It’s so dark…
Is this what it’s like to die? This darkness? At times I feel like I’m standing in a mine of darkness, only seeing that tiny speck of light at the end of the tunnel.
I feel myself moving, walking, though I cannot tell where. I can feel the touches where I brush against people in the crowd. I can hear the murmur of them as they pass by but its muffled, distorted.
I hear a scream. All around me I feel the rushing of people as they move away. There is a large blaring sound before I feel it. The impact. I feel myself being thrown. Feel the wind as it breezes past before I crash into the ground, rolling before coming to a stop. I think some of my ribs are broken.
“Someone call an ambulance!”
I feel someone cradling my head.
“Are you okay?”
It’s her.
She pierces the dark veil that clouds my mind, like the shining moonlight in the dark of night.
The world comes into sight once more and the emotions that had been previously nulled rush back to life. I feel myself feeding off the crowd around me. My strength returns and I feel myself healing.
I hear sirens blaring but I can’t break the stare that she holds me in. She turns to the paramedic and calls him to me.
“He got hit by the truck.”
“We’ll take him with us. Thank you for your help.”
“No problem.”
She steps back.
“Wait!” I call out and she turns back to me. “Stay.”
“I can’t. I’m sorry.”
She leaves me. It feels like something has been torn from me. I close my eyes as I accep
