I've been wondering, do kpop groups (Like EXO) write their own songs?

Like, the songs that they released, are they written by them or whut? Because I really like the lyrics in some of the songs is their albums (EXO)

EXO wrote Promise on their own, Big Bang writes all their songs, so does BTS, FT Island, Ikon, Winner, Akmu, actually all YG artists, CN Blue, Shinee, and actually a lot of the big name groups

I know BTS writes song songs, and Seventeen, Big Bang/GD does too. Winner and iKON does. There are rappers that write their own lyrics, like VIXX Ravi and AOA Jimin

Lay writes his own songs but I don't think any of them so far is in the album (?) I'm not sure about that but I know he writes his own songs. Whether they are in the album, I don't know. I know some BTS members write their own songs though and I think some of them are in the album :-)

In BTS... its Rapmon,J-Hope and Suga but each members is now composing of their own songs as well, I hope EXO published their own songs, I only heard Lay's Tears at Airport in youtube, it was released when I think he was still a trainee back then

Not yet for exo. They still have people write then for them as far as I know. Most of the songs on any sm group are written for them. I know that sooyoung has written some for snsd. Eunhyuk wrote gulliver. Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Henry, Ryeowook, and donghae all eighteen compose or write lyrics.
There maybe other groups that write songs, they just never get published.

Exo's songs that came out on the Growl album (as far as I know) are written by lyricists and composers. But mind you when kpop artists make an album, they would mostly go through a process of recording more songs than intended and then choose the best out of the bunch to put in the album so EXO may have sent in some songs that were self composed or lyrics written by them but haven't made the final cut. Maybe with time they would have a self composed album. B1A4 recently released a self composed album I think so exo might release one when they have more exposure to influences and their sunbaes :L

Well, some artists write there own songs. But there has to be a time where composers write lyrics for artists (like EXO) too. Because idols are busy! Like.... really BUSY! ><

I know big bang write their own songs. When big bang members do solo comebacks, they write a few of their own songs or GD/Teddy does.

Beast, Jungyung, write some of their own songs.

Block B zico write his own songs

CL wrote some of the songs in their newest album

M.I.B writes their own songs

I think G.O and thunder from mblaq wrote some songs for mblaq. . . I think. I know they write songs though

I think some teen top members like c.a.p and l.joe write some of their own verses for songs but I don't if they ever wrote a whole wrong

I know for once Chanyeol wrote the rap section in Overdose and Run, and I heard Lay is producing a song for their next album. And I think everybody knows G-Dragon write and produce BigBang songs.
But I know for sure BTS (Bangtan) always write and produce their own song since they debuted. 3 members are actively write and produce song for their group, others just pitch in here and there :)

I think usually rookie groups wouldn't have a lot of chances to write and produce their songs, it's usually for those more senior in the music industry that have these privileges to do so i think because they have more experience, and they know the different elements that are vital to producing a good song, and another thing is the reputation of the companies. Usually bigshot companies like SM would be pretty catious with their idols and only give them.some slack after a few years,so we can't really expect rookies like EXO come up with their own songs just yet. But if for rookies under those less famous comapnies such as BAP, they could possibly have a higher chance of writing their own songs because they don't really stand a chance against all the pros who work for the bigger companies, but from what I see, BAP has been doing pretty well writing and producing their own songs.
