Fairy tales are overrated. But they are what we use to get through the painful life throws at us. Especially if you’re in a similar situation as these two kids. Spina bifida: A birth defect in which the kid's spinal cord develops poorly during growth. Lee Sojin was born with this condition. As soon as she was born, she was put in countless surgeries and in the end, their solution was putting her in a wheelchair. "Although there is no dicovery for a cure, treatment options are available." Translation: you're ed but it's okay. You're alive.  Walkin- I mean strolling around in her wheelchair, Sojin practically waits for her precious - as the doctors say - life to end. In elementary school, she watched her classmates play soccer outside. In middle school, they all formed cliques and run around the city playing. And the worst of all, high school. This is when kids like listening to music the most. Am I right? So she sits at lunch, hearing them all shares their stories of concerts, traveling with family and going to amusement parks.  For Sojin there were no parks. No concerts, no vacations, and no friends.  It was the hospital then home. School and then the hospital again.  This however didn't stop Sojin. She refused to give up when she knew that life wasn't supposed to be easy in the first place. Take away the disorder and she is your average happy-go-lucky girl. But you can't take away her disorder easily like that. It's become apart of her and her lifestyle. I lied, she had friends but they just weren't constant. At school, the wheelchair restricted her from lots of things and the kids of course glued their eyes on her. Despite the teasings all throughout her adolescent period, she managed to survive well. I don't know how she does it but I will blame it on all those Disney books sitting on her shelf.  Her only actual friends were made at the hospital. Obviously for someone of that character, she was bound to have people who liked her. But maybe because she just has such bad luck, all of them have left her. Whether it be literally or hypothetically.  This girl, who is now a college woman, was accepted into Seoul University with some scholarship offerings. Her body isn't in great shape but her brain is completely healthy and functioning.  But I'll bet that even with that smartass brain of hers, she didn't know of his existence or the fairytale ending that she was about to get. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________   So tomorrow is your quiz day and I expect to have all your papers on my desk when I walk in. Class is dismissed.  Woah.  Much cool.  Aren't teachers so cool? We may not think much of them but to Sojin, they were her idols. Her role models and her dream. That's right. Her dream was to become a teacher. Having chosen education as her major, she pushed for her dreams quite efficiently. Though her face may look like her world is full of rainbows and butterflies, it's truly not. But she has such a big heart that she's able to survive through it well.  But she manages. She's an adult now and she does things well. But she realized that it was truly lonely.  She wished for seven dwarfs to come play with her. Or even two mice. But not even a crab could keep her company.  "Phew. Finally time to go home." Sojin put her books in her backpack behind her wheelchair and rolled the wheels. As she makes her way out of class and out of the building, she bows politely and gives smiles to everyone she passes. Only a few care to return the same.  Living in an apartment with ramp access, her doctor had recommended that place since it had a close distance to school. Since she started attending Seoul University, her previous hospital switched all her records and therapy sessions to the school hospital.  She pushed through the ramps and doors to get to her house, room 105. She punched in her key code, and turned the handle. "I'm back!"  Sojin takes off her converses and switches to compfy slippers. Past the kitchen, and past her bedroom, she turns into the corner of the living room where a shrine was set up. "Hi Mommy. Hi Dad.. I'm back." With a small smile, Sojin fought desperately to hold back her cries.  ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________   Next kid is Jeon Jungkook. Born with autism which impairs the aility to communicate. Basically the complete opposite of Sojin. No wheelchair with a perfectly healthy body, but his brain isn't good at helping him express his feelings. This can get in the way of his lifestyle as well. For Jungkook, his childhood was much harder. For he dealt with emotional pain and frustration with no motivation from Disney books. All he had was his older brother, Jin. Their dad was never around to begin with and after spending time with the autistic Jungkook, their mother couldn't handle her own emotions which resulted to her abandoning them. As high schoolers, what were they supposed to do? Jin worked extra hard for them to see the sun rise again the next day and Jungkook put the blame onto himself.  Jin luckily was just about done with high school so after receiving his diploma, he went off to find as many good paying jobs he could. But there just never seemed enough. They needed money for rent, food, water, utility, and lastly, Jungkook's hospital bills.  Perhaps it was then. The amount of blame he put on himself became too strong and with the added affects of autism, it only forced him to become a mute. He thought, since he had difficulty expressing himself anyways, why try any harder?  He didn't know that one day, he would completely change his
