Mistake

Mistake

This is NOT a sequel to "Here" :)

Love. Hugs. Kisses. Mistake.
Yeah it all started with that "love". Or maybe it wasn't even love.

Lust. Yes. That was it.

"Mommy!" His sweet voice woke her up from her thoughts. Haewon felt two little arms encircling her neck from behind as she sat on the spread cloth under the tree. She placed her hands on the little ones and felt moist lips lightly pressed on her cheek.

At least there is something good that comes from the mistake.
Haewon thought as she pecked the cheek of the little boy in return.

"Did you have fun, Haneul-ah?" Haewon asked the boy with a smile as he moved to sit on her lap.

"Yes, mom!" The five-years-old nodded excitedly. "Dad went down the slide with me and he made me fly too! Like superman!" The boy answered gesturing extravagantly with his body making Haewon laughed.

"I'm a cool dad, aren't I?" The all-too-familiar deep voice wiped away her smile. The owner of the voice sat beside her and Haneul slipped away from her jumping to the man's lap.

"Yes, you are, Dad!" He chuckled as he was trapped in a warm hug. "Can you buy me another ice cream now since I've praised you?" He blinked his eyes cutely to his dad. His dad laughed and ruffled his hair.

"Sure!"

"Yay!"

Haewon sighed and shook her head as both males laughed cheerfully. "You're spoiling him, Chanyeol." She crossed her arms. Her comment stopped their laughter and they both turned to look at her.

"He's my son too."

"I know, but he has had two ice creams before we arrived here. He will catch a cold if he eat another one. And I'll be the one dizzied taking care of him. And I don't want to see my son sick."

"I'll help you take care of him if that happen. Just let me spoil him today. I haven't met him in a week." Chanyeol gave her his dimpled smile, but Haewon's gaze remained stern. "Please?" He raised both of his eyebrows making his eyes rounded more and pouted.

"Mom, pwease~" Haneul followed his dad's gesture pouting and blinking at his mom.

Haewon mentally groaned and closed her eyes for a moment before opening them and sighed. "Fine~ just one more, okay?"

"Yay!" Both Haneul and Chanyeol cheered as they clapped their hands and nodded.

"Now, give your mom a kiss," Chanyeol told Haneul and the boy obeyed hugging his mom and giving her a peck on her lips.

Haewon always felt hurt every time she saw Chanyeol, but it always dissipated every time she saw her little bundle of joy, Haneul. Yet, sometimes she couldn't help but to wonder about the what if's.

What if they never got divorced?
What if she never even married him?
What if that night never happened?
What if she never let herself fall for him?

It all started with one night. Haneul happened because of that one night that Haewon regretted. That one rainy night.

Chanyeol and Haewon were in their senior year at that time and had been in a relationship for almost 2 years after being friends all their life since their parents are best friends.

They quickly ran under the heavily pouring rain without an umbrella entering Haewon's house. One thing led to another and before they could let their mind take control of their bodies, they were already making out in her bedroom. And her parents just had to have a business trip that day out of all days. Haewon wanted to resist her desire for him, but she couldn't. How could she went she felt his kiss. The kiss just felt right. It wasn't rough, but wasn't timid either. Just right. She couldn't resist it when she felt his gentle touch caressing her body and his steady hold on her waist.

Truthfully, though guilt suddenly kicked in when the next morning came, she -or they- cherished the night. Until some time later when she found out she was carrying his child. Chanyeol's mind went blank when she told him. She could also see clear disappointment and anger in her parents' visage when she broke out the news. And from there onwards her life spiraled down. She had to quit school leaving her friends behind and took home-school instead. Not to mention she had to feel like she had brought shame upon her family every time she saw them although they had forgiven her. But what was worst was the fact that she had to endure it alone because Chanyeol went missing after the chastening from their parents. Even his parents didn't know where he went.

It wasn't until the third month of her pregnancy did he show up again. Haewon felt like strangling him when he came to her asking for a second chance, but she knew better that what's important was to make sure her baby would be born into a complete family. And seeing his sincere intention to take responsibility and marry her, she gave him a second chance.

They move out of their parents' house after she gave birth not wanting to burden their parents more. Everything seemed fine at first, but Chanyeol always seemed to distanced himself from both Haewon and Haneul. That's when she realized that her relationship with Chanyeol was never really mended. She wanted to endure for the sake of Haneul, but the heartache she was feeling from being ignored by Chanyeol was overwhelming that she decided to divorce him a year ago. She got full custody of the child, but she still let Haneul meet his dad. It wouldn't be fair for the boy to lose everything just because of her heartache.

"Superboy coming through!"

"Whee~!"

Entering the house right after Haewon opened the door, Haneul's hands curled into fists while Chanyeol carried him on his stomach. Haewon giggled a bit seeing the two as she let them pass through the door. Haneul was still laughing gleefully when Chanyeol put him down. Chanyeol crouched down in front of the boy and ruffled his hair.

"Okay now. Say bye to your daddy, honey," Haewon said with a smile still standing beside the open door. Haneul's laughter came to a stop almost immediately and he frowned.

"Can't Dad stay for dinner?"

Haewon sighed still with the same smile plastered on her face. "Honey, Dad needs to go home. He needs to work early tomorr-"

"Actually...," Chanyeol cut in standing up facing her, "I want to stay for dinner- I mean... if you don't mind." He smiled to her and then to his son.

Haewon looked at Haneul who was looking up at his dad while his hand reached for Chanyeol's. "Araso...," she relented.

"Yay!" Haneul jumped up and down while holding Chanyeol's hand making Chanyeol chuckle. "Then... Dad can cook us pasta. You said you miss his pasta right, Mom?"

"Haneul-ah!" Haewon was flustered by the boy's statement and she quickly ran to him scooping him up in her arms. Chanyeol blinked confusedly. "That was supposed to be our secret," she whispered to her son. Chanyeol pursed his lips to stifle his chuckle when he heard her words.

Haewon glanced at him before looking somewhere else the next second. She cleared before opening again. "Y-you go cook the pasta then. We...we'll change our clothes first." Before Chanyeol could even reply, she hurried upstairs carrying Haneul.

Chanyeol followed her with his gaze until she completely disappeared from his sight. He looked down and smiled to himself.

They spent dinner together. And it surely wasn't a silent one. Not with their talkative five-years-old kid. The room was filled with their joyous laughters. But Haewon couldn't help but be bothered by one thing: the fast beating of her heart every time she landed her gaze on her ex-husband.

That was exactly why she always hated the idea of all three of them spending time together. No matter how much she hated Chanyeol, her heart was too weak to resist falling for the same guy who let her down twice. She knew she would fall for him over and over again. And that was not fair for her because every time she gave in and let him enter her life, he screwed it up and hurt her.

"Come on. Let's go to sleep, sweety." Haewon stood up and gave out her hand for Haneul to take.

"Ah Mom~ I still want to talk to Dad," the boy whined.

"Haneul," she sighed and placed her other hand on her hip, "you have school tomorrow. You need to sleep, honey!"

Haneul pouted looking down at her hand but still not taking it.

"Haneul," Chanyeol, who was sitting beside him, his back gently, "We can meet again tomorrow. Right now, obey your mom!" Chanyeol told him authoritatively but with a smile. Haneul nodded defeatedly and took his mom's hand.

"Chanyeol -I'm sorry- but can you wash the dishes and - you know what? forget it. You can go home after you eat I'll wash the-"

Chanyeol chuckled. "It's okay. I'll wash the dishes. You go put Haneul to sleep."

Haewon blinked several times before tightening her grip on Haneul's hand. "Thanks," she muttered before pulling Haneul out of the dining room.

"Good night, Dad!" Haneul blew Chanyeol a kiss.

After putting Haneul to sleep, Haewon went downstairs again thinking Chanyeol had left. But to her surprise, he was still there brewing tea in the kitchen.

"Chanyeol?"

Chanyeol turned around to see Haewon walking inside the kitchen and gave her a smile before turning back to the tea.

"I thought you have gone home." She sauntered to the island counter and took a seat on the high chair.

"Here." Chanyeol turned back to her and slid a cup of tea across the counter. "You seemed to be so...stressed today." He gave her a playful smile. Flustered was the word he wanted to say to . Seeing that familiar playful smile plastered on his face Haewon narrowed her eyes on him suspiciously as she carefully pulled the cup closer to her.

"You didn't put anything funny in this tea did you?"

Chanyeol chuckled and looked down shaking his head. "Why would I put anything in there?" He raised his eyebrows and crossed his arms in front of his chest. Haewon pouted but lifted the cup to and took a sip.

"I didn't deny nor confirm anything though," Chanyeol muttered while turning his back on her.

Haewon's eyes widened at his statement and she spat out the tea sending some in the cup to spill over her too.

"Ya!" Haewon clicked her tongue and Chanyeol turned to look at her once again laughing after taking some paper towels for her. "That's not funny!" She frowned taking the paper towels from him and started wiping off the tea on her shirt. Chanyeol helped her leaning across the counter. Haewon didn't pay attention to his hand wiping the liquid on her collar bone with the paper towel.

Chanyeol was still chuckling. "You're still really gullible you kn-"

Their hands that were busy wiping the tea brushed against each other and Haewon let out a small gasp. Their gaze stop at their hands before they both looked up and had a brief eye contact. Chanyeol quickly pull his hand away and pushed himself from the counter. He awkwardly looked away eyes darting everywhere and cleared his throat. Haewon followed him with her gaze for a moment before she continued on wiping her shirt.

"Chanyeol... We need to talk." Haewon started. Chanyeol took a seat on the high chair across her and stayed silent lowering his head waiting for her to continue. Haewon closed her eyes for a brief second and took a deep breath. "Chanyeol... I'm... I'm moving to China...," He lifted his head in surprise, "and I'm taking Haneul with me."

Chanyeol was frozen in his spot for a good one minute before he finally found his ability to speak again. "What?"

"You know my parents are there and Dad's friend offered me a job. It's once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I want to take it..." ...and I need to go far away from you.

"And you're taking Haneul too?"

"Well... Technically, he's fully mine and I don't actually have to ask for your permission. I'm telling you this because I know you still have the right to know as his father."

Chanyeol's brows furrowed and he opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again. He closed his eyes and massaged his temple before he opened his eyes again. "Haewon...," he called her in a sigh, "don't you realize how selfish that is?"

Haewon's jaw drooped and her eyes widened at his remark. "Selfish?" She raised her voice and scoffed.

"I took responsibility of my action. I married you, then you suddenly wanted a divorce. But I agreed because I thought that will make you happy. So I signed the papers. And I didn't fight when you wanted full custody either," Chanyeol ranted raising his voice at every sentence. He was definitely enraged somehow. "And now you're completely taking Haneul away from me too?" His voice boomed loudly throughout the room.

Haewon blinked several times and pursed her lips trying to hold the tears threatening to escape her eyes.

"You called me selfish?" She glared at him and scoffed. She crossed her arms as she continued, "Did you know how painful it was to carry someone inside of you for 9 freaking months and give birth to him?"

"I was there beside you-"

"Did you know how stressful it was for me to go through the first three months of my pregnancy without you? And with enormous feeling of guilt towards my parents at that? Not to mention I had to even quit school and seclude myself from my friends too! Did you know how much shame I had to carry on my shoulders? And when you came back, I had to hold the urge to strangle you to death! But I gave in and let myself trust you once more. But you avoided me AND Haneul too throughout our marriage life in the mask of being busy with university. You thought I wasn't busy with university too? Did you know how much YOU SCREWED MY LIFE?!" Haewon let it out in one breath.

But Chanyeol right then was not backing down. "Oh come on! I screwed your life?! Don't go blaming it all on me, girl!" Chanyeol's jaw tightened before he continued, "You're right! I didn't know all your pain. But I did not screw your life! We did. You know we both made a mistake that night. Don't make me sound like a because I didn't you. We willingly did it consciously. And if you forget, you filed the divorce, not me! And you did it when I finally was able to get myself together and appreciate both of you. But maybe you were far too hurt to even realize it!"

"You-"

"Mommy? Daddy?" Haneul's sleepy voice made them both snapped their heads toward the kitchen entrance.

Haneul's head popped as he was hiding behind the wall to the entrance and both Haewon and Chanyeol softened and let out a deep sigh of regret.

"Are you...are you guys fighting because of the ice cream?" Haneul asked carefully looking like he was about to cry as if he was scared of both of them.

"No no no, sweetheart..." Haewon stood up from the chair and walked towards the boy crouching down in front of him afterwards and cupping his face. "We're not fighting... We're just... Did we wake you up?" Haewon asked him worriedly and Haneul slowly nodded. "I'm sorry. Come here." Haewon pulled him into a hug and lightly rocked back and forth. "I'm sorry, my baby." She kissed the top of his head. "Tell you what? I'll let Daddy read you a bed-time story. Okay?" Haneul's countenance immediately lit up as he looked up at Haewon.

"Chanyeol..." Haewon slowly stood up and turned to look at Chanyeol who was still sitting down with face buried in one hand. "Can you please read him a story?"

Chanyeol uncovered his face and looked at her with a questioning look. Haewon silently nodded her head towards Haneul who was standing beside her and Chanyeol gave a small smile when he saw him.

"Sure!" He walked towards them and immediately scooped him up in his arms walking towards the stairs. Chanyeol stopped after a few steps and glanced back at Haewon who immediately looked away. He then continued to walk upstairs smiling down on the boy he was carrying. Haewon heaved out a long breath running her fingers through her hair when they were out of her sight.

Haewon opened the door to Haneul's bedroom half an hour later and found her son already sleeping so soundly on Chanyeol's stretched arm. Chanyeol apparently had fallen asleep too with a book left opened lying on his stomach. Haewon walked in and took away the book carefully before rearranging the blanket over them. She planted a kiss on Haneul's forehead and placed the book on his bedside table. She turned off the bed lamp and walked for the door when she heard movement from the bed. She turned back around and saw Chanyeol trying to get up.

"Just stay here for the night. It's already late... and Haneul will love to wake up seeing you beside him," whispered Haewon.

Chanyeol paused for a moment before lying back down. Haewon walked for the door again.

"When?" Chanyeol's deep whisper stopped Haewon from opening the door, but she didn't turned around. "When are you moving to China? Does he know?"

"Next week," she answered still facing the door she now slightly opened. "And no, he doesn't know yet. I haven't told him. But I will." She heard Chanyeol sighed at her answer.

"We'll talk again tomorrow. You should rest too now," Chanyeol told her.

Haewon slightly bobbed her head and walked out of the room.

Chanyeol joined the two at a playground near Han River after work. He sat down beside Haewon on a bench facing the playground. They both silently watched their son happily playing, going down on the slide and running around with some new friends. Haneul certainly looked much happier than the usual. Probably because he could spent breakfast with both his mom and dad.

"I'm sorry." Chanyeol broke the silence and Haewon looked at him who still had his gaze on the boy.

She stayed silent for a while looking at his side profile before she turned her head to look back at her son and spoke, "What for?"

"Yesterday." Haewon could hear a heavy sigh following the guilt-coated answer. She just hummed in reply not really wanting to talk with him.

"You're not selfish for making that decision." Chanyeol continued and turned his head to look at Haewon who was already looking at him with confused expression. He smiled a bitter smile. "I have no more right to control your decision. I've been...thinking about it all night. You were right. Though we both made a mistake, I had put you through more troubles... I made a mistake for leaving you then. I made a mistake for ignoring you and Haneul, and...for signing that divorce paper when I know I could've hold on."

"Chanyeol...," Haewon sighed feeling guilty herself for making Chanyeol feel that way. Suddenly she felt one of his hands on her cheek caressing it ever so gently catching Haewon off guard.

"Giving up on us - that's the biggest mistake I've ever done." He paused and continued, "Haewon...," Chanyeol's deep voice calling her name made her heart beat abnormally fast. She kept on questioning herself why that was so. He hurt her. She hated him. They were over a long time ago. Why couldn't her heart learn that? She shouldn't feel this kind of feeling she had years ago for him.

"What we did back then was wrong," Chanyeol continued, "Our parents were right. We shouldn't have done it. But I need to tell you that...loving you was never a mistake for me. You are never a mistake in my life." Chanyeol's eyes held her gaze, and right then Haewon didn't know what to feel- whether her heart is swelling with happiness or shattered into pieces. "And though I regret what we did back then, Haneul is not a mistake either. He's the most precious gift and I regret not realizing it sooner." Haewon hung her head down avoiding his gaze to hide her teary eyes and Chanyeol's hand slipped away from her cheek. She didn't know what to reply. It felt as if words had been taken out from her.

"Don't worry," Chanyeol smiled. "I won't ask you to give me another chance because I don't deserve it. I just want to propose something."

"What is it?" Haewon's words came out croaked.

"I initially wanted to ask for your permission to let Haneul stay with me for one week, but... I realize now that I want to make up for all the lost times with...you too. So...," Chanyeol looked elsewhere suddenly feeling nervous. "I want us three to stay together just for this one week before you go." Haewon seemed surprised as she abruptly lifted her head. "That is if you don't mind," Chanyeol quickly added.

Haewon's lips parted slightly as she tried to make a decision. Though it was only for a week, letting him enter her life - for the god-forbidden third time!- was not easy for her. She had set her mind on leaving for China and start afresh there with Haneul, but she feared she would once again fall in love with him. But then seeing his sincerity and good intention, it might burden her with more guilt if she didn't give him a chance.

"Okay." She simply answered and looked away from him while Chanyeol smiled widely.

He took her hand in his making Haewon flinched. She looked at their intertwined fingers and then at him.

"Thanks." He smiled sweetly to her and she nodded with a small smile.

As predicted, Haneul is beyond happy to know he could see both of his parents together though for only one week. He was happy to have his dad drive him to school and his mom pick him up. But what overjoyed him was his dad coming home to their house. He might still be young, but he knew that his parents weren't together anymore unlike normal parents of his friends at kindergarten. And all he wanted and had been praying all night was for his parents to not hate each other again.

Chanyeol opened the door to Haneul's room one night to check on him only to pause opening the door wider when he saw the little boy kneeling beside his bed clasping his hands.

"Why are you standing at the door?" Haewon's voice came as she approached him from behind.

She was about to push open the door placing her hand over his on the door knob, but Chanyeol prevented her from doing so. He put his index finger in front of his mouth signaling her to stay quiet. Haewon looked puzzled.

"He's praying," he whispered to her ear and Hewon lifted her brows and widened her eyes in surprise. They both leaned their ears closer to the crack formed by the slightly opened door.

"Dear God," Haneul started, "I don't always talk to you, but thank you for bringing mommy and daddy together. Pwease don't sepawate them again. Pwease stop them from fighting with each other. I pwomise I won't ask for too much ice cream. Amen."

Haneul stood up and climbed the bed pulling the cover over him and closed his eyes with a smile. Chanyeol closed the door and Haewon sighed closing her eyes and rubbing her forehead.

"I should've told him sooner," she said running her hand through her hair. "I'll tell him of the plan tomorrow." She looked up at Chanyeol and gave him a small smile. "I'll go to my room. You should sleep too." Haewon turned to walked for her room when she felt a hand grabbing her wrist.

"Haewon," Chanyeol turned her back around.

"Hmm?" Haewon raised her brows.

Can you not go? Can we start over?
Chanyeol wanted to say those words so badly, but he decided against it. He had weighed her down for far too long. He's not going to do it again. "Good night." He released his grip on her wrist and smiled receiving another smile from her.

"Good night, Chanyeol."

The next day, Haewon decided to tell Haneul of her plan to move to China when she picked him up at his kindergarten. She told him about it when they were walking from his school. And as she expected, the boy didn't take the idea of being separated from his dad happily. Tears started streaming down on his cheeks and he wriggled his hand free from hers.

"I hate you!" He shouted and started running away.

"Haneul-ah!" Haewon was shocked and she started chasing for him. But before she knew it, he was lost form her sight. She started to panic and turned 360 degrees looking for him among the passing people. "Haneul-ah!" She shouted, but couldn't find him.

Her heart pounded in fear and a drop of tear fell on her cheek. She tried to calm herself down but to no avail. ChanyeolThe only name that popped in her mind. She fumbled for her phone and started dialing him. Upon hearing his voice, Haewon only cried even more. Chanyeol panicked hearing her cry. She started explaining the situation to him in between her sobs.

"Okay okay. Don't panic. Just calm down. I'm on my way there and we'll look for him together, okay?" Haewon nodded though she knew Chanyeol couldn't see it as she tried to stop herself from crying.

Chanyeol came a few minutes later and he immediately wrapped his arms around her to calm her down. They came to the conclusion that Haneul couldn't have run that far. They decided to go to a park nearby.

"Haneul-ah!" "Park Haneul!" They both shouted when they entered the park stopping by every now and then when they come across other visitors to ask whether they have seen a little boy alone.

They came to the playground in the park, but found it empty as it was already getting dark. Panic and desperation kicked in Haewon again. She clasped Chanyeol's arm and tears started welling in her eyes.

"Chanyeol, what if we lose him? What if he get lost? What if he get kidnapped? What if-"

"Shhh." Chanyeol hugged her and caressed her hair. Haewon rest her head on his chest and tried to hold her tears. "We won't lose him."

"But what if-"

"Hey," he pulled her an arm-length away from the hug and bended down a bit so his eyes met hers. "Listen to me. We are not going to lose him. We will find him. But I need you to stay calm now. Okay?" Haewon nodded, but worry was still written on her face.

Right then she just wished she could feel Chanyeol's warm embrace again. And as if he was able to read her mind, he pulled her into a hug again. Leaning her head on his chest, she could hear his heart beating somewhat fast. It made her wonder if he actually felt what she had been feeling.

Suddenly they heard a sniff. Haewon lifted her head away from his chest. Another sniff followed by soft sobs were heard again.

"Did you hear that?" Haewon asked looking up at Chanyeol and he nodded.

They broke from the hug and looked around the empty playground.

"Haneul?" Haewon called.

They approached a tunnel slide and there he was. Haneul was sitting inside the slide hugging his legs burying his head between them.

"Haneul-ah...," Haewon breathed a sigh of relief and she crouched down in front of the slide. "Sweety, don't cry. Come here." She tried to reach for his arm but he scooted away.

"I don't want to see you." He cried breaking Haewon's heart. She drew back her hand.

Chanyeol pursed his lips and crouched down beside Haewon.

"Haneul-ah, talk to me." Chanyeol reached for his arms that were hugging his legs and the boy finally lifted his head up. Haneul immediately leaped into his arms hugging his neck.

"Why are you crying?" Chanyeol asked him as his hand his head.

"Mommy wants to sepawate us again," Haneul sniffed. "I hate Mom!" Haewon let out a soft gasp and lowered her head.

"Park Haneul!" Chanyeol pulled him away a little from the hug and looked at his eyes. "Do not ever say that to your mom! Because Mommy loves you."

"But why do we have to go?" Haneul pouted.

"Will you miss me and Mom if you live far away?" The boy still pouted but nodded anyway. "Well...Mommy misses Grandma and Grandpa. That's why you are going there. Don't you miss them too?" Haneul nodded again. "So... Don't cry." Chanyeol wiped away the tears on Haneul's cheeks with his thumbs.

"But...why you don't come with us?" Haneul asked carefully.

"Because...," Chanyeol glanced at Haewon for a second before returning his gaze to Haneul, "because Daddy has work to do here."

"Is it because you and mommy hate each other?"

"No-"

"Do you still love mommy?"

Haewon lifted her head surprised of his question. Chanyeol pursed his lips and blinked several times at his son. Haneul only looked at him with round eyes waiting for his dad to answer.

"I do. I love your mom very much!" He glanced at Haewon who looked bewildered by his answer. Chanyeol looked back at Haneul and continued, "No one can replace your mom in my heart. So that's why I need you to go with her and make sure she's okay there. Aren't you superboy?" Haneul's eyes immediately sparkled in excitement as he nodded. "Then be a good superboy and look after your mom, okay?" Chanyeol ruffled his hair.

"Okay, Dad!" Haneul grinned and looked at his mom before running towards her and hugging her. "I'm sorry, Mom. I love you!"

"It's okay, honey." Haewon tightened her hold around his small body. "Mommy's sorry too." Haewon glanced at Chanyeol and he gave her a smile.

The day of their departure arrived and Haewon was bothered by her feeling of being burdened to leave. Chanyeol drove them to the airport and he couldn't feel less burdened either. Along the way to the airport, he kept on glancing down at Haewon's hand feeling the urge to just hold it and tell her to stay. But he couldn't bring himself to do so. And he couldn't shake off that urge even until it was time for them to say goodbye.

"Pwomise you will come, ne?" Haneul pouted at his dad.

"Sure. I promise. But you need to promise me you will be a good boy to your mom and protect her while I'm not there, okay?" Haneul nodded to Chanyeol and lifted his pinky finger. Chanyeol smiled and made a pinky swear with him.

"Okay, sweety~ we need to go inside." Haewon called her son and Haneul obeyed grabbing her hand.

Chanyeol stood up and stared at her for the last time before taking a step closer to her.

"Be happy there, Haewon. You deserve it." He placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Thanks, Chanyeol."

Their eyes locked, but Haewon quickly averted her gaze to Haneul. Looking at Chanyeol a little longer will only make her doubt her decision even more. She turned to walk for the gate with Haneul, but found herself spun around the next second. Chanyeol was holding on her arm. She looked at him with a questioning look. He opened his mouth to say something, but decided against it right after, and instead, he took a step closer to her and leaned forward to give a peck on her forehead. Haewon was taken by surprise and she unconsciously tightened her grip on Haneul's hand. Chanyeol said another goodbye when he pulled himself away and told them to enter the gate.

Haneul was busy playing with Haewon's tab when they were sitting in the boarding lounge. But Haewon's mind was clouded with thoughts. Memories of Chanyeol and herself came flooding her mind. She remembered how goofy he was during their school days, how he stayed beside her when she was laboring in giving birth to their son, how - although he was distancing himself - he never failed to remind her to have her meals. Haewon brought her hand to her chest feeling the fast beating of her heart which had not slowed down since Chanyeol gave her a forehead kiss awhile ago. She closed her eyes eyebrows knitting in the middle.

"Dammit, Chanyeol!" She muttered under her breath.

Chanyeol felt miserably empty when he got back to his apartment. He lied down on his couch and took out his phone opening the photo library. He tapped on a photo and caressed the screen with his thumb. It was a selca he took with Haewon and Haneul between them. Although he knew Haewon hated him, at least she was genuinely happy in this picture. He smiled when he saw Haneul's happy face.

"I really did screw it big time huh, Haewon?"

Chanyeol drifted to sleep soon after. He was awaken half an hour later by the knock on his door. He rubbed his eyes and woke up lazily heading for the door. He still felt sleepy, but when he opened the door, his drowsiness vanished almost immediately. He blinked several times making sure that what he was seeing is real.

"Dad!" Haneul hugged his leg and he was still blinking trying to register everything in his mind.

"Haneul? Haewon?" He looked at Haewon who tried to avoid his gaze.

His lips started to curl upward and he lifted Haneul up from the ground.

"Dad! We're not going!"

Chanyeol laughed and hug him. "I can see that! But...," he looked at Haewon again, "why?" He questioned her.

Haewon seemed to be contemplating a lot on what to answer. Chanyeol put Haneul down and told the boy to go find some snacks in the kitchen. Haneul obeyed and sprinted to the kitchen. Chanyeol led Haewon inside the appartment and faced her again.

"Why?" He pressed.

"Because...," Haewon bit down her lip and lowered head. "Because I'm a fool." Chanyeol raised one eyebrow at her statement. "I'm a fool who never learned from my past mistakes," she continued. "I'm...I'm a fool who keeps on falling for the same jerk over and over again no matter how many times he has hurt me." Her eyes started welling with tears threatening to escape any second. "No matter how much I hate him, my heart just keeps on going back to him. I'm such a fool, aren't I?" She looked up at Chanyeol and immediately felt his arms wrapping around her body.

Once he tightened his hold around her body, her tears just freely fell. Chanyeol let her cry in his embrace for awhile her hair soothingly. Before he knew it, a drop of tear fell on his cheek too. He couldn't exactly express what he was feeling. One thing he knew: he was grateful.

"So...," Chanyeol started after a few minutes still hugging Haewon whose face was buried on his chest, "start over?" His voice came out quivering. He could only hear her muffled sobs for a moment before he felt her nodding in his chest. Chanyeol smiled and closed his eyes. "Thank you." He tightened his hug and kissed the top her head.

"Mommy? Daddy? Why are you crying?" Haneul's voice made them pull away from the hug slowly. "Did I do something bad?" Haneul frowned looking scared.

"No...," they both answered in between sniffs and kneeled in front of their son.

"You didn't do anything wrong, honey." Haewon cupped his face. Her cheeks were still wet with her tears. "You are such an angel. You know that? You are our greatest gift." She pulled him into a hug resting his head on her chest. "And you know what? You don't have to be sad anymore with us living separately because from now on, we will always be together." Haneul lifted his head and pulled away from the hug in surprise.

"All twee of us?" He asked and both of his parents nodded. "Does that mean you don't hate each other anymore?" His eyes glinted with happiness and the corner of his lips slightly curled upward.

Chanyeol chuckled and nodded. "Yes. Mommy and Daddy will not be separated again. We will live together."

"Yay!" Haneul jumped up and down and hugged both of his parents' neck with each of his arms. "I love you!"

"We love you too."

Chanyeol and Haewon glanced at each other and smiled.

Don't worry, Haewon. I won't screw it up again this time. Chanyeol spoke in his mind. I promise.
