What do you think about keeping diary?

lately, I've been thinking about writing one but I'm afraid if someone would find it and read it. I've tried before but when I read it again after few months, I ripped the pages and burned it. lol. because I felt so stupid. do you have diary?

I must have one in a year. It's good for me to remember a lot of things that i need too. The best way for me to away the important date or moments.

I would like to start keeping one. It's not stupid, but I wouldn't tell people about it since people will get curious and most likely will look through it. It's a great way to remember things. I also keep a kpop journal so I can put things in as well.

just write your current thoughts/feelings; don't worry about whether it's stupid or whatnot because if you do, your writing becomes inauthentic.
Tbh it's inevitable to cringe when you read old diaries, but that's okay, because you're not writing diaries so your future self can think "wow I was such a great, mature person back then." You're writing a diary as a form of comfort/release.

I keep a diary and it helps a lot. To be honest I dont write in it every day and i dont do this "dear diary" stuff either, but I write in it when I feel like I could again. I also dont write about what happened like "I was shopping and meeting friends", because I dont feel the need to. Some use their diary for that (my sister does) but that just doesnt work for me ^^' I write what I think and whats going through my head. Its hard to describe but sometimes I just think twice or more umes about the same thing and then I write it down in my diary and I dont have to think about it again and I feel kind of relieved....? (Its more like a pensieve for me xD)

They keep you creative and help bring new thoughts out, plus writing feelings down help you realise how stupid they are to worry about as well, because putting feelings into words can make them sound irrelevant. Also, Diaries help in your creative writing skills. But of course, if you feel stupid about somebody reading it, why don't you switch all the names of people you are writing about with Kpop characters and name yourself an OC? So when people read it even accidentally, they might think it's a fanfic (first person). But for you, you get a disguise and make it sound like story too. WOn't this help in your creative writing skills? Write as if it's an OC's diary but with all real scenarios and feelings ^^

i had it once before. but my eldest sister was really nosy. she read it and then shared it with my other older sister. they kept teasing me, so i ripped everything and throw it away. i vowed to myself to never get close to such thing anymore. it scarred me for life.

I have one, I'm really bad at remembering to write in it regularly but when I'm going through tough times, having somewhere to convey myself really helps. No one actually tries to look for my diary, so I don't even keep it super secret, but I probably could hide it easily if I wanted to. You don't have to re-read your diary too, though, its nice when you have good memories. I keep mine as a place to let go my thoughts that I don't want to keep to myself (ish).

I suggest you do! I've been writing in journals for the past nine years, and for me, I write to cherish memories, and the different phases I go through, and to see my development. I do not necessarily write deep secrets.. I get how you might feel stupid, because I feel stupid about some of the things I wrote in the past, but you shouldn't feel this way. In a few years, you will look back at the things you wrote and maybe have a laugh about it, maybe it will make you realize some things, and it can help you clear your thoughts. So, I say go for it! and if you fear that someone might find your diary, make sure to always hide it after writing, put it away in a secret place :) I do that lol

I don't really keep any Diary. I had once before but as far as I can remember, I only had a few entries. I seldom use it. And there are times that I feel like if I misplace it, someone will be able to read it and well, know my deepest darkest secret. LOL.

@awesomedork89 I used to before so, I kept it in a usb flash drive. But now I have Microsoft Word and the document is on my One Drive. So if my computer breaks, the document is safe.

I do, I've had one since 2010 and it's always nice to go back and read my old entries. It's like it takes me back to those times and also makes me think how I've changed since then. I'd recommend you too write one ^^ and I keep my journal on my computer, and it's password protected so nobody can see it :P

I don't technically have one as I write my emotions into my stories and keep a little list of stuff going on in my phone (for my therapy appointments). I think it's fine to have a diary! It's nice looking at your past and realising how much you've grown in the last year, or even last few months. That being said, I have had my journals read before, by accident, but it put a real dent in my relationship with my mum for a while. Depends what you write, where you keep it, and who could possibly read it.
