We'll Be Okay

Description

Sooooo, this has been a WIP for a while now, it's just gonna be a two-shot so, enjoy~~~

“Remind me why I'm the one driving you again?” Yoongi drawled as he reversed the car out of the parking lot.

Because Jin is busy and you love me?” Taehyung spoke cheerfully, looking up at the older from under his eyelashes. Yoongi spared him a glance before making a left turn onto the main road. The kid was right but Yoongi was never going to admit that to his face.

“Hey Yoongi, I've got a request?” Jin asked him over his coffee and something inside the rapper dropped, but he nodded his head nonetheless, holding the others nervously embarrassed gaze.

Could you take Tae-ah to his hospital appointment on Tuesday? Something came up, I've gotta work all day.” The older spoke sheepishly and Yoongi sighed, rubbing circles into his temples. It's not that he didn't like Taehyung, the kid was a happy never-ending ball of sunshine and cute remarks, but the mint-haired boy honestly wasn't sure if he had enough patience for a road trip with the kid. He debated saying no before his eyes met Jin's and his friend was looking at him with such hope, bottom lip drawn into his mouth nervously, how could he let him down?

Fine. But, he's gotta be on his best behaviour.” He spoke bluntly, watching as Jin clapped his hands with a loud thank you and a wide smile spread over his face.

I am sorry to bother you about it though, Hyung, I know you don't like getting up early.” Taehyung pulled Yoongi from his memory, words slightly mauled by the lollipop currently sitting between his lips. Yoongi just laughed gently.

Well, you've gotta go, and if no-one else is available, I don't mind.” He spoke sincerely, smiling when Taehyung giggled, turning his head towards the window. Yoongi took the silence as a blessing and flicked the radio on, listening absentmindedly.

He was worried for Taehyung. The younger was sick, but he wouldn't tell anyone about it. He needed to get some kind of special treatment that their hometown hospital couldn't offer, so they had to travel two cities over. At first, Taehyung had refused to go. 'I'm fine, you're all worrying over nothing.' Yoongi hated that about him. The kid's heart was always open to everyone around him, even strangers, he put others before himself, holding Jungkook and whispering words of comfort all night while the younger cried his heart out, running to A&E when he heard Jimin got in an accident on his bike and never leaving his side, staying up until stupid hours of the morning when his brother couldn't sleep, accepting Namjoon's misplaced anger when his life fell apart, falling behind in his studies to make sure Hoseok's dance routine was perfect.

He'd even forgiven Yoongi for using his innocence and naivety for his own uses. And even though Taehyung would tell him it was fine, he wanted it too, he enjoyed it, Yoongi still felt the memory scratch and tear at his heart, guilt bruising his brain whenever he remembered the sinful way the youngers mouth opened or the hot feeling of his tanned skin. He knew it was consensual, but he hated himself none the less. He was angry and upset with the world, with his ex and needed an outlet. Taehyung just happened to be the only one home when he dropped by to ask Jin for a drinking night.

Hyung can we change the station, I hate this song.” Taehyung whined and the older blinked a few times, waving his hand.

Go ahead, there's some CD's in the glovebox if you wanna have a dig about.” Before he could even finish the sentence, he heard the sound of the compartment unlocking and the tanned boy rifling through his CD's.

Taehyung picked up a blank CD in a clear case, turning it around in his hands with interest, mouth slightly open as he opened up the case. He placed the CD in the port with awe, tanned fingers gliding over the play button. Yoongi's heart flew out of his body when he heard his own voice blare through the speakers, accidentally swerving the car lightly. Taehyung was watching him with wide eyes, glistening in amazement.

Is this you, Yoongi-Hyung?!” He spoke excitedly, hands coming up to his face. Yoongi sighed, he hated himself for not taking that CD out of the car. He nodded slowly, pouring all of his focus into driving. Taehyung hummed beside him, closing his eyes and leaning his head back. They stayed like that for the first few songs, the younger sporting a light smile.

You're really talented Yoongi-Hyung. The lyrics and the melody are amazing and every time I hear you rap my heart speeds up a little bit, you're amazing.” The softness of the youngers voice surprised the older as he pulled into a road-side services, finally paying full attention to the younger.

Thanks.” He mumbled, fiddling with his keys as he turned the engine off. “I need coffee so, you want anything?” He asked, quick to change the subject. Taehyung nodded and unbuckled his seatbelt, pulling himself out of the car, Yoongi mirroring the action. They entered silently and made a bee line to the cafe, Yoongi ordering a vanilla latte, Taehyung a caramel one. They found a seat by the window, Taehyung dropping down onto it gratefully. Yoongi watched him with careful eyes, hating the way his tanned skin pulled tightly over his face, defining his facial structure in a way that told the world he was sick.

“Yoongi can you come round?” Namjoon had asked, and if it wasn't for the frantic tone in his voice, Yoongi would've scolded him for addressing him as such. He'd slid his shoes on and run out of the apartment, telling the taller he'd be there in ten, maybe ignoring the speed limit as he sped out of his parking lot and to his friends apartment block.

When he got there he banged on the door, flying straight past Namjoon and into the living room. He skid to a halt when he saw Jin kneeling on the floor, hands holding up Taehyung's head in his lap as the other struggled to breath, faint breathes leaving his mouth. His best friend looked at him with tear filled eyes and Yoongi dropped down immediately, placed a hand against Taehyungs heart.

He passed out.” Namjoon spoke beside him, moving the youngers fringe out of his face to place a wet clothe on his forehead. Yoongi blinked.

I thought he was doing better.” He mumbled to himself, nodding when Namjoon asked if he'd be okay to look after him. Jin stood up slowly, trusting Yoongi with his younger brother as Namjoon led him to another room to try and calm him down. The pale man sat cross-legged, resting the youngers head in his lap and carded his hands gently through his hair.

Come on Taehyung-ah, wake up yeah?” He mumbled, his own eyes filling with tears. Taehyung had always been physically weak, he was born with an illness that Yoongi didn't really know anything about or understand, but his immune system and his heart were weak. The rapper scrunched his eyes up to try and stop himself from crying, jumping when a cold and unsteady hand was placed on his cheek. Opening his eyes, he looked down to see Taehyung smiling weakly at him. He wanted to scream, he wanted to cry, he wanted to laugh, he wanted to rip into the younger and tell him how ing worried he was. But instead he lifted him up until he was sat in his lap and wrapped his arms around him.

I'm sorry Hyung... I'm fine.” Taehyungs voice was so weak and it broke Yoongi's heart.

Jin had told him a few months ago that Taehyung's heart was getting worse, he needed to have something attached to it to get readings. That's where they were going now. Yoongi sipped at his coffee thoughtfully before Taehyung waved in front of his face.

What are you thinking about Hyung?” He asked curiously, tongue darting out to taste the foam on his drink. Yoongi swallowed hard.

Mostly about how much a headache I'm gonna have tonight.” The older mumbled, watching as Taehyung's eyes widened almost comically and his mouth set into a pout. Yoongi hid his smile behind his cup. Taehyung chewed on the inside of his lip slowly, deep in thought for a while.

If he was honest, he didn't want to go. The doctors and everyone around him were telling him he was sick, that his heart was weak, but he didn't feel anything was wrong. But when he saw his friends break down one by one, he started to think that maybe it was bad. When his brother cried for five hours straight, he wondered if he didn't notice because that's how it had been all of his life.

But it was Yoongi who made him finally go.

Taehyung this is ing ridiculous.” Yoongi practically spat, hand tugging violently at the tanned boys wrist. Taehyung was having none of it, hands clinging to his door-frame with all his strength. Yoongi gave up after another minute, letting go and grabbing the youngers shoulders, using his full strength this time. Unsurprisingly, Taehyung's weaker body came tumbling to the ground on top of Yoongi's.

I don't want to go Yoongi-Hyung! Why can't any of you understand that?!” Taehyung had yelled, tears in his eyes at this point. He was due to have another blood test in twenty minutes and he was sick of it. Doctors constantly approaching him with needles or thermometers or blood pressure machines or sticking stupid circles to various parts of his body to check his pulse. His skin was still marked from the stickers, his arm still hurt from the blood pressure band, his inner elbow had small angry red marks peeking out from every inch of his skin. The brunette found himself being turned over, lying face down on the floor while Yoongi led on top of him, wrapping his arms around him properly and burying his face into his back. Taehyung was about to ask what the hell he was doing before the warm dampness soaking through his shirt silenced any words.

Why can't you understand this Taehyung?! You think we like looking at the remains of your tests? Do you think we do this for some kind of sick pleasure? We ing care for you, you idiot! And I know, I know you hate the needles and the tests, I hate them too but, you need them Taehyung.” Taehyung blinked his eyes closed and Yoongi's grip on his shirt tightened. “None of us want to see you hospitalised again, none of us want that worry again. For once, just this once in your god damn life, could you do something for yourself, please Taehyung-ah?” Yoongi's voice was shaking and Taehyung's heart shattered at the sound. He shook his head lightly.

I can't Yoongi-hyung... I'm scared. Everytime I leave the hospital my head is clouded with paranoia and nerves, what if they come back worse, what if something is really wrong one day Hyung? What do I do then?” Taehyung whimpered, Yoongi pulling him up onto the bed and sitting the younger in his lap, pale hand placed lightly on his cheek as they both watched the other cry silently.

I know it's scary, Taehyung-ah. But that's why you need to go. If something does get worse, they need to know immediately.” He took a deep breath, leaning forward slightly, eyes never leaving Taehyung's.

If you can't do it for you... Can you do it for me?”

They'd headed back to the car, both deep in thought as Taehyung remembered that day, remembered the way his hyungs walls had crumbled entirely. When he sat back down in the car, Yoongi was already switching the CD's. They pulled off soon after and Taehyung watched Yoongi in adoration, admiring his profile.

He knew Yoongi beat himself up about what happened between them. He knew he felt guilty, like he'd used him and no matter how many times Taehyung told him it was fine, he wouldn't believe him. He wondered if he had thought about it recently, and suddenly his mouth had opened, words forming before he could stop them.

Yoongi-hyung, you know I enjoyed that night with you right?” He blurted out, inwardly cursing his lack of brain to mouth filter as Yoongi stiffened, lungs filling with a deep breath.

I don't want to talk about that Taehyung-ah.” He spoke coldly, void of emotion. Taehyung shrunk back at the tone, hands coming up over his heart as he felt that familiar feeling arrive. The feeling of hollow hurt and numbness. He felt words bubbling in his throat, words of truth he'd sworn would never reach the older.

Taehyung had realised he was crushing on Yoongi the second time the older had come round, three years ago. Taehyung had marvelled at his earrings and his style, the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed and his little gummy smile. His voice when he was amused.

The way his jeans fit around his legs perfectly, the way his eyes would darken when he spaced out, the way his tongue would peek out of his mouth, the way he would accidentally slip back into satoori dialoge.

Taehyung knew he was screwed that day. And it never ceased, he found himself asking Jin when Yoongi was coming round next, when he was seeing him next, if he could tag along. Jin took no notice of it, thinking Taehyung just really liked his best friend and gladly extended invites (within reason) to his younger brother.

Taehyung reached for a sweet in his bag, unwrapping it and popping it in his mouth, eyes trained on Yoongi's pale, boney hands. The way his veins stuck out no matter what was really attractive to the younger.

The banging at the door made Taehyung jump as he glanced at his phone to check the time. The small screen read 11:35 and he wondered who was coming by so late at night, considering Jin was staying with Namjoon that night and Jimin or Jungkook would have told him if they were coming over. He shuffled out of his bedroom and to the front door, eyeing it carefully before opening it. His face relaxed the moment he noticed who was on the other side, a wide grin taking over his face.

Yoongi-hyung! How come you're here so late?” He asked cheerfully, stepping aside to let the shorter in. Yoongi threw his jacket on the armchair in the front room before sitting heavily on the sofa.

Yah, Jin, you here?” He yelled, eyeing Taehyung when he followed after him, fidgeting with the bottom of his jumper.

Jinnie's staying at Joonie-Hyung's tonight...” He spoke quietly, watching as Yoongi 's face grew dark, annoyed almost. The shorter nodded stiffly, grabbing his jacket.

Sorry to bother you then Taehyung-ah, sleep well.” He spoke bluntly. Taehyung blinked a few times before spinning on his heel and catching the others wrist. The glare Yoongi shot him almost made him let go but, he wanted to know what was wrong.

Yoongi-hyung... Could you.. Stay a little longer?” The brunette mumbled and Yoongi cursed under his breath but nodded anyway, following with hesitant footsteps when Taehyung led him to his room and led them both down on the bed, the taller quickly snuggling into his side. “You can talk to me you know?” Taehyung spoke softly, cutely, as he traced light circles over Yoongi's stomach.

The older stared at the ceiling for what felt like eternity, toying with the idea in his head. He laughed bitterly.

There's not much to say kid. I'm just bitter and angry with the world.” Yoongi spoke brutally and Taehyung's heart broke a little bit. His hyung didn't deserve to feel that way. He deserved to be happy and loved, to see the wonders of the light, to feel love and care. And Taehyung wanted nothing more than to tell the older how much he loved him, how much he cared for him, how much of the light he could show him of the world. He leant up carefully, stilling only when his face was hovering above Yoongi's. Taking nervous breaths, his eyes landed on Yoongi's lips.

Taehyung whatever the hell you're up too ju-” Yoongi was cut off by a warm pair of lips on his own, moving hesitantly. Yoongi stared straight ahead of him for a few seconds, honestly too shocked to do anything.

But Taehyung was pliant in his hands. The kid was head over heels for him, Yoongi wasn't blind. And he'd be lying if he said he had no feelings for the younger. His stupid box-smile engraved itself in Yoongi's memory since day one, his stupid laugh in his heart since day two. But Taehyung was too pure. Too cute. Too innocent. Yoongi was tainted and rude, he had clouds shadowing him, and he didn't want them to block Taehyung's sunshine.

But the feeling of the youngers lips was too tempting, so he lifted his hand to the back of his tanned neck and returned the kiss, relishing in the gasp that left the youngers lips. Yoongi took this chance to slide his tongue into Taehyung's mouth, exploring it with curiosity. When Taehyung pulled away, Yoongi admired the light flush on his cheeks, the glaze in his eyes and his slightly bruised lips. They stared into each others eyes before Yoongi guided the younger back down, placing a soft, gentle kiss on his lips. Taehyung smiled and pulled away, staring at Yoongi with such happiness that the older felt his heart burst.

There was something good right in front of him, something that he could take, something that would make him happy, something that would make him feel alive. He rolled them over so he was leaning over the younger, Taehyung's hair spreading out around his head and Yoongi bit his bottom lip, hand trailing along his jaw.

You're really pretty, Taehyung-ah.” He spoke quietly, admiring the blush his words placed on the tallers skin. He soon reattached their mouths, laughing gently at how eager Taehyung was this time.

Taehyung's eyes glanced at the dashboard, groaning at the digital clock reading 11:45. They still had atleast two hours to go and the atmosphere was tense, choking Taehyung as he blinked his eyes rapidly. He hated annoying Yoongi, for a number of reasons. One, the older had a terrifying and authoritative atmosphere when he was in a bad mood. Two, Taehyung only want the older to smile, to be happy, and it annoyed and hurt him that he'd just taken another smile from him.

He stretched his arms in front of him and lightly traced the small scars dotted around his arms. He never healed well, so every needle that was placed into his skin had a 98% chance of scarring. Poking at each one and counting them out silently, Taehyung began to mindlessly giggle at the sheer amount of them.

Yoongi had slowed the car to a stop, cursing under his breath about traffic when he glanced at the younger. His eyes softened when he realised Taehyung was greeting each mark with an energy that told Yoongi this was practised. Taehyung did it to make himself feel happier and better about them. He watched silently for a while before he reached over to take Taehyung's hand in his own, smiling at the contrast in skin colour. The brunette's mouth formed a small 'o' as he met Yoongi's eyes.

I didn't mean to snap at you Tae-ah.” Yoongi spoke quietly and Taehyung shook his head, box-smile adorning his face.

It's okay, I shouldn't have mentioned it.” He shrugged, linking his and Yoongi's fingers. There was silence again before Taehyung was fidgeting about in his seat. Sometimes he wanted to tell the older how he actually felt, but he knew he couldn't. Taehyung let himself settle for the warm hand in his, playing slightly with their fingers.

“Where are you goin'?” Taehyung asked, voice heavily laced with sleep as he watched Yoongi pull his shirt back on.

Home.” The older stated blankly and Taehyung sat up, eyebrows drawn together. Yoongi just sighed and turned towards him. “Look it's not... It's not that I didn't enjoy that because I did but I have to go because my head is so screwed up at the moment and...” He cut himself off, eyes stuck on the bruises littering Taehyungs skin, briefly wondering how the younger was going to hide them from Jin. Taehyung just pouted.

I... Don't want you too leave...” He murmured, pulling the quilt higher so just his eyes were showing and Yoongi almost stayed. Almost.

I know kid, but, let me sort out my head first yeah? We'll talk about this another time.” Yoongi stepped over to place a light kiss atop the others head before leaving, Taehyung whispering an almost silent goodbye after him.

Taehyung looked outside the window and immediately deflated.

Yoongi-hyung it's raining... Even the weather thinks this .” He mumbled, lips forming a pout at the rain as he mentally tried to banish it. Yoongi just laughed.

Maybe it's your mood, if you're not happy then the world will know.” He spoke easily, trying to hide his smile at the shocked expression on Taehyung's face. Taehyung quickly painted a smile on his face, sitting up straight. They'd passed the traffic and Taehyung had ditched CD's for the Aux cord instead, forcing Yoongi to listen to his favourite bands. Not that the older minded, their music taste could be similar at times. They were an hour from the hospital when Yoongi stopped at another services, Taehyung blinking at him in confusion.

Gotta piss.” Was all Yoongi offered before he was slamming his car door, Taehyung scrambling out after him. They walked into the building side by side, Yoongi drifting over to the toilets as Taehyung moved to the small store. He found himself staring at the selection of bottled drinks for almost ten minutes, finally picking up two bottles of water and a cold hazelnut tea drink for himself. After paying for them he waited by the car for Yoongi.

It was when he was crouching beside the car, phone in his hand that his vision started to sway. He shook his head, holding it with one hand as he pocketed his phone and moved to sit on the ground. His breathing became more laboured and he inwardly cursed, ignoring the glances he could feel on him from people passing him by.

Time seemed to slow down and speed up all at once as he stared at his knees, brain focused on controlling his breathing but it was getting harder, his vision was getting blurry, his hearing sounding fuzzy and drowned, his body starting to feel a little bit numb. He didn't register the sound of someone running, the low cursing, the hands on his shoulders or the voice calling out his name before he passed out.

Foreword

Taehyung's heart was too big for others, considering how weak it physically was.
