, V’s family is definitely privileged: going to private schools, being watched over by secretaries, and being neglected by parents.
Is this what V’s childhood was like? Is this why he hates his father?
