Fading Spectacles pt. 1 (Fluff)

“I write because you exist.”

Yunhyeong read, it’s not like he isn’t fond of reading poems - he really isn’t, he likes sci-fi or fantasy books better - but the charming guy sitting a few feet across from him was making his stay at the library worthwhile. Yunhyeong was just supposed to borrow a book he needs for history but somewhere between seeing the charming guy across book shelves and almost tripping on his own feet, he decided to stay.

Yunhyeong can’t really remember if the charming guy is in one of his classes or not, either he is and he’s one of those students who seats in the front row of the class or Yunhyeong’s too occupied to notice. The charming guy looks like the type to seat at the first row of the class with his round glasses and clean cut plus he looks like he’s enjoying reading that physics book he got when Yunhyeong saw him.

A ring of the school bell made Yunhyeong flinch as he realized he still has math to deal with. He looked at the charming guy and saw that he was standing and collecting his things too so Yunhyeong got up and left the library.

Attending math class was something Yunhyeong isn’t looking forward to. He’s always late and is actually close to failing the subject but he can’t really afford to fail so he’s praying to the heavens his professor wouldn’t notice him if he comes in late… again.

He has to stop staring at that charming guy at the library who seems to be only in the library at that time, which results to Yunhyeong getting late most of the time. It’s been a week ever since Yunhyeong saw the guy, with Bobby’s continuous complaint of “stop staring at him and just go talk to him!” Yunhyeong still couldn’t bring himself to approach the charming guy, whose smile literally makes Yunhyeong’s day brighter.

Somewhere between brisk walking and miscalculated steps, Yunhyeong found himself tangled in a mess of papers and a person who unwillingly threw himself onto him.

“Sorry!” The person said, immediately latching himself off of Yunhyeong. It was a blur and when Yunhyeong stood up, the guy was collecting the papers on the floor. Yunhyeong quickly helped the guy and was staring intently, wondering who it was.

“It’s okay.” Yunhyeong suddenly said and the guy raised his head.

“What?” He said and Yunhyeong couldn’t help but gape like a fish. It was the charming guy he would always see in the library.

Yunhyeong could feel his heart swell, he finally saw him up close. His hair slightly covering his eyes, his glasses having fallen off when they bumped into each other, but Yunhyeong can still see the way his eyes sparkle. His cheeks painted pink, probably from the embarrassment of bumping accidentally to someone. Yunhyeong noticed how cute his nose is and his pink plump lips curled up into a shy smile. Yunhyeong let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding, the guy in front of him looked ethereal and Yunhyeong could honestly stare at him all day.

The guy waved a hand on his face and Yunhyeong broke out of his thoughts,

“What?” The guy repeated and Yunhyeong cleared his throat,

“I mean uh-- since you uh, said sorry so i-- it’s okay.” He said and Yunhyeong mentally facepalmed himself for stuttering. What the hell happened to Jinhwan’s “you’re a friendly guy, you won’t have a problem talking to him.”? He didn’t even realize he was nervous until he opened his mouth to speak.

“Okay.” The guy said before collecting the papers again and Yunhyeong helped him. They were quiet, there’s nothing to talk about and Yunhyeong ponders whether he should ask a question or not but before he could, the guy stood up and Yunhyeong passed him the papers he picked. Yunhyeong saw the guy’s glasses near the lockers and he picked it up, wiping it before placing it on his face and Yunhyeong could see a faint blush on his cheeks and he smiled.

“Thanks for the help.” The guy said, smiling shyly and Yunhyeong wondered why the guy has a stack of papers with him.

“Uh, do you need help? I mean that’s a lot of papers you got there and…” Yunhyeong trailed off. He has math to deal with but forget it, if the guy agrees he’s going to forget math for the mean time.

“Sure, but don’t you have classes?”

“Well, I’m pretty sure helping a school mate is reasonable enough to skip classes.” Yunhyeong answered and the guy hummed in return.

“I’m Song Yunhyeong by the way.”

“Donghyuk. Kim Donghyuk.” The guy, now Donghyuk, said and Yunhyeong could feel butterflies erupting in his stomach because he finally knew his name. The name he’d been wanting to know and the name he’d been wanting to say all along.

Kim Donghyuk. The charming guy who Yunhyeong always see in the library, reading a book with his eyes trained downwards and his glasses hanging at the bridge of his nose.

Kim Donghyuk. The charming guy that had Yunhyeong running late for class. The one he wants to see every day and the one he wants to look at all day long.

Kim Donghyuk. The charming guy Yunhyeong is ready to have his heart broken for.
