16th Century Joseon: Hong Sungmi, a young shaman, and a lover of the Crown Prince, is murdered by Bokyung, Princess Consort of Joseon. Investigating her death, King Junjin finds she has a young daughter, Yeri. Riddled with guilt upon realising his lover died at the hands of his own wife, the newly coronated King Junjin brings Yeri into the palace, under guise she is Min Yerim, the orphaned long-lost daugher of his deceased childhood friend. Yeri enters the palace at the age of six, as a playmate for Princess Sooyoung. Already caught in a web of lies, she realises that in order to protect the ones she loves, she must risk everything she has.
