“No way! That’s so weird,” you pushed him jokingly. He was telling you about how one time he did an underwear model show with him and his friends. TMI, right?

You and Jackson have been best friends for a while now, so there was nothing too much that’d be ‘too much info.’ You told each other everything, from crushes, gross happenings, as well as embarrassing moments and your deepest secrets. You trusted each other with anything, and there were no walls in between you.

He knew he was able to trust you when you listened to him eagerly, and you gave him sincere replies. Nothing he said to you ever came back out of your mouth to tell anyone else. You were able to trust him since he would always would push you to spill your secrets. When he pinky promised you he wouldn’t tell anyone, and you eventually give in, you never heard anything you told him, either.

It was a platonic friendship, he was touchy and hugged you often. Sometimes, you would even share cheek kisses! At first, it never meant anything, just a friendly relationship of two besties. It never meant anything more than that, to him.

However, overtime, you became attracted to him. If you had to choose the moment it all started, it would be the day you two were talking about ideal types. He described his as a tan, fit girl with monster thighs. You found yourself examining, becoming sad when you saw that you didn’t fit the description.

“Well,” you started, “I like a fit guy too. Someone who’s strong, funny, cute, but can also be y. Silly but serious when it’s time to be. A guy who understands me…” When you started listing the qualities you liked, you realized it. No way….I like….Jackson?

You shrugged your feelings off that day, but every time you’ve seen him since, it’s been hard to see him the same way again. Your heart beat faster, and you felt butterflies in your stomach. Trying to put these feelings away now was nearly impossible, since you fell hard for him. It was always there, just lying dormant. Some way, though, you had to find a way to hide it.

“Hey Y/N!” He smiled and came to hug you. You were at a fast food restaurant, and had been waiting for Jackson to show up. When he finally did, the same feelings hit you again. As he hugged you, you felt like staying there in that moment and confessing, but no, it wasn’t the right time yet.

You two ordered food, sat down, and enjoyed your meal, talking as you normally would. Nothing too much was different.

When you both finished eating and socializing, you got up to leave. As you rose, Jackson got up and pulled you into a hug.

“Ah, Y/N, I’m so glad we got to do this!” He let go to face you.

“You’re such a great friend.” Friend. Your heart sank every time you heard it.Right, that right, I’m just a friend.

You took the bus home, listening to your music. No matter what song you played to try and distract yourself, you couldn’t stop thinking about Jackson. Coincidentally, Best Friend by Jason Chen came on. You sighed as you turned the volume up.

When the bus came to your stop, you walked a few blocks to your house. As soon as you came in, you plopped onto your bed. Your focus was only on him and those few words. You’re such a great friend. You knew that he said that, but what if there was more to it? What if he felt the same you did, and he was trying to hide it too?

The next day, your normal routine was carried out. Jackson had work in the morning and you had things to do. Nonetheless, you both managed to meet up after your daily schedules every day. Some days it was hard to meet, but you both put up efforts to maintain the usual plan.

As you were waiting for Jackson near his dorm building, you fidgeted and tried to fix yourself up. Ugh, why am I like this?! It’s just Jackson… You tried to shift your frame of mind to think of something else, but the butterflies in your stomach had come back to bother you.

Jackson finally came down, asking, “Hey! There you are.”

“Here I am? Jackson, I’ve been here for like 15 minutes!” You sassed him.

“Okay okay, I’m sorry! Now, where to Y/N?”

“Ice cream, duh.”

You got your favorite flavor, and he got his, cookies n’ cream. Sitting down and enjoying your treat, Jackson talked about a show he was going to be on, Laws of the Jungle, and how you needed to watch it.

“Well yeah, what are friends even for?” You asked rhetorically. He gave you his best derp face and the only thing you could do in reply was to raise your brows at him. And I like this weirdo? Of course I do…

As the day came to an end, you and Jackson walked out and were about to part. When you told him you were going to walk home, though, he said he’d walk with you just to be safe.

The walk home was anything but quiet, as how it always is with Jackson. He always kept a conversation going, and he kept it lively. There was almost never a boring moment with him.

While he was talking on and on about his shoot in Nicaragua, you stared at him admirably. His natural face was so handsome, and you couldn’t help but look at his puppy eyes.

“Y/N, are you even listening? We’re literally right by your house.” You came out of your trance. You looked around and noticed that indeed, you were nearly right in front of your house. You grabbed your keys from your bag and turned the key in the lock. When the door opened, you stepped in and turned around to face Jackson.

“Thanks for walking me home, see you again tomorrow?”

“As always,” he said. As he turned around and started to walk back to his dorm, you got an anxious feeling in your stomach. I guess there’s no better time than now…

“Hey Jackson, wait a second!” You called out. He turned around confused and waited for you to run up to him.

“Yes?”

“I need to…tell you something.”

“Go ahead…” A short silence followed. You had to first work up the gut to do this, since you were already there.

“Well,” you started, “you see the thing is…I think that over the past few days, I noticed that my feelings for you sort of changed and maybe it was a few weeks ago, but I started to like you, a little more than a friend. And see the thing is with that, since I’ve had those feelings for so long…I think I kinda, really do see you as a man, and not just my best friend.” He stood there taking it all in. You got impatient waiting for his reply. When his face went stern, you immediately regretted your decision.

“Oh, well, I see you as a truly great friend, Y/N, and you always have been so nice to me. You’re funny and kind and in general, just a really awesome person! And I’m really flattered that you like me, but at this time, I don’t think I can say the same thing about you.”

You smiled bitterly, your eyes becoming glassy.

“And I know it will seem awkward at first, but I really want to stay friends! Good friends, like how we have been. And if it makes it easier, I can just forget abou-”

“No, it’s okay, you don’t have to do all that. I’ll still be friends with you.” You sighed stressfully.

“Sorry, just-, sorry, I made this awkward now, huh? Sorry, I’ll just see you later.” You turned around and walked inside your house. Without looking back.

I'm somewhat in the same dilemma and my heart sinks thinking about it (╥﹏╥)
