PART I: Ignite

Sparks

A/N: Sorry for the wait! I do a lot of art commissions and I just had to finish a last minute one for my dad;; I just finished it like five minutes ago. Thanks for your patience!! Here's the entire first part :D

"Okay, who put their pineapples on my plate?!" Yuri shrieks in horror, picking up the small pieces of fruit as if they were poison and tossing them into the closest trash bin.

"If you don't like hawaiian, then stop taking slices!!" Yoona yells afterwards, watching in shock as Yuri tosses out perfectly good pieces of pineapple.

Seohyun squeezes Yoona's hand, offering her support as her girlfriend tearfully mourns the lost pieces of sweet and tangy deliciousness. She wants to reprimand Yuri for being so careless, but she decides against it, not wanting a fight to break out between the two best friends.

Sooyoung is shaking her head at wasted food, but not ratting out Hyoyeon who was snickering as she picked out tonight's movie. It was her turn to pick the film for their typical Friday night of junk food and movies. They had to get Seohyun's permission to start the trend, but with enough begging from Yoona (and a little something extra, Hyoyeon likes to add) and a promise to not buy too many bags of chips, they had started the weekly tradition about a month ago.

There were five of them in total, but they always had five pizzas. At first, Seohyun was horrified by the amount, but when she had told them to only get three the first time and then afterwards had to deal with a still hungry Sooyoung and Yoona, Seohyun decided to never doubt her unnies again. Vegetarian for Seohyun's choice, Hawaiian for Yoona, meat lovers for Yuri, deluxe for Hyoyeon and something random for Sooyoung. She likes the surprise, she tells them every time. And even when she received a pizza with pineapples, anchovies and olives as toppings, she didn't blink an eye as the rest of her friends stared at her eating with disgust.

Sooyoung, Yuri, Yoona and Hyoyeon were roommates, sharing a flat after graduating from college about a year ago. It was a rather spacious but often chaotic place, all of its residents being shameless loud mouths. It's a miracle that no one's complained about the noise since they moved in a few months back. Seohyun would come over often, Yoona not wanting to go out without good reason, enjoying the comfort of Netflix and Crunchyroll over public spaces. The youngest would be the one to calm down the older women when they got too rowdy.

As slices of pizza were consumed (and more complaints were thrown), Hyoyeon decides to go with a classic movie since it was just the end of the first week of December.

"Love Actually, huh?" Yuri says with half full, watching the loading screen carefully. Hyoyeon places an arm around her shoulder, reaching her before Seohyun could scold her for such rude behaviour.

"Of course, it's a must see throughout December!" the blonde claims proudly before leaning forward and pressing the play button.

As the girls adjust themselves in front of the TV, Hyoyeon pulls two phones out of her pocket. One was her own, while the other belonged to the tallest who was seated behind her.

"You finally get me that new case, Hyo?" Sooyoung asks in a whisper, leaning forward and grabbing her phone from the other woman.

"Yes, an early Christmas gift for one of my best friends!" Hyoyeon claims proudly, grabbing the phone back and unlocking the screen.

"Wait a second..." Sooyoung starts, her eyes narrowing at the girl who is going so carelessly through her phone, "You broke my case, you owed me! This can't be your gift. And since when have you known my passcode?"

Sooyoung always worried whether or not Bruno Mars' birthday was too easy a passcode to figure out. It had lasted her a couple of months; unfortunately, Hyoyeon just happened to know her way too well.

Hyoyeon starts laughing, the light chuckles soon turning into cackles as she opens an app, "The case isn't your gift...no, in fact, this is your gift! Welcome Sooyoung, to the land of TInder!!"

The word of the infamous application catches the attention of everyone in the room. Yuri immediately pauses the screen, a wide smile on her face.

"You didn't!" she exclaims in glee, jumping onto Hyoyeon's back to get a good look at the screen of the phone in front of her.

Yoona and Seohyun lean over to take a peek at the screen as well, curiousity filling their being. Their same aged friends have all mentioned Tinder at least once in passing for the past couple months, especially at its popularity slowly rose.

"Sooyoung, 23. Lover of all food, brilliant cook of said food. I can show you a good time. P.S Don't be intimidated by my beauty?!" Sooyoung reads her profile out loud, each sentence making the rest of the girls laugh hysterically. She would turn pinker and pinker with each sentence, but she did like the accuracy, despite how ridiculous the situation was.

Seohyun tries to hold in her giggles, a hand pressing against but a glint in her eyes. As often as she scolds her unnies, she did love the occasional bout of mischievous pranks. And besides, Sooyoung always complained about being lonely.

"It's finally your chance to get laid," Hyoyeon says bluntly, opening the section of the application where her matches were revealed. "I did you the favor of starting right away. I promise you, I only chose the best looking people with captivating profiles."

"More like Hyoyeon seriously had nothing better to do," Yoona snickers, earning a high five from Yuri.

The blonde refuses to acknowledge Yoona's insult, instead scrolling quickly through the list of matches. "You're surprisingly very popular, so you have quite the variety here."

Sooyoung grumbles, wanting to yell at Hyoyeon for pulling such a stunt. But as she glances at the small icons and different names of the people who happened to find her attractive enough, she feels confidence swell in her body. A confidence long forgotten after her last break up.

"So is this the best gift or what?" Hyoyeon asks with a wiggle of her brows, ignoring the rolling of eyes from her unimpressed audience.

"Hmmm," Sooyoung grabs her phone back, focus at 100% as she stared at the screen. "I'll give you a 7 out of 10."

When Sooyoung doesn't bother to look away from her phone, Yuri decides to unpause the movie. Without looking away, a smirk forms on her face as an idea pops into her mind.

"Who wants to bet that Sooyoung will find a date before Christmas?" she challenges the room, humming a bit to the song playing in the movie.

"Hey! Don't bet on my love life!" Sooyoung growls, looking up at her friends for a second before going back to her phone.

"I bet unnie will find someone within a week," Yoona says confidently, with an arm raised in the air. Seohyun agrees with her girlfriend silently, nodding and solidifying her bet.

"I bet she's too scared and doesn't date someone until New Years," Hyoyeon adds, a confident grin on her lips.

Sooyoung has never been the first one to initiate any of her relationships. She'd show off about how all these boys would fawn over her back in high school, relishing in the amount of love letters she'd receive. But when it was her own feelings, when it was a confession waiting upon the tip of her tongue, she'd never been able to put them into audible words. Her past three ex boyfriends had asked her out first and all she had to do was say yes.

However, Tinder was different.

Communicating online was always different.

Yoona had confidence that if Sooyoung really put her mind to it, she could meet someone almost within a day or two and Seohyun had to agree with her girlfriend.

"So what does the winner get then?" Yuri asks her friends, forgetting to pause the movie. They had seen it a million times already anyway.

"How about the winner gets to pick the toppings for all the pizzas on the week Sooyoung does her first date?" Seohyun offers innocently. Despite their one pizza preference each decision, the girls still fought over slices on the occasion.

"I like that idea," Yoona cooes, awarding Seohyun with a kiss on the forehead.

"Call!" Yuri and Hyoyeon shout in unison, all four girls laughing at their new agreement. And then they all glance at Sooyoung who was now lying on her back on the floor, completely enamoured by her phone.

"Think she'll be mad when she realizes that her phone is only at 10% battery and I tell her that I forget her charger at my place?" Hyoyeon asks rather loudly and catching Sooyoung's attention, before bursting into laughter.

"HYOYEON!!"

---

"On that silly app again?" Taeyeon asks as she enters her shared apartment with her best friend, Sunny. She looks rather funny, her arms completely occupied by the groceries she'd just bought. She was feeling like making some Japanese food that night.

"Ohhh, any exciting stories yet?" Tiffany enters after Taeyeon, waddling over to Sunny who was lying on the couch, her head on a sleeping Jessica's lap. She remembers often coming to the exact same scene, except Sunny was usually sleeping at well. Instead of looking tired, like she expects, the woman looks completely energized, enthralled perhaps by what's going on with her phone.

Sunny looks at her friends for a second, narrowing her eyes at their teasing tone before placing a finger to her lips because of Jessica's slumber.

"She's impossible to wake up," Taeyeon laughs before placing groceries on the table. "She probably won't budge until she smells what I'm making for dinner tonight anyway."

"But seriously though," Tiffany bounces in her spot before skipping over to Sunny, "Anyone interesting yet?" She had bothered Sunny with this question almost every instant she saw her, enjoying the wide range of stories that came from Sunny's interaction with the infamous application.

The smaller girl nods her head timidly, not opening due her concentration on a rather engaging conversation that had only started fifteen minutes ago. She'd never been so infatuated.

It was her.

The girl Sunny had liked almost instantaneously, and Sunny never did that. She had a rule for herself, to always check if the person had more than three photos and a grammatically correct and somewhat humourous profile. But the second she saw this woman's face she couldn't help but swipe right almost immediately.

They had matched a few days ago and Sunny, being the charming woman she was had messaged her within a heartbeat of their match.

She worried about maybe being too quick to respond, perhaps turning the other woman off. But Sooyoung never unmatched her, so she figured that maybe she just needed to be patient.

She was about to fall asleep with Jessica, both women having come back from work around the same time. But then her phone vibrated, a special vibration Sunny put specifically for the application, she stopped her thought of resting. She was curious, not remembering if she replied to anyone after her round of dialogue in the morning. And then she saw it, that name.

Choi Sooyoung.

And ever since then, she couldn't put down her phone.

Sunny was too focused on the conversation to mind the whines that came from Tiffany's mouth. The younger girl sighs before leaving to help Taeyeon with the groceries. Perhaps she could bother Sunny another time.

And luckily, the conversation came sooner than later thanks to an always blunt Jessica halfway through dinner time.

"You're grinning like an idiot," the now refreshed girl states as she munches happily on the food prepared by the eldest. "I don't think I've seen that creepy love-struck smile of yours since you got the phone number from Mrs. Bae after we graduated."

Everyone shuddered at that memory; Sunny's fling with their old English teacher lasting for almost a whole month before the older woman flew off to Japan.

"I think Sunny's found her match," Taeyeon chuckles, patting her best friend on the back.

Sunny groans, knowing she'd have to talk about it eventually. Usually she'd be calm, cool, as collected as the next guy but this Sooyoung was just so funny, so much fun to talk to that couldn't help but threaten to rip at how much she was smiling.

"Why don't you ask her out?" Tiffany offers, poking at her fried udon.

Sunny's eyes almost pop out at the ridiculous idea, "Excuse me? It's barely been two hours since we started talking!! She's going to think I'm desperate!"

"Or," Tiffany drags on, her eyes turning into crescents, "She'll just think you like her that much!"

But Jessica shakes her head, "I don't know. I don't like straightforward people. It's definitely way too soon."

Tiffany turns to her girlfriend for support, the smaller girl just rubbing her chin thoughtfully in response.

"I say, just do what feels right," the eldest says with a nod before patting Sunny on her back again. "This game is a two way street, right? She's responding just as often as you are. That means something, I bet."

"Taengoo, it's not a game," Sunny sighs before picking her phone out of her pocket. Taeyeon had made it a rule when they moved in that meals would be phone free, but this time no one made a comment, all knowing what was going through Sunny's head.

"I'll think about it," she mumbles before smiling at the notification that Sooyoung had responded to her again.

"It is the holidays," Tiffany clasps her hands together before staring dreamily at the ceiling. "Romantic things are bound to happen!"

"Or disastrous things," Jessica adds with a shrug.

Sunny may be charming and not to mention very popular with the ladies, but she never had the best luck in any of her committed relationships.

Her first girlfriend turned out to just be a girl who wanted to experiment, leaving Sunny heart broken after three months of dating. Or rather, of the other girl playing around.

The next girl just wanted to use Sunny for her car and her good grades, taking advantage of her tutoring skills and stealing her homework whenever possible.

The one after cheated on Sunny with her ex girlfriend. In Sunny's room. On her birthday.

The woman after that was Mrs. Bae, a strange affair that started in their senior year of high school. Sunny was quickly enamoured and of course, played her charms up as much as possible. The second she graduated and their relationship could be somewhat legal, the two made it official. Sunny had successfully gotten her number; an ocasion so special that it followed with its own party. Unfortunately the woman had a better job opportunity in Japan waiting for her, leaving behind the ten years younger girl.

None of her friends approved anyway. And a year later, they found out that she had a family, a husband and a young child. Sunny never trusted older women again.

And Sunny's most recent ex is still out there somewhere, probably not too far away. She had become too clingy, somehow showing up everywhere Sunny went until she said enough was enough and got a restraining order.

Sunny didn't exactly have the best track record, but she believed in love. Most of her Tinder hookups were one night stands or really awkward first dates, but they were all brief relationships that were first started after at least a month of conversation. It usually took her that long to trust the person enough to meet them in person.

But there was just something so alluring about this Sooyoung. Or maybe Sunny just had a weakness for her shoulder length, pink hair and that brilliant smile. Not only was she beautiful, but she was very good at stimulating conversation, never once dry with her responses. Sunny found it easy to flirt with her and have playful banter that didn't always border on cliche.

She had never wanted to meet a stranger so bad, but there were always rules.

Conversation continued as normal, Jessica and Tiffany discussing different dates to go Christmas shopping while Taeyeon asked Sunny for ideas for decorating the place since they were hosting Christmas for their friends this year.

It was only Sunny and Taeyeon who lived in their apartment, but the size was nothing to laugh at. Taeyeon was a famous local singer who had gigs almost every day at different bars, cafes and restaurants throughout the city. Sunny was a landscaper, doing projects all over the city as well. The two were very dedicated to their jobs, having saved up as much as possible to afford their current place.

Jessica was Sunny and Taeyeon's childhood friend, a woman who came to visit often after her work since she lived so close by. She was the manager of the local branch of a clothing store owned by her parents. She had been Taeyeon's ex as well, the two ending on good terms when they realized that their affections had simply been platonic back in high school.

Tiffany was Jessica's family friend from the States, the other two girls only having met her during their post secondary studies. Taeyeon almost instantly took a liking to her and Sunny got along with everyone. It only took a few years for the women to solidify a strong relationship, resulting in a dinner every friday night at Taeyeon and Sunny's place, the two hosts alternating in the cooking responsabilities.

"She gave me her number," Sunny suddenly speaks out, glancing at her phone in the middle of one of Taeyeon's 'creepy old drunk men in bars hitting on me' stories. "Guys, she gave me her number!"

The other two stop their conversation immediately and look at Sunny with wide eyes.

"Wait, what? Already?" Jessica asks with narrowed eyes, really and truly not believing it. "Aren't you guys moving a little fast?"

"Aww, Jessie! Sometimes, when the momentum is good, you just gotta keep going!" Tiffany chirps with a bounce, giving Sunny a wide, toothy smile. "I say text her and shut down that Tinder thing. I think you found yourself a new girlfriend."

"I don't know," Jessica retorts, shaking her head in disbelief. "What if it's some 12 year old punk trying to catfish you?"

Taeyeon, who has always had a tendency to silently watch her friends bicker, had an idea.

"Ask her to meet up on Sunday, that's your day off, right?" Taeyeon suggests with a smile on her lips, "We'll come with you to make sure it's not some scam, keep you safe and then rescue you if need be."

Tiffany happily claps her hands together, "Yes! Oh my God, Tae you are brilliant! I like this idea! I would love to meet this woman who's got you melting in less that 24 hours."

"Hey, hey, you guys won't be meeting her!" Sunny exclaims, waving her hands in protest. "And who says I'm going to go along with this plan? You are ridiculous Taeyeon! I can't believe the person who took almost half a year to ask Miyoung out is telling me to ask this stranger out after knowing her for only three hours."

Taeyeon and Tiffany instantly blush at the memory before Taeyeon laughs nervously, rubbing the back of her neck.

"Fine, fine, do what you want," Taeyeon says with a wave of her hand, "But think about it. When you do want to go on a date, I do think you should bring us with."

Sunny rubs her chin in thought before getting up to excuse herself from dinner. "You know what, you're right. I'll probably bring you guys when I meet her for the first time...but that won't happen for another like month or something okay?! Now, I'll be off to text in the private and quiet space that is my room. I can't stand you guys staring anymore!"

And with a huff, the small girl walks away, but with a light skip in her step.

"I bet you she'll meet that girl this week anyway," Jessica fills the silence in first, the second she hears Sunny's door close.

"No, not Sunny, not with her history. I bet she's going to take this real slow and maybe invite the girl to meet after Christmas or something," Taeyeon comments with a firm nod. She knew her best friend best, after all.

"Hmm, I just want them to meet like now!!" Tiffany adds excitedly, before giving Taeyeon a peck on her cheek. "I love you, Tae but I gotta go with Jessie on this one. They'll meet this week for sure."

"And if we win, you have to go shopping with us and hold our bags," Jessica giggles triumphantly, very confident in her prediction.

"And if I win?" Taeyeon asks with a raise of her brow. But in seconds, Tiffany is whispering something in her ear and the girl's questioning look quickly disolves into a very pleased expression.

"Ew, don't say it out loud, please."

Chapter 2: you're really good at writing dynamic scenes between friends; it's one of the things i love about your fics because you manage to build a scene with 4~5 people all interacting, everything sounding natural, and no one being left behind, which i think takes skill.

anyway, given sunny's "messy" past, i can't wait to see how the soosun relationship will progress. i think i'd also like to see more of sooyoung's past with her ex-boyfriends in the future. hope you update soon!

Chapter 2: Woooo really interesting, and since there is Taeny and Yoonhyun I'm guessing there could be a side interaction between Sic a and Yul, so yeah I hope for them to meet soon in fact, and see that face to face sharing, as well as see how the rest get along *-*
