I screamed at a Kpop fan online. The ARMY comments finally got to me.

I've been listening to Kpop for over 7 years now. My first songs were, SNSD's Gee, Big Bang and 2NE1's Lollipop, 2NE1's Fire and SHINee's Lucifer.
When SM started releasing EXO's many teasers in 2011/2012, I was on Me2day screaming and fangirling with other K-pop fans about the new 3rd generation of Kpop and went mad over BAP's debut. I found out about BTS 2/3 weeks before their debut in 2013 and I can write an Essay on the reasons why they got as big as they are today (SM lawsuits, BAP lawsuits- the rise of Hiphop in South Korean Society and the need for a band that could deliver, their initial sound etc). Saying that all, i took a step away from being a giant K-pop fan for a year and...calmed down.

I wouldn't scream if I met them in person. I'd want to talk to them in person and congratulate them for their hard work and dedication. I'd also yell at their producer for plagiarising a bunch of stuff but that doesn't need attention at all since nobody has stepped up to say anything.

But I can't help but HATE ARMY. They are the reason I stopped listening to BTS. Given the fact that I was an EXOTIC (before they became EXO-L) for a while, the fans that would make dirty jokes and even fantaisize about them, I cannot for the life of me understand the mentality behind ARMY.
They are so ANNOYING. So many comments on Youtube videos that do not relate to Kpop at all have Army replying to each other's comments with "omg ARMY! OMG BTS INFIRES ME, JIMIN YOU GOT NO JAMS"... but why?! WHY EVERY COMMENT?! Why can;t they just enjoy the video and comment about the video...not BTS.

Saying all this, I finally snapped and yelled at an ARMY not too long ago. Was it justified or do I need to apologise? While I feel relieved to finally let it out, I feel a little guilty that this could be a fragile teen that could hurt themselves by taking my comment to heart. I dunno. I'm just sick of ARMY. I can't relate to the immature obsession at all.

Any Suggestions??

@Ellyjelly96 It's a text. There isn't an intonation in it, therefore you can't really say/tell if I'm being aggressive or not. But whatever think as how ever you wish of me and my “passive aggressive” comment. If that's what makes you feel better when you can't accept the facts and people who addresses the entire discussion and not bits of it then go ahead have your way. Like I said, with ears to see and eyes to listen. Good day.

P.s. Again, I'm not being aggressive or passively aggressive or whatever.. Probably it's the fact that I'm too plain-spoken and unambiguous or that I don't use emojis that makes people think I'm aggressive… but here have a smile :) if that makes it better.

@pandalaxic LOL. WELL DONE.
I actually laughed when I read this because despite you saying you’re not angry, your post is very aggressive and I don’t feel like getting worked up over this like I did ONCE with that fan, the other day. You obviously didn’t read my post properly and decided to just HAVE A GO at me for asking if what I did was justified or if I needed to apologise because it was probably a young fan. I checked your profile to find out where you were from and I saw your feed. I didn’t check your fics. I didn’t check the discussion page to see if everyone else was writing about what I wrote about because I came on here as soon as I did what I did. If t other older fans have an issue with it then my feelings must be justified, therefore the problem is over. And also my issue wasn’t with BTS plagiarising, it was with their PRODUCER. So all of your accusations are wrong. You can still be annoyed at me as I am with most (85%) army but I won’t respond to your next reply should you chose to write one because I don’t care for aggressive fanatics such as yourself who seem to get worked up enough to make so many accusations. Again it really makes me think about how I’m not the only one who has immature and idiotic moments online. Thanks for that.

@Ellyjelly96 Okay, good for you and checking out my profile to check if I am ARMY or not. Quote me on that and also quote me on the latest one on my feed because it applies to everyone, including me. Breaking News; I am not an ARMY. I write about EXO and BTS because it makes the people on my friend list (and ones that are not) happy and I love making them happy. Because some of the people in my friend list have actual problems than just whining about a comment section that no one really cares about — unless they see ARMY— and if a fan fiction of their favorite OTP is what gets them through the day then so be it. Don't even read as I'm angry because I am not angry nor triggered. This is not something I take personal. What I am feeling is exhaustion from people like you who come and complain unbiasedly because they get overwhelmed by literally stupidity. You don't jump into bandwagons but you're writing a discussion that has been written already multiple times in this site? You don't jump into bandwagons but you are claiming that BTS did plagiarized when, in fact, they only have ONE scandal while YGEnt and SMEnt have done far worse. You said you could write an essay about these things, so I presented mine with history and actual facts rather than ones invented by haters. So I guess it wasn't what you meant. I move along then. No one has ever cared about the comment section of a video until they started to see ARMYs in it everywhere. Literally. I am 23 so I've been here two more years longer than you (doesn't make me special) and I would like to tell you how wrong you are about teens; teens are not the ones being problematic. It's the adults. Exhibit A: this entire discussion. Most teens literally mind their own business with their fandoms. It's the that have a problem with it. In fact I've seen the AUDACITY of some adults bypass as teens to damage a fandom. But… with ears to see and eyes to listen. And if my previous comment actually helped then you're welcome.

On one end, I think if people would stop letting the loud, obnoxious s speak for an entire fandom then they wouldn't be so quick to group an entire fandom that way.

But I'm being a hypocrite. I often think this way about KPOP fandom completely. EXOTICS (EXO-L) used to be a fandom that I hated entirely too, and Army is becoming that because they're gaining more people. In the end, isn't it the KPOP fandom in general? Because every group at the peek of popularity have those annoying bundles that make the whole fandom look like . It's the very reason why, even though I LOVE BTS and am a fan of BTS, just like I loved EXO and used to be a fan of EXO, still didn't consider myself part of the fangroup. They tend to go to far like ing sororities.

But I think it's unfair to hate a group just because their fan . I couldn't blame EXO for their loud obnoxious fangirls, so why treat BTS that way? If their music is good and you enjoy it, then enjoy it. If the comments annoy you, download the ext to hide Youtube comments. So snapping at one person because you're annoyed by the whole IS NOT justified. If they're just high fiving one another in a comment and weren't starting fanwars and dissing other groups, then there was absolutely no reason to take that out on them.

And if you wouldn't want someone doing that to you, why do it to someone else?

@pandalaxic I’m not going to lie to you and say that I was completely conscious, unbiased and knowledgeable about all of the scandals, hate and slander between artists, fandoms and fandom to artist in the 7 years that I’ve been listening to Kpop. Yes it HAS been 7 years. I started listening to it when I was 14 and I am now 21. I had no clue of what fandoms were or the hate that they could amass for each other because I was only listening to the music. It was only in 2012 that I really become conscious of how toxic the world of K-pop could be from plagiarisms of SM songs to the dating scandals that would lead to death threats and ‘fan-wars’. To be honest I don’t understand the blind bias people have to just one fandom because I don’t belong to any specific fandom. I don’t jump onto bandwagons as you claim and I sure as hell haven’t been obsessive and ‘in it’ that deep to know all about every single scandal in seven years. I get that my discussion has triggered you to write a strong enough reactionary statement in reply and has also been enough for you to write this on your own message feed: “Is it me or has aff become toxic from the last two years? And it isn't even a specific fandom it's just all of the people complaining and hating for absolute no reason.”
That surely means you must be able to understand my plight when I see again and again, the incessant, never ending immaturity of fans where I shouldn’t have to see it and how it got to me, and I snapped ONCE. Being in Kpop for 7 years, I KNOW how the fandom as a WHOLE gets and that’s why I asked if what I did was justified. I didn’t ask for a massive lesson on the history of idol scandals and fan reactions because I know what I did was hypocritical. That doesn’t make me, for the one thing I said, a hypocrite. It did eat me up after I did it, but It’s done. I appreciate your comment and the time you took to write it. It has made me see that I am not the only one who gets worked up over things I see in the internet and as an adult, I should learn to overlook the stupid and innocent comments of obsessed teens who don’t know better and don’t know how to channel their almost evangelical love and worship of BTS. I don’t hate BTS. I just dislike a heavy percentage of their fans and it got to me once. Thanks again for the comment.

My nindo in life is this: if I don't like something, I'm not even paying attention to it. The fandom of ARMYs is young, and I can relate to the fact that sometimes they are a little annoying, but why should we care about them? We like kpop for the music first, and there is no denying BTS is making good music, that's a fact. They are big now because BigHit had the right strategy: showing BTS everytime, on Twitter, fancafe, Youtube with the Bangtan Bombs, dance practices, variety shows, etc. Go on Youtube search for kpop, you'll find BTS, so it's normal their fandom is overly excited about this.
Now concerning the fact that ARMYs are denying older artists, I think the groups from the 1st and 2nd generation have nothing to prove today because most of them were and still are successful. It's a good thing BTS is the trend because it shows that not only groups from the Big 3 (SM, YG, JYP) can succeed. Enjoy BTS for their music and performances, ignore the immature part of the fandom, because many ARMYs are very cool and suffer from the hate they receive due to the immature ones' acts. Apologize if you feel you should, I think you spoke your mind so unless you spoke harsh words and were rude, there's no need to apologize in my opinion.

Yeah, no. I'm not going to say you should apologize because that comes from you but I do think that you are very immature. For being a kpop fan for about 7 years you should know that this has happened before. All the fanwars between 2NE1 fans versus SNSD fans. Or are you going to say that it didn't happen? Let's put it in a more obvious and undeniable scene; how Shawols threw ELFs under a bus and humiliated the entire fandom multiple times. Even worse, are you going to say that things weren't as ugly as now? Because Shawols sending death threats to ELF was a pretty huge thing and hard to miss. Don't get me even started with Big Bang's fans. Oh, before I move on, did you know that G-Dragon was accused of plagiarism? Yeah, he "plagiarized" American artist Flo-Rida. Of course we are going go ignore al of the things I've mentioned because it's in the past, right? In more recent times, EXO-Ls witch hunting ARMYs for doing exactly what they do. EXO-Ls doesn't even know the word respect the past members and current members. The majority of K EXO-Ls want Lay gone from the group or, are we going to try and hide the sun with the palm of our hands? EXO-Ls till this day STILL make fun of Kai's skin color. EXO-Ls STILL talk ILL of Taeyeon. EXO-Ls TALK ILL OF KRYSTAL. EXO-Ls still comment under past memebers instagrams many nasty things. And God forbid let's not forget about mentioning ChanBaek stans. They are everywhere demanding ChanBaek and shoving up to anyone's mouth and ChanBaek SNDS fans HOLY ! Can't even mention how immature that fandom was and sometimes is without having the fear of walking outside and being attacked. The far now iconic one "STAN MONSTA-X" and "PLEASE HELP US HAVE A WIN" but once someone comment under their videos "x fandom here to support these guys" they go all the way to "GO AWAY WE DON'T NEED YOU". Twice fans Jesus Christ! The list is long. Are we going to ignore that Mamamoo did black face? Isn't that racists?
And you know what? I really dislike people like you. Those ones who claim being in the Kpop scene for years and jump into random bandwagons. If you are a Kpop fan for as many years as you claim then, why don't you know that this is repetitive? I've been years into this and trust me it gets old. I'm really sick of people complaining about mindless bull that ALL of the fandoms do. Just to say it shortly, if you've been here in the Kpop scene for 7 years, you're a hypocrite. Because my God, there are far more of you complaining and hating ARMYs than ARMYs hating and complaining about you. Also to all of the others hating on fandoms for their bad apple's then I suggest you look into your fandom because there's no such thing that Kpop groups fandom are full of saints. News flash for if you haven't gotten it: IT WILL KEEP HAPPENING as long as Kpop evolves and becomes more international it's inevitable.

I get it, it's okay to fantasize someone, it's okay to be obsessed with them, it's okay to fangirl about them........... but there needs to be some limits. Like seriously. I know that if I met Luhan in person, I would lose my okay. But I don't let it come in the way of me talking and making a conversation like a healthy human being. (Luhan is actually a joke in my family by now....)
I............... agree though. I......... dislike ARMYs. And I have got some hate over that too of course.... but I MEAN COME ON. I'M IN GROUPS THAT ARE MEANT FOR EXO SPECIFICALLY AND ALL THEY TALK ABOUT IS BTS I SWEAR I AM GOING CRAZY.

yeah i get you completely, SOME ARMYs have just been immature and honestly straight up ugly in their personalities especially when i see tweets about how they put down older groups saying how its BTS' time now and older generations are entirely irrelevant although they were the ones who paved the path for the current generation to succeed, also how some think BTS are the only artists who make songs that are relevant and about society when clearly, they most definitely are not and specifically this weird issue they have with EXO-Ls too, i acc saw a post a few days ago from an immautre ARMY who said BTS are the only group that care for their fans (completely untrue yes) so while they (rightly) got a lot of backlash for their inconsiderate and untrue words, they later apologised and stated they ONLY MEANT TO "SHADE EXO-LS" which i simply dont understand. EXO have been nothing but nice and perfect and acc angels to their fans and everyone and so have BTS ofc, i adore the BTS boys to death but i just dont get the attitude of the proportion of ARMYs that seem to lack the capability to respect other or show humanity and for some, although every fandom does have its particular bad apples, ARMYs seem to have a higher amount than normal (which might be due to the abundance of younger aged fans) :/

No matter how much a comment online gets to me, I probably would not reply because my response would be very spontaneous, and that means it's not well-thought out and I may or may not regret it later. I'd probably go offline, think about it more, let it settle, and if I still feel the need to reply, I'd do so as politely and cordially as I can. I do suggest not getting involved in online fights or whatever, though, it just isn't worth it.
As for BTS, some users here mentioned that a 'loss of interest' is a better term to describe it rather than the word 'hate'. Personally, I've sort of drifted away from them because since 2016, I couldn't bring myself to like their musical content. Nonetheless, there are still some old tracks of theirs I enjoy.

I understand you. While a good friend of mine (in RL) is an ARMY she also says it's a little energy draining cause there are so many who're immature and go overboard a lot. In my case I avoid BTS (I have some songs I like to listen to but else I do not bother with them in any way) due to the fandom's attitude. Funny thing, the same was back in 2011/2012 with EXO. I couldn't for the life of it stand EXO fans cause they were everywhere. I mean, I don't mind it in general; I'm a Cassie and therefore shouldn't judge. But it's disrespecting to anyone else when you listen to a Kpop group and there are comments about BTS: "how BTS'... sings it better", "how BTS dances/raps/sings better". I like a fair share of groups and while DBSK/JYJ will be forever my ultimate group I don't go around saying such stuff. It cast a negative light on the group who's nothing but hardworking. And the result is others avoiding the group due to immature fans. It's sad and shouldn't be happening but now that KPOP becomes more and more popular those issues will arise more and more. And while shouting may have not been the most diplomatic thing it's okay. You're only human and everybody gets fed up. It's tricky especially when the other person is maybe knew and has no knowledge whatsoever but one can't see through a profile to know who sits behind it. I would still apologise for shouting but not for the content specifically

@Jstarfully I highkey agree with your POV. I mean, we can't stop the new fans from enjoying an inside joke but it is somewhat tiring for us who've been in the fandom for a while. But the whole plagiarism accusation is getting way too old. The only time something legitimately fit the description of plagiarism was addressed, apologized for and solved, which was a long time ago when Rap Mon used a quote from a fan letter. Fans should realize that if something is plagiarized the original artist WILL address the issue and it's not up to us to play parents.

We're in the same boat and I still have bts songs in my playlist but that just it. They're actually very interesting act and I had to toned down my interest on them more than fingers could count. These days, I had to stop myself from even reading their news in the internet coz you know, there's where malicious comments appear. Yeah you can say that not all Army are like that but who can you blame when majority are? Sometimes I even wish I wasn't part of Kpop fandom (Sorry Suju & RV) I remember when fandom were way cooler back in 2nd gen. Anyway, there's no advice. Just sharing my concern cuz I myself dealing with the same thing.

Some ARMYs can get so annoying sometimes, believe me we all know, but maybe you shouldn't judge them all like that. Not all the fans are as annoying as the ones on the internet, I actually have and know a lot of people who are ARMYs and are honestly really chill. That going, maybe shouting at that fan was a little too much, it might have been their first time seeing other fans, maybe they're a new fan and don't know how to behave. What I'm basically saying is don't let it get to you to the point where you are now, hating every ARMY and assuming they're all like that, because they're not.

I mean it is quite annoying and I try to distance myself from those people too but I don't think any of us should say that there are some of them or maybe a majoritythat behaves like this. Don't forget there are Bts fans that don't behave liek this and maybe even feel ashamed to have fellow Armys like those. Especially people that are multi fandom. It's sad that you can't enjoy Bts because of this anymore.
But I also think you shouldn't apologise, some people just need to hear a few words. Just don't think every Army is like this

Justified.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so don't feel guilty. This is the internet we're talking about. Don't get too sensitive to the fact that it could be a fragile immature obsessed teen. And if it is, leave it be. You said all you needed to say. You can never win with someone like that. I've done the same with an avid #Gun (Idk if you watched No.Mercy)/Song Mino/iKon fan and I made myself a valid point and I don't even care. It's not like you're gonna meet them in person.

I think you're action was justified, depending on how far they went however i do not think that your biased opinion is. I'm really sorry you had to see all of that but i'm also a little hurt that you think of all armys like that ;-; I know we have a lot of annoying fans and I know theyre really stressful to deal with but how hard do you think we have it? We have to deal with those people in the same fandom as us and the negative comments thrown at us... ;-;

it’s become like a trend to hate on the bts fandom, which is upsetting to hear. and even these days, more and more fans of bts aren’t calling themselves army because of the hate.
for obvious reasons armys are the most hated fandom to date, but to distance oneself from talented, hardworking artists who haven’t done anything wrong to you personally, is unsettling.
you can dislike the fandom; there’s no one stopping you from doing that. and you don’t have to like the artist’s music because it’s not for everyone.
but saying you stopped hearing them, implies to me that you enjoyed their music before the whole fiasco with incoming new bts fans and i think maybe you’d want to give bts another chance?
step away from the fandom if you have to, like other people are advising you to. surround yourself with other mature fans who don’t step into pointless arguments and fights with other immature fans. and just simply enjoy the music for what it is.

I agree with most of the stuff you said, it seems like most of the new fans don't get that the fandom 'in-jokes' that they use went out of fashion way before they even started using them.
However, I must say that your plagiarism accusation is honestly misinformed. Had any of the plagiarism accusations had grounds I'd assure you YG (since most people say it's Big Bang they plagiarised I'm using YG) would be in court quicker than you could shout plagiarism. The reason they're not is that it'd never hold up in court. You should educate yourself on what plagiarism is before you say it as if it's fact.

Advice-- Move on and write your essay. Fans are diehard. They will always be diehard especially ARMY since BTS hit it big on Billboard and found great success. Let them enjoy that success and move on to enjoy the music. You know the scene well since you are a great listener of K-pop. Members join the military, get married and some bands are disbanded. The Kpop world moves fast and this is why ARMY clutches on to their idols-- ARMY wants to live that moment before it fades away quickly.
