Chapter 8
My Heart Beats After Thousands of YearsI woke up disoriented with a splitting migraine. Do monsters even get migraines?
I brought my hand to my face and rubbed it harshly.
I swiveled my head left and right trying to get my bearings. I saw fabric hanging off of a line above, suspended by wire running from one wall to the next and large jars near the wall containing gods know what. On one side of the wall, there was a huge open shelf full of different spices, I could smell it. On the other side also shelves from ceiling to floor housing small ceramic jars, a vast array of distinctive herbs.
Where am I?
"You are in my humble home." Someone answered as if reading my mind.
I quickly turned and saw the woman I was suppose to feed off of in the dense mountain forest.
She smiled brightly and extended the bowl she had in hand. It was as if the lady ignored what happened in the forest.
I looked between the bowl and back to her, unsure as to what to do. Did she want me to take it? The bowl smelled fragrant and delicious, but it wasn't what I craved at the moment.
"Just take it, and don't try anything on me, or else you will get the same thing like last time." She warned. Well she read my mind; I thought I could get away with a little fake gratitude and then pounce on her. Guess I can't do that now.
I extended my hand apprehensively and grabbed the bowl from her. I took the spoon and slowly looked at the contents in the bowl, it was soup. I brought the hot broth to my lips.
It tasted good. Real good, and surprisingly it curbed my appetite for blood.
I raised an eyebrow back at the lady in curiosity. What is in this soup?
"It's a special soup. Helps to curb that must - - the - blood - dry - out - of - people appetite."
I spilt the soup out in shock.
"H-how...." I spluttered.
She giggled. "Because, I know exactly what you are, demon."
I got over my shock and clenched my jaw, "Well, then if you know why you are helping me. Better yet, why aren't you afraid?"
She walked over to the corner and retrieved a small stool and brought it over near where I was resting and sat down on the stool, facing me. With her arm braced on her knee to support her chin, she flashed her smile.
"Because, you are not the first of your kind I have seen, or helped."
"There are more them?" I stood abruptly, flabbergasted at the news.
