Description

It was just a silly promise made between two kids who were moving and would probably never see each other again. Jongdae never imagined the same promise they made 13 years ago would still be in effect to this very day.

Foreword

Jongdae ran to the secret hideout that he shared with his best friend Junmyeon. He ran as fast as he could, hoping that Junmyeon hadn’t left yet. Junmyeon was moving away and Jongdae had to see him one more time before he left or he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself.

He wasn’t trying to be late, but his mom wouldn’t let him leave until he finished all of his vegetables at dinner. It took him a little longer because he hated broccoli. He really didn’t mean to be late.

But much to Jongdae’s luck, Junmyeon was still there, sitting down under a tree and tracing words into the ground with his fingers. He finally reached Junmyeon, completely out of breath.

“You’re late.” Junmyeon commented, and stood to face him.

“I know. I’m sorry. My mom wouldn’t let me go until I finished my vegetables.” Junmyeon laughed lightly.

“Did you bring it?”

“Yup. My favorite scarf. It’s all yours now.” Jongdae chirped and wrapped the scarf around Junmyeon’s neck. He smiled seeing how good it looked on him. It was a black scarf with blue diamonds printed on it. Inside the diamonds were white ‘J’s for Jongdae. It was one of a kind.

It was a gift he got for his birthday two years ago and he loved it very much. He gave it to Junmyeon because he wanted his goodbye gift to be something meaningful. He loved Junmyeon dearly and wanted to show him how much he treasured their friendship by giving him his most prized possession.

Junmyeon smiled brightly. “Are you sure you want to give this to me? I know how much you like this scarf.” He questioned. Jongdae just nodded. Junmyeon didn’t question him further and pulled a watch from his pocket. He placed it on Jongdae’s wrist. It was a little too big for him.

“No fair Junmyeon. This looks really expensive.” Jongdae whined.

“It’s not about the price Jongdae. My grandfather gave it to me before he passed away and told me to take good care of it. Now I’m passing it on to you. I want you to take good care of it and have something you’ll always remember me by.” He said holding onto Jongdae’s hand.

“Okay. I will.”

“And promise me something.”

“What is it?” Jongdae asked looking down at the shiny gold watch on his wrist.

“Promise me that when we’re older we’ll find each other and be together. Kind of like how our parents are together.” Junmyeon said. When Jongdae looked up, Junmyeon’s face was a bright red color.

Jongdae didn’t know exactly what he meant by that, but if they were going to be together, it was enough for him. He smiled and nodded. “I promise.”

“Okay.. well I have to go now..” Junmyeon shuffled his feet. Jongdae hugged Junmyeon tightly. He feared that if he didn’t do anything, he would probably cry and ruin everything. He didn’t want that. He had to be strong for Junmyeon’s sake.

“Goodbye Junmyeon.” Jongdae turned away from him. He was about walk away, when Junmyeon grabbed his hand and turned him around.

“Junmyeon what-” Before Jongdae could finish his sentence, he felt a soft pair of lips on his. It only lasted a second, but it was enough to get Jongdae’s heart beating triple time.

“Bye.” Junmyeon said quietly and ran away.
