Foreword

August 22nd, 1910. In front of Lee Wan-Young, the Prime Minister of Korea, was a piece of paper. It was also the future of Korea.

He sighed as he looked at the paper, reading it over carefully even though he already did so for more than he could count. The signature of the Japanese emperor caught his eye. Terauchi Masatake seemed so much more powerful than him. If he didn't sign it, there was a possibility of getting beheaded on the spot. Of course, the Japanese government would simply say it was an “accident”, and that would be that.

How easy it was, to end one’s life.

If he signed it, the process to hand Korea over to Japan would be complete. He could imagine the chaos and the uprisings that would follow, but it was time for a nation to step down. Korea was already half gone, and there was no point in trying to salvage it. Perhaps, this could be a chance for a better life. For him, at least. After all, the Japanese promised him that he would be well-treated if he signed the document.

He wanted to live.

It's for the better.

He lifted his pen and wrote the single character representing himself. Then, he pressed his stamp firmly against the paper. Lee Wan-Young let go of the breath he was holding. It was over, just like that.

Lee Wan-Young exchanged the life of the Korean Empire for his that day.

The treaty officially became valid on August 29th, 1910. The cries of protest were ignored by the officials as the life of their people were slowly torn apart. The blood of countless people were shed. Protestants’ tears watered the Japanese land.

There needed to be something done.

*TRIGGER WARNING*

If you see that written before a chapter, that means it will contain some sensitive material. This fic is about war. However I didn't want to mark this whole story as M because there won't be that much trigger warning scenes plus people usually connect M rated stories as p o r n and that's NOT the image I want this particular story to have.
