Moments like this one were rare, but that only made them even more beautiful and precious. It was that rarity that kept me from leaning up and pressing a kiss to his slightly parted lips to wake him up.

“Why me?” he muttered. My brows furrowed in curiosity. Was he talking in his sleep? It wasn’t like him to do that, but I knew that it did happen to people on occasion. Of course, I couldn’t really relate, since I’d been known to have full conversations with people while still off in a dreamland.

But, when I snapped out of my wandering thoughts, I realized his eyes were opened into small slits and looking down at me.

“Mmm,” I hummed, “you’re awake! But what are you asking?”

He rolled over, facing me and blocking my view of the sea outside. His leg slid between my own, creating a cushion between my knees, as he knew I didn’t like for them to be touching. “Why me? Why do you stay with me, when most of the time, this is the extent of our so called dates? Don’t you ever get bored of this? Don’t you ever get lonely when I’m too busy working or off sleeping instead? You could have anyone else in the world, someone more fun and adventurous, so why me?”
