Making the same mistakes again..?
Just too little too late..
It’s minutes.. maybe hours (hard to tell) before either of them moves. Both are afraid to break the spell so all that fills the room is the sound of raspy breaths and the intense pounding of two hearts.
Hyoyeon closes her eyes and tries her best to do the same for her brain which is sounding alarm bells like she was the Seoul Fire Department or something. She had decided two years ago that she would be a smart girl who puts her head before her heart AND she had managed to stick to the game-plan.. but that was because he wasn’t in the picture.
If she had a weakness in the entire world – it was him.
For his part, Hyukjae feels like he is floating in heaven – it has to be because what he has longed for, prayed for all this time has finally come true. She is in his arms – he inhales deeply basking in her familiar scent, in the warmth of her body.
She is his one and only true love - his home.
They are already close but Hyukjae can’t take it. He wants more so he lowers his arms to circle her slender waist – they still wrap around perfectly – and he nuzzles his nose against her neck. She shivers and then lets out a long sigh.. he feels her hands hovering over his and can’t stop himself from whispering, “Don’t think, Hyo.”
Her hands come to rest on top of his and she rolls her head to the side giving him more access to her ravishing throat. The air inside the closed dark room grows hotter as their suppressed desires threaten to erupt to the surface.. Hyoyeon's mind is close to having a meltdown so she finally gives in and tilts her face offering him her lips to replace her neck..
But Hyukjae stops suddenly.
“This is wrong.”
The hands around her waist drop.
Hyoyeon’s eyes fly open..
the trance is broken.
“Hyoyeonah, I…”
“Don’t worry!” she stops him from saying anything more. It’s her fault as much as his. “It’s okay. Let’s just forget this ever happened. It was..” she babbles while trying to fix hair, “a momentary lapse in judgment. We have history and we just got caught up in the moment.”
Hyukjae listens to her and then brushes past her, making his way to the door
Hyoyeon feels just a tiny twinge of regret.. and hurt.
‘Was it so easy for him?’
Hyukjae is at the door now and without sparing a glance at her, he swings it open.
Hyoyeon looks away.. she cannot bear to see him walk away.
Luckily her office floor is covered with thick shag carpeting so she can avoid listening to his retreating footsteps as well.
Now if only there was a way for her to shut off her mind from replaying everything that had transpired since their first encounter to those heated moments a few minutes ago.
Mechanically, she turns around and drags her feet to where her desk should be – it’s still too dark to make anything out in the room but her knee brushes against the edge of the desk. She leans against it – feeling exhausted all of a sudden.
‘It’s alright.. he’s not here anymore.. I can break down now..’ her body slips from the desk and starts to sink pathetically to the floor,
when a sudden burst of light floods through the room.
Hyukjae reaches her side in an instant pulling her up flush against himself.
“I was trying to find the light switch. Did you think I left?” he questions her – his voice deathly serious.
Hyoyeon doesn’t answer.
“Let me rephrase,” his voice is a gentler, “did you care when you thought I left?”
Hyoyeon still can’t bring herself to answer. If she does, things are going to get complicated. She would be breaking an important vow.
But under the bright lights, Hyukjae doesn’t need words – he can read her thoughts through her eyes. There is still something there.
And it doesn’t matter to him anymore if she has been with anyone besides him – as long as she chooses him. He doesn’t care if he goes to hell for trying to steal another man’s woman – he will take his punishment and hers as well.
