Home Run.

Home Run

"Checking out Son again, eh?" A blonde tomboy nudged their captain's side which caused the girl to snap out of her trance.

"W-what? Huh? No?" Irene abruptly stood up to dust off her spandex as she avoided Amber's knowing look.

The two had just finished their practice and are now freely hanging out in the field, watching other teams practice their forté of sports.

"Tsk. Denial. Everyone knows you have hots for her, Miss Joohyun Bae." Irene choked on Amber's bluntness. And much like a reflex, Irene's hand smacked Amber's arm which resulted into a scandalously loud noise.

But Irene was everything but apologetic.

"I do not! Seungwan isn't my type!" Irene continued to deny although she knows about her obvious Crimson cheeks that are currently flaunting.

"Oh, so it's Seungwan now eh? What ever happened to Wendy-ssi?" Amber went on with her teasing, enjoying Irene's irritated face.

And much to Irene's dismay, Yeri decided to join their little gathering.

"Unnie!" The youngest excitedly ran to their spot on the highest space of the bleachers.

"Yerim-ah!" Amber welcomed the girl with open arms as she couldn't help but ruffle the girl's hair, unable to resist Yeri's cuteness.

"What are you guys talking about?"

"The usual, you know, Irene unnie's eye candy~"

Here we go again.. Irene mentally groaned knowing that she will never hear the end of this. Especially from her own teammates.

"Oh you mean Wendy unnie? I was just talking to her! She's so nice." Yeri's infamous grin appeared as her encounter with Wendy replayed in her mind.

At the mention of the girl's name. Irene's attention was immediately taken. Subtly eavesdropping to the other two's conversation as she pretended to look around the field.

"What did you talk about?" Amber pried on as she knew that their lovesick leader was low key listening.

"Just her practices and work outs. She said she's been trying to get fit for their upcoming competition. And judging by her story, she works out a lot. And it's kind of obvious, I guess? Since her abs are a clear show." The image of Wendy's toned abdomen flashed in Irene's mind, as her gaze unknowingly focused on a certain brunette running around the field diamond with the rest of her team.

Irene wondered what was so funny as she continued to stare at the girl's laughing figure.

Although covered in dirt from trying to dive for the base, Irene thought that still Wendy shone brightly.

In Irene's mind, Wendy was still hot as ever.

Okay, maybe Amber wasn't completely wrong. Maybe she does have a tad bit of a crush on #77 from their school's baseball team.

The pitcher of SM High Bears, Wendy Son Seungwan

~•~•~•~

Irene couldn't help but roll her eyes at the sight of another bouquet in sight that was now blocking her way. She tried to count but a specific number didn't appear to mind.

Not again

"I'm sorry. I already have a date, Seunghoon-ssi.." Like a record, Irene repeated once again. From a few meters away, she can make out the sight of Joy and Seulgi giggling together. She knows that they are laughing at her for breaking another heart. And foremost, lying.

Irene doesn't have a date. She lied her way through to get away from the hoard of people wanting to get in her pants.

As the poor guy left with a distraught face, Irene rushed her way to the duo, making their way to the locker room.

"It seems like everyone has asked you but the one you actually want to go with." Seulgi snickered as she settled in front of the mirror, fixing her bow as she started getting ready for the football team's game later.

"Who knows? Wendy unnie might have a date already? I heard she's gotten asked multiple times already." If Irene was upset at what joy had said, she didn't show it.

"What about you Joy? Do you have a date already?" Seulgi fixed the glitter on her eye makeup, eyeing the younger beside her.

"Do you even know me? Irene unnie isn't the only one here that's gotten asked. I'm going with Sungjae! I'm so excited. He sang to me earlier so of course I had to say yes! He was so prince-like!" Joy sighed dreamily, getting caught up in her own world as she curled her hair, turning it into beautiful raven locks.

"Hmm, I'm going with Jimin! Gosh have you seen him dance? Hot!" The two cheerleaders continued to chat over their dates. Meanwhile, Irene stared blankly in her own reflection.

'Does Seungwan already have a date?'

Irene continued to day dream about her dream girl, procrastinating in the process.

"Unnie! Hurry up with you make up, we're almost done here!" Irene did not notice the tick of the clock as she was too busy thinking about #77 and how hot she looked in her baseball uniform. Irene could only bite her lower lip at the thought of those tight pants curving Wendy's asset perfectly. Although, Irene would never verbally confess her love for those tight jersey as it hugged Seungwan's behind just how Irene likes it.

Seungwan Son, #77 in diamond field but number 1 in my heart

Irene almost smacked herself awake at the overly greasy line.

Nope. Never again

•••

For the 20th time, Irene had to get up from her seat to cheer for their team's touch down. If she were to brag, yes their school was one of best. But frankly, this was the worst part. Was that she had to repeat the same line, too many times to the point of losing count. But as the responsibility of the captain, she must.

If only she were at a baseball game. Then she would so enthusiastically cheer for her player's name. Irene's thoughts once again wandered as she dreamt of cheering for Wendy. How the girl flashes a charming grin towards the bleachers whenever she safely lands on the base and if fortunate, a home run. How the girl's sweat trickled down her luscious neck as if teasing Irene, tempting the girl more than she already is.

Oh how badly Irene wanted to wipe Wendy's face, imagining the girl's thankful smile to Irene's actions.

Or how Wendy would send her a proud smirk, winking at Irene after they announce the team's victory. How Irene would run to her lover's arms, congratulating her with a shower of kisses. The way Wendy's scent would still be alluring, no matter how hard the girl ran and worked her toned arms, pitching. How attracted Irene would be at the musky scent of Seungwan, unable to resist the temptation of burying her face on the girl's neck and taking in as much as she could of her lover's y essence.

Irene's imagination took her further as she pictured herself coming over to Wendy's apartment after the game and lounging peacefully as she waited for the girl to finish showering, heading for a victorious dinner date.

Irene wanted it all to happen. She wanted her and Wendy to happen.

Because her favourite kind of cliché was the Baseball player and Cheer Captain's story.

The next thing she knew, the football game was over and to no one's surprise, her school won the match. Last time she checked, there was still another quarter to finish. Her ability to day dream was more than to her expectation.

They were all ready to head back to school where the students' cars were located and of course, the shower rooms.

And after half an hour trip, they finally made their way back to school. It was already half past 8 and the school was clear of students. Having to wait another thirty minutes for her ride, Irene decided to walk towards the field, finding it relaxing as she could almost imagine a certain someone, practicing. The thought of Wendy has always kept Irene calm and secured. Just thinking about the girl made the latter feel at ease.

Comfortably laying on the highest step of the bleachers, Irene observed the beautiful starry night along with what seemed brighter than usual, crescent moon. The night sky seemed perfect.

Irene could feel the bleacher shake as she heard footsteps getting heavier. Alarmed by the Unknown presence, Irene jolted up and faced the direction of the noise from earlier. Much to her surprise, it was Seungwan.

What was she doing out here so late? Irene could easily say the same thing to herself but that was not important at the moment. What matters was the the girl she has dreamt of for so long, was now only a few steps away from her.

Keep cool, Irene. You've practiced this before. Irene mentally chanted repeatedly.

"Aren't you cold?" The girl's husky yet soothing voice rang in Irene's ear, quickening the latter's heart rate. She had never heard the girl's voice up close. This close.

"Me? Oh, um no, I guess? A little bit." Irene's voice slowly lowered until it was barely audible. Wendy could only thank the silent atmosphere as she was still able to take a good taste of the older's incredibly soft voice.

Irene became frozen as she heard the younger's angelic laughter. It must've been from the way Irene stuttered. She doesn't quite know but Wendy found her quite adorable.

Without a word, Wendy minimized the distance between them as he walked closer, making herself comfortable beside the older. "Here."

Irene jumped in surprised for the second time as she felt quite a thick cloth being hanged on her shoulders.

"It's hard to recover from a cold these days, so don't catch one. That's quite a thick jacket, so I doubt you'll feel the breeze as much." It was almost amazing how casual Wendy made her actions to be. Like she had been doing such things for a while.

It's only then that Irene was able to get a good whiff of the jacket. Irene almost drowned herself in the addicting scent as she enveloped herself more, tightening the heavy clothing around her body. For quite a vertically challenged girl, Wendy sure had a large jacket. But the size felt just right.

Wendy couldn't help but let out a relieved smile as she the other's content smile. "It's warm, right? I use that jacket whenever we have practices and it's chilly out. Sometimes, during games."

Irene could feel her face slowly get warm at the statement.

This was Wendy's jacket. The jacket she uses wherever she plays. This must be what she smells like after the games or even practices.

Irene unknowingly flashed a proud smile as she tightened the jacket even more, curving her body quite noticeably now. "It's warm. And it smells nice..

"What was that? I didn't quite catch that" Wendy could have sworn that the girl had mumbled something but due to the lowered volume, she could not catch the girl's words.

"Oh nothing. Oh, and I've seen you play.. You're really good." The shorter, let out a pleased smile as she heard the girl's compliment.

"Thank you, Irene-ssi. I appreciate the compliment." Wendy couldn't stop herself from chuckling at her overly formal words. If Seulgi was there to witness the scene, she would have teased Wendy to the ends of the earth.

"You.. Know me?" Irene was taken aback after hearing her name come out of the younger's lips.

"Of course! Your name isn't exactly a secret around, you know." A certain tone in Wendy's voice makes Irene believe that the girl was teasing.

Oh god. What kind of good deed have I done to be blessed with such a night.

Irene silently thank the heavens for giving her such an opportunity to get close with, one can say as the girl of her dreams. Literally.

Feeling a little bold, Irene was able to muster up, "if you could drop the formalities, it would be greatly appreciated, Seungwan."

It was Wendy's turn to be taken by surprise as the older had just called her by her real name. No one except for her family calls her Seungwan. Not even Seulgi, whom she's been with for years or her satanic junior Joy or her favourite dongsaeng, Yeri. They don't exactly call her Wendy but with a nickname based off of the word.

"So, Irene unnie, then?" Wendy cautiously asked.

Wendy couldn't help but smile seeing the other's approval nod.

"You don't mind me calling you Seungwan, right?" There it was again. Such a foreign word, even to Wendy.

But maybe she could get used to it again. After all, something about Irene's voice makes it sound right

"Yes of course not, unnie. I'd love that."

They both exchanged a knowing smile. None of the two knew what the smile meant but something was definitely behind the sugary curved pair of lips.

Silence surrounded the air for a few minutes until Wendy decided to break it.

"It's almost 9, unnie. Aren't you planning on going home?"

With that, Irene's senses came back to her as she hastily fished out her phone. Attempting to call her older brother, a text popped in Irene's screen.

From: Suhoppa

Sorry, can't pick you up. I have a dinner date and I can't cancel. Take a cab and I'll pay you back later.

20:54

Why only now? He could've told me that earlier then I could've gotten a ride from Amber.

Irene was now slightly irritated as she didn't know she let out a frustrated sigh.

Which of course, did not go unnoticed by Wendy.

"What's wrong?" A slight worry was hinted in Wendy's voice as she fumbled with her car keys.

"My brother. He can't pick me up. He could've told me earlier when Amber was still around but he decided to cancel at the last minute." Irene Ruffled her hair as she gripped tightly on to Wendy's jacket. The inhaled a lungful of the scent and to her favour, it managed to calm her down. Something about Wendy's scent was too addicting.

"If you don't mind, I can give you a ride." Wendy timidly offered as she played with her car keys. Twirling the hoop with her fingers.

"What? Are you sure?"

"Yes, why not? And it's very unsafe to be out at this late. Some cab drivers are dangerous. Especially when stuck alone with a beautiful girl. Now let's go." Not waiting to Irene to speak further, Wendy slung Irene's gym bag over her shoulder and started walking.

Irene had to choice but to follow the other girl. Walking a few steps behind, Irene was able to get a good look of the girl's back view. Wendy was simply wearing black joggers and a white semi-see through wind breaker matched by her white adidas superstars. Due to the pressure that Irene's bag was giving, the older could make out the flexed muscle on Wendy's shoulder and bicep as the girl gripped on to Irene's bag strap, refraining it from slipping off.

Irene was sure having a good view. It was clear and admirable. This was clearly way better than admiring her from afar.

Wendy is totally hot. Irene quietly mumbled as she continued ogling at the younger's body, all the way until they reached the parking lot.

As they reached the car, Irene came up with the conclusion that Wendy sure was rich. Or as the young teens aka Yeri would call it, loaded. Wendy was loaded.

Like the gentle(wo)man that Irene pictured her to be, Wendy didn't hesitate opening the door for the blonde. Even waiting for the girl to get in before closing the door, smiling after hearing a faint "thank you" from the girl.

She quickly ran to the driver's seat. Checking Irene's condition who seemed to be playing tug-o-war with the seatbelt, Wendy leaned in, mumbling a hushed "let me" before gently pulling the safety gear and sliding it across Irene before locking it safely in place. She heard the girl's breath hitch and that was the moment she noticed her own heart's abnormal pace. The way it was racing too quickly. The way she unknowingly held back her breath as she saw Irene's flustered face that seemed to glow under the moonlight. She inhaled a handful of air before finally focusing on her task, which was to drive safely. She must drive more carefully than usual. Especially which such a precious girl with her tonight.

The ride was silent and so Wendy decided to turn her playlist on shuffle, wishing to lighten the atmosphere.

She has always preferred listening to music as she drove. It kept her more awake and alert.

And like every other sleazy romance movies she has seen and dreaded, the song Passenger seat blasted through her stereo.

Wendy wished to sing along but she worried it might be too obvious. Her hidden admiration for the girl that she had been so trying so hard to bury, might finally break loose and she did not want to risk that.

Not when there are other ways

"Hey, um, Irene unnie?" Wendy nervously tapped rhythmically tapped on the steering wheel, trying to sooth her unstoppable nerves.

"Hmm?" Irene only hummed as she was too engulfed with the song, swaying lightly to the melody of the guitar.

"Do you already have a date to the dance?" Through her peripheral vision, Wendy could see Irene freeze on the spot.

She took a few moments to come down from the high as she could only answer with a hushed "No.."

"What? Why not? Aren't you going?" Wendy was more than sure that plenty has asked the girl to the dance yet how come she doesn't have anyone?

"I'm coming. I have to, either way. But yeah, I don't have anyone." Irene let out a nervous chuckle as she stared out the window, trying to hide her burning cheeks.

"Would you like to come with me then, unnie? As uh, my date?" Irene almost snapped her neck from turning around furiously. She blinked for a while, staring at the girl without any words to say.

A red light flashes on the traffic light which gave the opportunity for Wendy to return the girl's fixed stare. "What do you say?" Wendy was about to let out a shy yet hopeful smile which seemed to wake up the older girl.

"Are you forreal? Yes! I'd love to!" Irene shamelessly squealed which we caused Wendy to laugh heartedly. "I could have sworn my friends told me you already have a date."

"Well, now I do." Wendy flashed a proud yet playful grin towards Irene's way before fixing her gaze back to the road.

A few more playful banters were exchanged before they finally pull over at Irene's house.

"Thank you so much Seungwan-ah! I had a great night."

"It's a pleasure. Sweetdreams later~ " Wendy sent a teasing wink before waving goodbye and finally heading her way back home.

Irene could feel the warmth creeping up her face as she let out an overjoyed squeal. Not only did she get to talk to Wendy, but she also scored herself to be her date to the dance.

Gosh, she hit a jackpot tonight.

•

The next morning came and Irene had woke up from a sweet slumber. Hurrying out of her hazy trance, the girl quickly took a shower and got changed into her regular uniform.

A content smile managed to creep its way to Joohyun's face as she stared at her own reflection. Tomorrow night was the anticipated dance and she finally had a suitable date. Wait no, more than suitable. Joohyun had the perfect date for her.

Her knight in shining (more like rugged) baseball uniform, Seungwan.

Her precious Seungwannie.

Irene immediately shook her head back to reality as she reflected on the words she just thought of. Since when was Seungwan hers? A simple companionship in their school dance means nothing.

Although at the back of her mind, Joohyun secretly hoped that it means more. So much more.

Because to her, it wasn't a mere event but a chance to being one step closer to Wendy. Her most desired Wendy.

And with a clouded mind, Irene ran downstairs for breakfast before finally heading to school.

*

"Oh hey, Irene!"

"Hey Minju!" Irene enthusiastically greeted back at the familiar face.

"Goodmorning, Irene-ssi!"

"Goodmorning, Bogum-ssi!" Irene is aware of Bogum's existence as they were once partnered up for a Biology lab and quite frankly, he was a tad bit creepy. But being in a cheerful mood, Irene decided to flash her infamous breath taking smile, capturing the attention of all within her sight.

Irene was aware of Bogum's flushed cheek as he must have assumed the smile was directed at him. She quickly dismissed the idea as she was nowhere close to being interested in him for her heart was loyal to its eye candy.

"Nice seeing you again, Irene unnie!" Irene was quick to check as to who just greeted her and was surprised to see Seungwan.

"Oh, Seungwan.." Irene almost stuttered but she managed to shallow her nerves back down, enabling her to speak without obvious difficulties.

"What class are you headed to?" Wendy looking dashing in her cute school uniform making her oddly handsome as the red necktie made her face glow even brighter. Irene couldn't help but gape, hastily pinching herself awake.

"Oh um, spare. I have a spare right now. Mrs. Kim had an emergency and it was too late for a substitute." Irene hoped that Wendy didn't think she was rambling but if Wendy did, the shorter girl hid it well. "What about you?"

"Same as you, a spare. I usually work out in the morning but today was an exception. We've been training hard so coach said we deserve a little break." Looking nervous, Wendy fiddled with her buttons, twisting and turning the item. Irene almost cooed at the adorable sight but decided to bite her lip to stop herself from pecking the girl's obvious dimples.

"You look good in your uniform. I haven't seen you in it much since I usually see you when your training or during games." Wendy couldn't stop a grin for forming after hearing the words.

"Thanks unnie!" Irene 'subtly' looked elsewhere as she internally cheered for making the younger smile.

The duo weren't planning on heading to the field but their feet mindlessly lead the there, resulting into a déjà vu moment from last night, sitting in the exact same spot they were at.

"So, about the dance.. Are you prepared, unnie?" Wendy casually asked, looking into the co-ed group of what she assumes is Ms. Robinson's Phys-Ed class. She smiled at the sight of familiar faces, guys from her team, specifically, groaning at the number of laps they must run.

"Not really. I guess? I don't know." Irene hummed with a mixture of uncertainty. "What about you?"

"Yup. My suit is ready." Irene was taken aback at those words.

"Wait, suit?" She hesitatingly asked. She wasn't quite sure if she misheard the girl.

"Yes, suit. I didn't get to buy a dress because I wasn't even planning on going to that lame dance but since you know, change of plans.. I only have a suit on stock."

Irene's almost drooled as she pictured the charming and handsome girl in a suit. "W-why do you have a suit?" Irene, this time actually stuttered.

"Long story short, my friends and I were bored one night and decided to buy suits. Ask Seulgi, she has a pair too. We kind of, tried to see what it felt like.. Yeah." Wendy coughed in embarrassment after her excuse of a reason. Although it was the truth, the story itself was quite ridiculous. "I-is that okay?"

Irene blinked twice before the question registered in her head, nodding vigorously. Seungwan, her date, in a suit? Irene would never say no.

"So, what colour is your dress?"

"Red. I'll be wearing a red dress."

"Does that mean I wear a red tie?" Wendy looked at Irene with such innocence that Irene hard to bite her inner cheek and grip on to the metal bleacher as she resisted the urge to pounce on the girl, hugging her so tightly like how she does with Roro, her stuffed bear at home.

"If you'd like. You don't have to." Irene couldn't hold it anymore as she grinned widely, beaming at Wendy.

Wendy was about to answer when the bell rang, signalling the students that the second block was about to start. Irene picked up her bag and stood up along with Wendy.

"I guess that's my cue, see you later Seungwannie~"

Maybe she was too lost in the moment that she felt her lips mark itself on Seungwan's left cheek.

Shocked and in panic, Irene pulled away and her eyes widened even more and the remarkable kiss mark now flaunting on Wendy's left cheek.

Meeting her gaze, Wendy seems to be loss for words as she just stared blankly at Irene.

"I, um, I gotta go. Check your cheek." Irene rushed out of embarrassment and quickly ran to her class.

With a rapidly beating heart, she tried to focus on her Psychology lesson.

Meanwhile..

Wendy didn't hear Joohyun's words as she ran to her class as well. Rushingly taking the spot beside Seulgi in their music class.

"Wendy.. What the hell is that?"

"What's what?"

"Oh god. You can have fun, my friend but please don't leave the evidence behind. I'm the one feeling embarrassed for you."

"What are you talking about?"

Seulgi dug into her purse and fished out her handy mirror, passing it on to Seungwan.

Confused, Wendy took a look at herself taken aback as she saw a lipstick mark on her left cheek just an inch above her awaiting lips. Wendy continued to blink in disbelief as she flashed back into the scene in the field with Irene.

Let's just say a part of Wendy didn't want to get rid of the mark as it was a living proof that the Bae Joohyun's coloured lips imprinted her cheek like a paint on a blank canvas.

And so the rest of the day went on normally with everyone focusing on their respective tasks and so on.

*

It was finally the day of the dance and everyone were ecstatic. The night they have been waiting months for has finally come.

"Joohyun, honey! Your date is here!" Irene recognized her mother's voice coming from downstairs as she hurried to put on her accessories. A quick lock on her necklace and she was finally set.

She walked carefully down the stairs and as she took her final step, that was when she noticed that Wendy was already standing by the door. Wendy with an unreadable expression on her face. The younger moved in closer and offered her hand for Irene to take.

Irene gladly took the awaiting hand and stepped closer to the girl in a very classy suit. She took a moment to eye Wendy and the girl looked marvellous. Hair neatly tied in a ponytail, jet black suit with a touch of red tie and killer heels that made her slightly taller than Irene. She looked stunning

"You ladies look wonderful" the couple turned their head to the source of the compliment which came from none other than Mr. Bae.

"Thank you, sir. Shall we?" Wendy gave Irene a what seemed like a seducing smirk that had Irene swooning.

"Yes, of course. Mom, dad, we're off!"

"Have a great night, girls." Mr. And Mrs. Bae waved happily at the two girls until they finally made it to the car, with gentleman Seungwan opening the door for her lovely date. Wendy settled on the driver's seat, taking one last look at Irene before heading off."

"You look beautiful, unnie."

"So do you, If I may say so myself." Irene giggled. "That suit really brings out the colour of your eyes."

"That's so cliché" Wendy laughed at the compliment.

"What, it's true? I like your tie as well. We really match. We look like a couple." Irene's eyes widened as she automatically looked away to hide her burning cheeks. How clumsy she was.

"Aren't we, technically? We're going as a couple after all.

Irene could only hum as a response. Silence took over for a few minutes until they reached the venue. Even from a good distance away, the blast of music were already heard.

"Urgh. Trashy music.." Irene could here Wendy mumble as she opens the door.

"You seem to really hate dances, eh?"

"Not a big fan. That's why I never attend."

"Then why now?"

"It'll be bearable. Because you make everything sound beautiful." Irene physically cringed at the choice of words, fingers curling as she faked a gag.

"Greasy."

"I know." Wendy's laugh rang out, seemingly silencing the noises around. For a moment, Wendy's sweet laughter was all Irene heard.

"I didn't know you're this cheesy." Irene playfully smacked the girl in the arm.

"Well, better prepare yourself for some more since you're stuck with me for the night." Wendy chuckled, hands tightening its hold around Irene's as they entered the crowded space.

Unspoken but everyone knows that the new couple has captured the eyes of almost everyone. Wendy's protective side kicking in at all the lustful stares they are giving to Irene. Not wanting to satisfy their hunger, Wendy removed her coat and hanged it on Irene's shoulder. "I don't want to give them the sight they want. Keep it, okay?" Irene could only nod. Wendy took ahold of her hand once again, their fingers curling comfortably together. The second time Irene is surrounded by the satisfying scent of Wendy. The musk with a dash of refreshing vanilla. A scent that suited Wendy very much. A scent that Irene is currently addicted to.

"Do you want anything to eat?" Wendy asked. Truth to be told, they've just been sitting around for half an hour, chatting to themselves. Wendy, time to time, eyed the boys that wanted to approach Irene giving them a clear signal to dismiss as fast as they could. Which of course, worked every single time.

"Hmm, Ice cream!" Irene's inner youth was shown as she gave Wendy a toothy smile. Wendy was about to refuse but how could she if Irene have her such an innocent smile?

"Okay, I'll be right back, don't go anywhere, okay?" Wendy got up and lightly ruffed Irene's fair, making irene lean on to the affectionate touch.

A few minutes passed and Irene just hummed along to the current song that was being played, rhythmically tapping and drumming the beat with her fingers.

"Hey, um, Irene-ssi." Irene turned to her left and caught the eyes of Bogum in a suit similar to Seungwan's but since she was biased, she thinks that the latter looked much more dashing than the guy in front of her.

"Yes? How can I help you?" Irene knew where this was going but she silently prayed that he wouldn't go there.

"Would you like to dance? You seem to be alone and uh, I was wondering if I could have the pleasure to --"

"No." On cue, Irene and Bogum turned to the owner of the husky voice and to no one's surprise, it was Wendy. "Sorry Bogum-ssi but Irene is currently taken. She isn't alone either. I'm her date and I'm here. Don't you have other businesses to mind? Like your partner, Hyeri who seems to be drowning in boredom. Tough luck, she picked a guy like you." Wendy was glaring so intensely that Irene could see Bogum flinch at every word Wendy was spitting out. After the girl finished, Bogum practically ran for his dear life, stumbling along the way.

"Here's your Ice cream, unnie~ cookies and cream, like how you like it."

"How did you know?"

"Sources." Wendy smiled brightly and Irene was almost intimidated.

"You're scary, you know. You scared the day lights out of Bogum and now you're smiling like nothing happened." Wendy shrugged.

"Was I too harsh?"

"Not really. But why would you do that? He didn't even touch me."

"He was gonna! I know guys like him. They think they're smooth but no. Nope. Not a chance with my date."

"You're so protective, Seungwan." Irene smiled as she chewed on her ice cream. It was sweeter than she remembered. "Very charming."

"So I've heard. Say, unnie, do you want to dance? This song is a bit slow which is good, you don't have to see me make a fool out of myself."

"What, why?"

"I have two left feet." Wendy laughed as she tugged on Joohyun's hand, leading her date to the dance floor.

Like a well practiced move, Irene comfortably settled her hands on Wendy's toned shoulders and the latter's hands on Irene's waist.

They both swayed to the melody of the song, exchanging sugary smiles and loving gaze every moment they could.

And much like they had imagined, the night ended perfectly. With hands magnetically interlocked, almost impossible to pull out, the couple headed to the field once again for some fresh air. The place was too stuffy for their liking and a chance to breath in some fresh air was the ideal way to end the magical night.

(Magical minus the part with Bogum and the other irrelevant guys.)

"Unnie, do you know what a home run is?" Wendy asked out of nowhere while she played with Joohyun's hair.

(The girl was feeling a little dizzy after being in the crowded room for too long that she needed to lay down with Wendy willingly offering her lap as a pillow.)

"Of course! I'm the cheerleading Captain, remember? Home run is when the batter manages to hit the ball in a way that he can circle all the bases safely, returning home in one play. It can also be done if the batter hits the ball between the foul poles of the outfield without hitting the ground. Then it automatically means home run, right?" Irene recited with both of her eyes, fluttered shut.

"Wow. Was that a textbook definition unnie? I just wanted to know if you knew what it was." Wendy laughed making Irene laugh too.

"Tsk. I wanted to sound smart.." Irene childishly argued although her eyes remained shut, enjoying the peaceful feeling of Wendy's touch.

"A home run is one of the best feeling I've experienced. The feeling of accomplishment and victory. I can even say freedom because it's incredible how free I feel when I hit a home run. It gives me a certain kind of rush that's exciting but very filling at the same time." Irene could hear Wendy sighing I'm contentment. She slowly opened her eyes and witnessed the most serene face she has ever seen. Wendy was currently looking at what she assumes was the baseball diamond with a very calm smile plastered on her face.

"The feeling I get after I hit a home run, that's how I feel when I'm with you, unnie.." Irene bolted up at that statement.

"What?" Irene blankly stared at Wendy who didn't spare her a glance yet took ahold of her hand only to squeeze it tightly.

"You make me feel these incredible feelings all at once that I can't explain. And the closest I can give as a description is, you make me feel like I've hit a home run. Seeing you smile, I feel like I've won the game. The feeling of accomplishment and victory. That's how I feel when I'm holding your hand. The sense of pride I get. The same one as when we won provincial championships last year. It's the same one as I got when you agreed to be my date to the dance. I've been admiring for quite some time now, unnie and I really want to get to know you more. Please go out with me.." Wendy finally faced Irene as she mentioned the last words to her date.

Irene was close to tearing up, able to choke out a "Yes, Seungwan. I will." Before pulling Wendy closer and burying her face on the girl's shoulder. It was too much and it felt like a dream but no. Her dreams has just become her reality.

"Tonight, I guess I scored the best home run. I managed to make you mine. Thank you, unnie."

She could feel Irene nod as the girl's head shook vertically on her shoulder though the girl's face remained buried on the cloth of her button up.

"I guess I'm even more inspired to win this season. As I'll have trophy to look at every game."

"I'll be cheering you on, Seungwannie."

And so they spent the night, with tightly intertwined hands and dreamy sighs as they exchanged sweet unknowns to each other.

"So, what base did you manage to make it on, captain?" Moonbyul, Wendy's teammate teasingly asked as she glanced at the tightly intertwined fingers.

Wendy could only shoot a deadly glare towards Moonbyul which did not seem to scare the latter even a bit. Meanwhile, Irene could only blush at the blunt comment. Out of nowhere Hakyeon, made his way to the three, dropping the most unexpected words.

"Like always, of course, I bet captain is aiming for a home run!" And with that Moonbyul and Hakyeon cackled loudly, high five-ing hard before quickly running for their lives, clearly knowing the wrath they will have to face if they stayed any longer.

Wendy lowly growled in annoyance at her teammates, already mentally preparing a harsh punishment for the two. That was until she felt a gentle thumb caress her tense hand.

"Shh. Stop frowning. I know they were kidding." Irene gave Wendy a tender smile before landing a kiss at corner of Wendy's lips.

"Once we're both ready, we'll get there somehow." Irene teasingly winked, causing the younger to blush furiously.

"If we do, it'll be the best home run I've ever achieved." Wendy gave Irene an infamous smirk, laughing at the blonde's obvious flustered expression.

"Shuttup." Irene smacked her lover's toned arms before hugging the figure, burying her reddened face using her girlfriend's chest.

"I love you too, babe." Wendy could only laugh at Irene's childish act.

Wendy pulled her tiny lover, closer to her body, refusing to let go. Irene's warmth was what she had been looking and wanting for eternity. And now that she has the love of her life, trapped in her arms, she will never let go.

Wendy Son Seungwan, #77's aim has always been nothing but home runs. Now, it is a home-to-run along with her girlfriend.

Irene Bae Joohyun, has always prayed for perfect flips and a successful cheer team. Now it's her goal to always cheer for her lover and be the reason for her lover's stomach flips and butterflies.

Chapter 1: uuuuuu baseball wendyyy. sporty wendy is always the best, considering how she used to be active in sports back in her high school days. if i may ask author-nim, why baseball out of all sports? i think it's brilliant and very out of the ordinary since usually others would go for basketball, swimming, etc.

thank you for this story!
