Chapter 1

Dying to live

Yoongi

The camp was buzzing with animation. Each man trying his best to make the place into the ideal military camp it was supposed to be. The general Min Yoongi was being transferred in the West Camp and everything had to be on point for his arrival. His name was known by everyone. Murmurs and rumors kept spreading.

« He killed over a thousand men during his career ! »
« he has been trained since he knew how to walk! There’s no fighting technique he ignores »
« He tortured his own men after being disappointed by their skills on the battle field »

Each sentences added to the fear the character inspired the men. Questions kept on erupting in their minds, and they tried their best to answer them with their imagination. Was he scary ? Obviously. Did he look strong ? Probably. Could he hurt any of us ? I’d rather not think about that.

Quietly cleaning his riffle, Colonel Hwang was sitting near the main entrance. He was currently the highest ranked soldier in the camp, since all their upper men had been called back to the battle field. He had to be the one to greet the General. A shadow came disturb him in his occupation.

« Move, will you? Can’t you see I’m actually trying to get things done here?" He muttered.

When no reaction came from the other side, he raised his head. In front of him was standing a young man. He looked frail and pale, almost sick. He was staring down at him with disdainful eyes which immediately irked the caporal.

« What’re you staring at, kid? Lost your mommy ? Want me to try and call her? » He mocked. « Just get your out of here before you get it whipped by… »

He got cut short by the gun suddenly pointed at his head.

« You better watch your mouth, Colonel. This is not how you’re supposed to address your General. » The boy said.

Colonel Hwang’s eyes suddenly widened and his mouth fell open. He spotted the ring on the major finger of the hand holding the gun, carrying the emblem of the great Min family. His glance fell on the insignia on the chest of the boy he had failed to notice at first.

« Ge…General Min! Please, forgive my behavior, it was a mistake…I didn’t know…You were supposed to arrive later…I wasn’t prepared… »

« If I had been an enemy would you have been prepared? » The general interrupted him. « Judging by the slow and relaxed attitude you greeted me with, I assume not. »

« S…sir, there aren’t any enemies around here…The…the battle field is far, there’s no way they could reach this place »

« Of course, I assume you know better then I about all the recent happenings on our battle fronts. »

« That’s not what I meant, but… »

« Never mind, I want you to show me around the place, now. Tell me how things work over here. »

Without waiting for an answer, General Min walked away. He had been greatly annoyed by the way he had been welcomed. The uncaring and unprepared attitude of the caporal had gotten on his nerves.

« Are you going to obey, or are you planning to stay there all day long? » He asked the older man when he didn’t follow him.

« O…of course! »

The man hurriedly got up and started showing the place. He internally prayed that all the preparations and cleaning had been completed and that his men had a correct appearance. But of course, he seriously doubted this since the last time he had seen them they were just running around aimlessly in a vain attempt to fix their damaged lodgings.

As they moved deeper into the settlement, silence followed them. Soldiers suddenly turned quiet when they spotted the stranger walking next to their colonel. Whispers spread. Was it the man? He didn't look like much. Why was he so skinny? Where was the scary monster they had imagine? Maybe everything they heard were nothing more than rumors. Maybe the only reason he had been made General at such a young age was because of the family of legendary soldiers he came from. The fear and respect he had first inspired them was slowly melting away and annoyance quickly made its way to the men's mind.

Once the tour of the settlement over, General Min requested for the entirety of his men to be gathered in the main space, near the stage that was used by the firing squad to execute prisoners.
There, he stood in front of them and got ready to speak. Eyeing the colonel, he waited for him to introduce him.

"-hmm" Colonel Hwang cleared his throat. "I'd like to present you the new head of this camp. This is Mr. the General Min Yoongi."

He awkwardly gestured towards the young man and anxiously waited for anything to happen. A stunned silence spread through the audience, followed by a wave of astonished whispers. The reaction seemed to annoy greatly the General as he clicked his tongue. Not that he wasn't used to this kind of reaction, but it still got to him every time. He clapped firmly in his hands.

"Silence, I demand silence !" He exclamed.

"Are you even in the position to demand anything?" A voice answered mockingly.

General Min looked down on the face of the man who had spoken. He was tall and sturdy, a defiant look in his eyes, a crooked smile distorting greatly his features.

"Who are you to come here and try to rule over us?" He continued. "Look at yourself! You look so weak!" Encouraged by the silence of the General, he kept going. "Because you're from a good family you were made General, but we've been working here without you just fine! This place is not for like you who know nothing about hard work! So I suggest you just get your out of here and don't ever com-"

The man was suddenly silenced by the sound of a gunshot. The men watched in horror as his limb figure slipped to the ground, a bloody hole visible on his forehead. Slowly, all eyes turned to the General. As calm as ever, he lowered his gun.

"Mutiny" He said "is punished by death sentence. I don't need this kind of rats around here. Keep that in mind."

He put his gun back in place and let his eyes wander on the crowed.

"Is there anyone here who has something more to say?" He asked. When he was met with only silence he kept going. "I was called here to give back to this place its usefulness and pride. And what I've seen up till now puts the great army of our Nation to shame. I intend to make great changes and I will not hesitate to get rid of any obstacle trying to slow me down. That's all I have to say. I will let you know of the details in the days to come. For now, I want you all to make this place as clean as the insignia on my jacket. Get to work now."

As he walked down the stage, he stopped for a while.
"Oh, and get rid of this as well" He added while gesturing towards the corpse in the middle of the attendance.
Without saying anything more he strived away, the Colonel hastily following him. He hurriedly led him to his accomodations, located in the main building at the center of the camp.

The colonel led him to his office then left him alone. Once he was by himself, Min Yoongi glanced around the room before sighing deeply. The mission he had been assigned to wasn't going to be easy. He slowly made his way towards the huge map occupying the wall. He stared at his nation's empire, frowning slightly. The map wasn't up to date. The army had conquered a few territories (not without the help of Yoongi) since it had been issued a few years back.

He let himself down in the big armchair behind his desk. This place was without any doubt the most comfortable place of the settlement. The armoiries of the nation had been painted in golden paint above the door. A proud smile tug at his lips. It was the great Nation his family had work so hard to create. He remembered the stories of the past. How the world used to be divided in an enormous number of countries, how each one of them fought to prove themselves to be the greatest. How humanity was left wounded and broken. How two different peoples emmerged from those ruins. Of course, as it is always meant to be, the weak and the strong, those were the new nations. No apparent common links seemed to unite the members of those comunities, and with time, this was the only acceptable explanation that had been found. Soon the fights began again. The weakest ones were a waste of ressources. The two peoples got separated. But the weakest, who claimed they had been cheated on, assured they did not possess the necessary ressources to survive. They started stealing. And the strongest people had to dominate them. As time went by, this position got established as a natural order. The weakest, now in their proper place, were called the Inferus, the inferiors. As for the strongest, whose power and greatness was all natural and coming from the Gods', they called themselves the Astralis, the godlike people that live to be served only. But of course, nothing could ever be so simple, and, to this day, the Inferius were still fighting for what they considered their due freedom. As incompetent and stupid as they were, they still hadn't understood that the place they occupied in society was the only one they deserved. Thus, war went on to this day, and Yoongi couldn't help but laugh at those ridiculous attempts they made to defeat the Astralis. The order of things was as he had always known it and he was determined to keep it as such. Generations after generations, the men of his family had lived for this sole purpose, and he intended to do the same.

He decided to take a walk in the camp alone, he would probably have a better idea of the way things worked around here by doing so. As he walked down the main aisle, he couldn't help but notice the Inferius walking around and he stared at them with distaste.

Someone bumped into him. He saw a woman crawling at his feet. He was about to help her out when he noticed the grey and ragged outfit she was wearing. She was one of 'them'.

"So it wasn't someone",  he thought. "it was something."

Infuriated by the closeness of the 'thing', he threw a kick in the woman's belly, trying to get her as far from himself as possible. The lady let out a shriek and scouted over. She was carrying a package on her back. The soldier grabbed it roughly, not paying attention to the woman's laments. As he turned it around he discovered a baby.

"What !" He thought, "they've been reproducing !"

The mere idea of this was disgusting to him.
He realized the camp's activities had stopped. Everyone waiting for his reaction. The mother, still on the ground, held her breath while tears rolled down her cheeks. Did they expect him to be lenient towards a child and its mother ? He didn't know and he couldn't care less. He loathed the fact of having that thing so close to him, to have it touching him. His teeth clenched, he suddenly threw the package on the floor, causing both the baby's and the mother's screams to be heard. Not letting anyone the chance to react, he drew his gun and shot.

The whole place became silent. Hand balled into fist, he shot three more times towards the baby. The dirty clothing wrapping it was pierced and blood stains started to appear. Lowering his arm, he turned towards the woman. Frozen, shaking, she stared at her child's corpse, eyes widened in horror and pain, mouth agape, face red and soaked in tears.

"This should teach you a lesson, He said, from now on, five metters is the closest you can get to me, I shall never hear your voice again and..." He continued as he glanced at the blood-drenched package, "This should also teach you not to spread your loathsome race."

After one last cold look for the woman at his feet, he walked away.

This was annoying. His first day at the camp and he'd already been bothered twice.

Chapter 2: I really like your story! :)
It's something different than what I've read lately, and in a very good way. I like your writing style and the introduction of the characters and setting. However, there are a few language/writing mistakes in your chapters so please read over your chapters again to make your story even better (and I know it can be hard sometimes to write in a language which isn't your first language). :)
I'm looking forward to the next chapters. ^^
