Foreword

GREY – he was always in black and white, or a muddy color that was something in between the two. He dressed in boring colors because everything was boring to him. His world was so small, so constricting, and so tiny. The same people, the same routine; it was suffocating. And because he saw no point, he dressed in black and white. The only time he was near bright colors was when he painted. Years after his death, when his paintings are hung in dimly lit museums, people will stand in awe at the vibrancy of his colors. The brush were alive, the colors too bright, and the subjects were beyond captivating.

His art wasn’t always like this. Before, he painted the usual – monotone landscapes and portraits of pretty girls –there was nothing that set him apart. He painted the orthodox because he was the orthodox. Nothing made him distinctive, nothing made his work extraordinary. However, slowly, colors started to creep in to his life.

RED – Chanyeol reminded him of fire. No, he was fire. The first time they met, he noticed how red Chanyeol's hair was. “Did it myself,” he said with a toothy grin. One day he came by the studio to watch him paint. He saw how immaculate his brush were – precise short , the best technique.

Chanyeol saw how he cursed and looked pained whenever he would make a mistake that was only visible to him. After watching him get frustrated for an hour, his friend piped up, “Why don’t you paint outside the lines?”

When the response was one of confusion, Chanyeol got up and dragged him out of the studio.

They ended up in front of a blank wall with cans of spray paints by their feet.

“Isn’t this illegal?” he asked.

“Yeah, but it’s art,” Chanyeol replied with a shrug.

BLUE – That day the sky was a perfect swatch of  Payne’s Grey on his palette - a mix of blue and ash. The library was empty that Saturday, except for him and another boy. The somber light of the day had cast a bluish tone over the other boy who was sitting next to a window. He was wearing a navy blue sweater.

His name was D.O. He reminded Jongin of color blue. Being blue meant being sad, but blue was also the color of the ocean – vast and daunting and filled with life.

YELLOW  GOLDEN – His name was Luhan and his smile could brighten up a rainy day. He had beautiful blonde hair and well Jongin thought the rest of him was beautiful too.

Luhan was a friend of a friend that he met at a party. He was an acquaintance that grew into a friend, but nothing more. He loved him so, but he never knew. He knew that his love couldn’t really be called love – it was empty – he only liked him because he could never stop looking at him.

Chapter 1: oh my god. I swear this is amazing. Throughout the reading, I thought it was fine but when I was about to reach the end, your story hit me like a truck in the most unexpected way! Wow, kudos dear author!

I was fascinated by how you used colour to precisely describe each characters that could be used in a painting.
You told us about colours that created an art but truthfully you words are already like a rainbow that pasted this fanfic into an aesthetically beautiful piece of art. Thank you :)

Daaaaaammmn, I did not expect the ending but it was perfect it every way. I love how you associated certain colors and feelings to each of the characters and kept it going throughout the whole thing without making it sound repetitive. The whole piece was so eerie and morbid, I loved it. You could tell how sick in the head Jongin was for preserving his friends the way he did. But it was also very much logical from his point of view.

Chapter 1: My freaking god, I'm sooooooooo shocked! I never thought I would like such a short story so much ;-;
I'm an artist too, so I can totally understand some of Jongin's feelings, but the end, wow, didn't expect it at all :0

Great story author-nim! I enjoyed it very much :)

I loved your story! ^^ You managed to convey so much in such a relatively short piece and I think that's really impressive.
I have one little remark; I feel that the foreword is a bit long considering the length of the story. Especially as it's also repeated in the story itself. Have you ever considered maybe only using the GREY part? I hope I'm not being too forward with my comment because I mean it in the nicest possible way. Thanks for posting such a great story!
