He gives me his shy smile and I’m conflicted for the first time. I don’t do love. I run away from it. I can’t feel it but his eyes tell me there’s more to come. This isn’t the last time I’ll see him and that scares me. He comes closer and I turn my gaze away; he can’t see how desperately I need to get away from him, from myself. 

“Don’t go.” He whispers in my ear. Tears brim in the dark corners of my heart and I say nothing. 

“Please.” He looks down at me and takes my face. His brown eyes shimmering and glistening, what a sight. 

“I’ll do whatever you want but please don’t leave.” 

“Then go.” I tell him. 

His breath hitches and he shakes his head. “Why are you so stubborn?” 

“I can’t be here anymore.”
